I can upgrade the shelter-Chapter 747 - 645: Along the Journey
This is still Chen Xin’s first time aboard a Guardian Land Ship.
Previously, when returning from the Navy Port to the New Dome City, he took a Land Carrier, which was incomparable to the Guardian Ship in terms of living conditions and the vessel itself.
Of course, this is not to say that there is anything wrong with the Guardian Land Ship, but compared to the Carrier, which has living conditions and vast spaces akin to a moving city, the living space on the Guardian Ship is undoubtedly more cramped.
Especially when a team of Titans is also onboard.
"Academician Chen, do you want to check the combat data of these Titans?" In the helicopter hangar of the Guardian Ship, a maintenance technician followed closely beside Chen Xin, watching as he inspected these specially modified Titans.
Each of these specially modified Titans was personally crafted by Chen Xin, so he is naturally very familiar with these machines.
However, it is evident that although these Titans fully considered the pilots’ feedback during their manufacturing process, adjustments and modifications were still made during actual usage.
"Did you do the modifications and adjustments?" Chen Xin looked at the maintenance technician, inquiring, even though he had already confirmed this point.
"Yes, we made some adjustments based on the actual combat needs," the maintenance technician truthfully answered Chen Xin, though he seemed somewhat apprehensive, unsure if Chen Xin was upset about this matter.
After all, these specially modified Titans were all crafted by Chen Xin. He is a high-ranking top scientist in the country, while the maintenance technician was just a lowly mechanic with a rank equivalent to a junior non-commissioned officer, not a legendary warrant officer with a treatment comparable to a general.
Naturally, this caused the maintenance technician to lack confidence in front of Chen Xin.
If Chen Xin became angry or dissatisfied with their modifications to the Titans, the technician feared he would not be able to withstand the wrath of such a bigwig.
However, Chen Xin had no objections, and only asked in detail about the reasons for the modifications and the problems they encountered during the actual maintenance of these Titans.
After noting these issues in a notebook, Chen Xin left the hangar, leaving the maintenance technician to let out a long sigh of relief.
After leaving the hangar, an officer assigned by the military to ensure Chen Xin’s safety also caught up with him.
"Phew, I didn’t expect that I would become someone so high and mighty in others’ eyes, and talking to me makes them so anxious." Chen Xin smiled helplessly, venting to the officer.
This officer was a political officer, specifically reassigned by the military, meant to persuade and prevent Chen Xin from "acting out" if he had any "ideas."
Therefore, in response to Chen Xin’s venting, the political officer merely chuckled and said, "Academician Chen, if you were still considered under the standard where even civilian personnel had military ranks, you’d at least have the treatment of a general, and he’d have to address you as ’Chief.’ Being questioned by a ’Chief’ can naturally make one nervous!"
"Sigh, actually their modifications are quite insightful. I’d love to chat with them about it," said Chen Xin, shaking his head and sighing, "Seeing how stressed he was, I felt embarrassed to continue the conversation. I didn’t want to add to his pressure."
Hearing this, the political officer did not interrupt further, only smiling and offering a couple of comforting words to Chen Xin.
Changing the topic, Chen Xin asked seriously, "Where are we now? It feels like we’ve landed?"
"Yes, we have arrived in the Stalingrad area of Lucia, where we’ll make a short supply stop before proceeding to Europe." As Chen Xin’s accompanying adjutant, the political officer was naturally clear about their itinerary and answered promptly.
He did not forget to kindly ask Chen Xin, "Do you need to disembark and tour this city?"
"Ah, Stalingrad..." Chen Xin mused, as this is a historically significant city, but after hesitating for a moment, he shook his head and said, "Forget it. In this icy and snowy weather, there wouldn’t be much to see even if I got off."
"Alright, then please stay on the ship and refrain from wandering around. We haven’t notified the Lucians of your itinerary to avoid any unnecessary trouble, so please inform me if you have any requests, and I will arrange it for you." The political officer said politely to Chen Xin, clearly intending to impose limitations to prevent him from running around.
Chen Xin didn’t feel that his personal freedom was being restricted, nor did he harbor resentment or rebelliousness. He merely laughed bitterly, "Don’t treat me like a child who does the opposite of what he’s asked. I’ll surely adhere to the safety protocols."
However, the political officer merely smiled at Chen Xin with an unwavering demeanor, unmoved by his words.
"Okay, okay, I understand. I’ll stay on the ship and won’t run around. But I remember this is supposed to be a major grain region in Lucia. During the supply stop, please check if there are any local specialty foods. I was really impressed by the sausages they provided in their Capital before, and I liked them a lot. If you can get some, please do." Faced with the officer’s imperturbable attitude, Chen Xin could only comply and jokingly made a small request.
To Chen Xin’s request, the political officer earnestly nodded, noted it down, and replied, "Rest assured, I will inquire with the Lucian personnel about this matter."
"Alright, then I’m off. I’ll go back now." Seeing the officer’s agreement, Chen Xin had no more requests and turned to head back to his cabin.
Although enjoying good treatment on this Guardian Land Ship, the cabin assigned to Chen Xin was the same as other cabins, except while others shared with four or six occupants, his had two beds, and he was the sole occupant.
Removing his coat and hanging it on a wall hook, Chen Xin washed his face in the cabin’s wash basin before lying on the bed to rest.
This journey was relatively more arduous than the previous one to Lucia’s Capital, as back then, he had a special train and enjoyed much better treatment. Even the comfort level of the Airbag Ark was superior to a military vessel.
After all, civilian transportation prioritizes comfort, while military vehicles focus more on operational performance.
Nonetheless, this didn’t matter to Chen Xin, as he was heading to Europe for serious business, not a vacation.
