I can upgrade the shelter-Chapter 840 - 738
The land ships carrying researchers were not limited to just one. As the land ship carrying Peter and his group slowly descended onto the tarmac, two other land ships were also landing.
However, one of the other two land ships had a noticeably different design, appearing more streamlined, and without tracks for ground travel. It looked more like a spaceship than a land ship.
In fact, it was a spaceship. After removing the ground-traveling components of a land ship, the available space and payload were used to install a nuclear reactor and propulsion system, making it capable of atmospheric flight.
This was a spaceship Chen Xin rebuilt after previously creating a spacecraft for the aerospace department. However, this one was different from that spacefaring spacecraft, as it had the same engines and anti-gravity generators but was not modified for space travel and could only fly within the atmosphere.
Its size was only about two-thirds that of a typical land ship, and its internal structure was drastically different from that of a standard land ship.
The other land ships, whether warships or freighters, were not designed specifically for carrying people and placed no particular emphasis on interior comfort. They were designed for utility first, highlighting a sense of simplicity.
But this spaceship was different; it was closer to the concept of a business yacht.
Its interior mainly consisted of passenger cabins, with an emphasis on the comfort of its chambers. For this, Chen Xin even consulted a train manufacturing plant about the design experience of luxury train carriages and asked them to help design the interior decoration of the chambers, enhancing the living comfort of the entire spaceship.
This spaceship became a standard personnel transport ship, used to ferry important individuals, distinguishing it from other land ships like a truck from a business vehicle.
This time, Chen Xin came to the research base aboard this spaceship, accompanied by several relevant experts from home.
These experts were different from the researchers transported aboard land ships as if by conscription. Although those researchers had some abilities and reputation, compared to these towering figures in their respective fields, there was no doubt they lagged several levels in both capability and fame, naturally leading to significant disparities in treatment.
These experts could enjoy the service of this newly-made business yacht, while those ordinary researchers could only travel by land ship.
And after delivering Chen Xin and several domestic experts, this business yacht still needed to go to Lucia and Europe to pick up experts from their countries.
Compared to the ordinary researchers conscripted like soldiers, these experts clearly played a genuinely significant role in the entire Southern Celestial Gate Project.
After all, as Edison’s famous saying goes, genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration. Of course, without that one percent inspiration, all the perspiration in the world would just be perspiration!
In research projects, the multitude of researchers belong to that ninety-nine percent perspiration. While projects cannot be completed without them, breakthroughs are impossible without the experts representing that one percent inspiration.
"Hey, Peter, did you see that spaceship over there? The Flame Country sure treats their own well! That ship looks way more imposing than the one we’re on," said another researcher sharing the same cabin with Peter, shivering from the cold but still making small talk.
They saw the spaceship on the tarmac, noting its visibly grander and more beautiful appearance compared to their land ship, and the absence of a shuttle bus that would expose people to the cold.
This clearly made the researcher feel somewhat inequitable, expressing dissatisfaction with Flame Country’s differentiated treatment approach.
However, Peter shook his head and said to him, "The people getting off that spaceship are top experts in aviation, aerospace, materials, and other fields from Flame Country. Although I haven’t seen that young man before, you should know his name; he is Chen Xin, currently the most important multidisciplinary scientist in the Flame Country. He turned the whole situation in Europe around single-handedly. Even from Belgium, I’ve heard of his fame. How could someone of such stature have the same treatment as us?"
"So many experts of this level have come at once. What exactly are Flame Country and other nations up to?" The researcher was obviously puzzled.
When they were put onto the land ship, they knew nothing, only that countries were gathering relatively famous researchers and sending them here. They were supposedly here to participate in a major project, but weren’t told what exactly it was.
Peter clearly didn’t know either, but judging from everything seen, it didn’t take much thought to conclude that this must be something major.
The researchers sent by each country, although not as prominent as the true bigwigs, were at least still fairly well-known figures in their own countries. They were at least professors at fairly well-known universities before the disaster. Thus, while they didn’t enjoy the same treatment as the bigwigs, they could still enjoy reasonably good treatment at this base, at least better than what they had before coming here.
Because Peter and the researcher were together, they were assigned the same double room.
As the base was newly reactivated, the living environment mainly consisted of prefab houses. However, these prefab houses were clearly not temporary patches, with interior spaces equivalent to a business hotel before the disaster.
Two single beds, two desks, along with matching bath and heating facilities, made Peter quite satisfied.
Especially the heating facilities, which made Peter, who mostly relied on a traditional fireplace for warmth in Europe, truly appreciate the beauty of technology.
After putting down their luggage and each tidying up, they prepared to set out together to first familiarize themselves with the environment and then find someone to learn more about the situation, at least figuring out why so many people had been gathered here.
However, after leaving, they quickly ran into other people who had come over on the same land ship. Persuaded by them, they decided to act together and headed to the base canteen.
Evidently, no matter when, eating remains the foremost human need.
Especially after experiencing what they had on the land ship, they clearly had high expectations for the food treatment that the Flame Country could provide.
