I can upgrade the shelter-Chapter 84 - 83: Thanks to Xianya Xisha Ji for the reward of 100,000
Chapter 84: Chapter 83: Thanks to Xianya Xisha Ji for the reward of 100,000
In the bedroom, Chen Xin was leaning against the bed using CAD design software on his laptop to design the door of the shelter.
When upgrading the system items or the shelter, modifications can be made according to Chen Xin’s ideas, so Chen Xin decided to incorporate a bit of his own thinking into the design of the shelter door.
As the first gateway to resist external invasion and the most solid defense, the door of the shelter, in Chen Xin’s conception, is not just a door.
Back when the disaster was about to strike and the survival group was discussing how to build a doomsday shelter, many plans were proposed for this question.
The initial proposal came from the boss who made water purification equipment. He referenced the Federation’s strategy of converting abandoned missile silos into shelters and proposed buying an abandoned air raid shelter to convert into a small shelter where everyone could live together to form a small community.
In this plan, the shelter door was designed to meet the same protection shielding door standards as the state builds for civil defense projects, encased in more than three tons of reinforced concrete structure with steel plates, along with facilities like poison filtration and air purification.
Such a door structure, according to the standards, would be enough to withstand nuclear shock waves, biohazard weapons, and gas attacks during wartime, providing an unparalleled sense of security.
However, this plan was abandoned right from the proposal stage.
The reason being, Flame Country doesn’t sell abandoned civil defense facilities, especially not at such a critical moment when the doomsday is imminent.
So later on, everyone could only follow the construction plan proposed by Chen Xin, find a mountain ridge to dig a tunnel, and then bury specially customized container-style houses inside to build the shelter.
Of course, such a shelter isn’t as sturdy and reliable as an abandoned civil defense project, but considering everyone isn’t facing something as terrifying as nuclear war, this kind of shelter would suffice.
After all, what everyone mostly has to deal with is extreme cold and severe air pollution, which is much easier to cope with compared to nuclear radiation.
The door of the shelter thus changed to a door that everyone could purchase, three-defense doors, instead of the previously envisioned protective shielding doors.
Initially, Chen Xin didn’t have much thought about this either; the three-defense doors he installed are at least twenty centimeters thick, and if the two doors are deadlocked from the inside, it would be truly hard to break down with even a tank.
But now, with the system upgrade, Chen Xin thought he could still make his home’s door even sturdier and improve its defensiveness.
In Chen Xin’s conception, he would increase the current two three-defense doors to three and modify the corridor entering the shelter.
The first door would naturally be the outermost door of the shelter. Upon entry, there should be a purification room for cleaning and disinfecting personnel, vehicles, and equipment entering the shelter from the outside.
Although there isn’t something as deadly as nuclear radiation outside now, after knowing all chemical plants exploded, Chen Xin knew the air outside was no less deadly than a nuclear bomb detonating at the doorstep.
A purification room is absolutely necessary. Those toxic and hazardous substances now pervasive in the air might not be as lethal as nuclear radiation, but if accidentally contaminated, in this current era where medical conditions are far inferior to pre-doomsday times, the lethality might even surpass that of nuclear radiation.
Not to mention, if drenched in acid rain, given the current medical conditions, unless Chen Xin figured out a medical pod capable of repairing body tissue, one could be better off dead.
The current acid rain isn’t like pre-disaster times; before the disaster, it would at most turn the skin red and itchy, causing allergies or requiring treatment for lung disease.
But the acidity and alkalinity of current acid rain are much higher than pre-disaster times, and if drenched, it could truly corrode the skin.
After the purification room, Chen Xin plans to construct a preparation room.
The so-called preparation room is a place for preparing travel equipment.
Chen Xin intends to place the protective equipment that might be used for going out here and also move the garage up here.
In this way, one can be fully prepared here, depart from the preparation room with everything ready, and there’s no need to bring the protective gear inside the shelter.
This can free up some space in the currently cramped shelter and reduce the chance of harmful substances being brought inside the shelter.
Between the purification room and the preparation room, Chen Xin also plans to install an isolation door to block harmful substances from entering the shelter through the air, while also installing defense weapons between the preparation room and the purification room.
Chen Xin, although not intending to harm others, still needs the necessary precautions.
He’s not like official shelters with various defense facilities, nor does his outer door have the solidity of official shelters, so if someone manages to open the outer door, he needs a means of self-defense capable of harming the enemy.
The ideal way would, of course, be to create a laser corridor like in the "Biohazard" movie, where any intruder would die.
But this is just a thought for Chen Xin; actually creating such a thing isn’t impossible, just not practical.
Therefore, Chen Xin plans to set up a heavy machine gun directly facing the shelter door direction, to shoot immediately if any unidentified or enemy person enters, making it convenient and quick.
However, currently lacking a heavy machine gun, Chen Xin plans to use a modified crossbow to replace it.
In a sense, using a crossbow might even have more power and better effects than a heavy machine gun.
Even a modified repeating crossbow is lethal, with arrows that can be recycled and reused, making it efficient and environmentally friendly.
Thinking about this, Chen Xin’s design sketch was almost complete.
The first three-defense door serves as the main door; after entry is the purification room, connected to the preparation room by a short corridor, where two isolation doors are installed. In the corridor is a repeating heavy crossbow, ready to skewer any intruder.
And after passing through the two isolation doors and entering the preparation room, one still needs to go through another three-defense door to officially enter the corridor connecting the shelter.
The end of the corridor then is the final three-defense door.
With such protection, Chen Xin felt the safety of his shelter could be greatly improved.
Besides protection, Chen Xin also plans to move shortwave antennas and ventilation openings further inside the shelter to prevent enemies from cutting off his communication and throwing poison into the shelter through ventilation ducts.
Should he also modify the structure of the corridor? Make it a floor trap door to add another layer of defense?
Chen Xin considered this carefully, but ultimately abandoned the idea, not because it’s unfeasible, but unnecessary.
