Chapter 65: Chapter 65: Eddie Call!

Ending the call, I looked up to see Hannah glancing at me curiously. Flashing a polite smile, I gave her a quick excuse.

"My mom wants me home, so I need to get going."

"Oh... okay."

Her voice practically oozed disappointment, but I didn’t let it stop me. With a short nod, I turned and walked away, heading toward my house.

To avoid any further awkward encounters, I immediately blocked her number.

’Clingy girls are such a hassle.’

I had given every possible hint to show I wasn’t interested—short responses, obvious disinterest—but she had clung to me like an overeager puppy.

Relieved to finally be free of her, I decided to skip my workout and head straight home.

The rest of the day passed without incident.

Just as I was about to log into the game, my phone rang again.

’Who the hell keeps calling me?’

I hadn’t been much of a social butterfly. Aside from a few acquaintances, I’d always kept to myself. But ever since my transformation, it felt like my phone wouldn’t stop buzzing.

Expecting it to be another spam call, I almost ignored it. But when I checked the screen, I saw my university’s name.

"Hello?"

[Is this Alex?]

"Yes, speaking."

[Hello, this is the university administration office. We’re reaching out to inform you that your leave has officially ended.]

"Okay."

[If you don’t re-enroll this semester, your status will be revoked. Would you like to proceed with re-enrollment?]

"Yes, I plan to return this semester."

[Understood. Thank you.]

After hanging up, I checked the calendar. The enrollment period started next week.

’I guess I’ll have to stop by College.’

For now, though, I set the phone aside and headed back to the capsule. Just as I opened the lid, the phone rang again.

"Ugh... seriously?"

Suppressing a sigh, I trudged back to the desk and answered.

"Hello?"

[Hey, Alex! Get dressed and come out, man!]

"What now?"

[I’m in Rivertown right now. There’s a festival happening tonight—live music, fireworks, the works!]

"What kind of festival?"

[Not sure, but they’ve got celebrities coming. Let’s hit the crowd and pick up some girls!]

For a brief moment, curiosity flickered in my mind. With this face, how easy would it be to attract attention?

But memories of Hannah’s persistence killed the thought just as quickly.

"Nah, not interested."

[Come on, man! Don’t be a buzzkill—]

I hung up before he could finish.

’I’ve had enough clingy girls for one day.’

I began to returned to the capsule and prepared to dive back into the game—my real playground.

"Damn it, why were those girls such bitches last time? Come on, man. Let’s do it right this time!"

Eddie’s voice was practically begging through the phone, his desperation to drag me to the festival bleeding into every word.

But unlike him, I had bigger priorities. With my return to college right around the corner, I wanted to clear as much content in the game as possible before my schedule filled up.

"Not happening. Don’t call me again."

I hung up, tossed my phone onto the couch, and climbed back into the capsule. Just as I selected Fantasy Hero Chronicles and prepared to log in, the system’s alert rang out.

[Alert: Unauthorized entry detected in your home.]

"What? Someone’s in my house?!"

[For your safety, the game will force an emergency logout.]

The scenery around me faded to black as the system disconnected, and I ripped off the headset, ready to confront whoever dared to break into my apartment.

"Who the hell thinks it’s okay to break into someone’s house this early in the morning?"

Storming out of my room, fists clenched, I came to an abrupt halt when I saw the intruder.

"Ta-da!"

"Are you out of your damn mind, Eddie?"

Standing in my living room, looking entirely too pleased with himself, was none other than the guy who had been blowing up my phone just minutes ago.

"You weren’t answering, so I figured I’d come drag you out myself."

I tensed, worried for a split second that he might notice the changes in my appearance. But true to what the system had said, Eddie didn’t react at all. To him, this was how I’d always looked.

"I already told you—I’m not going. Get out."

"Not happening. If you won’t come willingly, I’ll just stay here until you change your mind."

Eddie grinned and flopped onto the floor, making himself at home. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

"You’re seriously pissing me off right now."

"What else are you going to do? Play games all day? Come on, man, you just got out of the army. You need to live a little."

"Exactly. I need to clear content while I still have free time. Now get out before I make you."

When words failed, I grabbed his legs and started dragging him toward the door.

"Whoa, whoa! Wait! Let’s talk about this!"

"You’re leaving. End of story."

Sensing my resolve, Eddie suddenly switched tactics, his voice turning conspiratorial.

"Alright, let me make you a deal. Put me down, and I’ll give you some information you might actually care about."

I paused, still holding his legs. Despite how much of a pain Eddie could be, he had connections and always seemed to have the latest gossip.

"Fine. Talk."

I dropped his legs and crossed my arms, waiting.

"You heard about the new transfer student in our department?"

"How would I know? I just got out."

Eddie smirked but quickly wiped it off his face when I grabbed his leg again.

"Okay, okay! Chill. Apparently, she’s drop-dead gorgeous. Like, model-level gorgeous."

"And you’re sure about this?"

"Even the girls were talking about how hot she is. You know that means something."

I mulled it over for a moment, curiosity piqued despite myself. Eddie wasn’t the type to exaggerate without reason.

"Alright, now get out."

Without giving him a chance to protest, I grabbed his leg and hauled him toward the door.

[A new female target has appeared for you to conquer.]

"Seriously, how hot does she have to be for Eddie to hype her up like that?"
