I can expand my MAGIC ENDLESSLY?!-Chapter 14: The Past and the Conclusion
The door swung open, and the grand hall went silent. At the center of it all is the king of Velmor, Demrian Velmor!
With a commanding presence and an overflowing precise gaze, walking forward. Wearing a white robe regaling both elegance and ferocity.
Behind him was the sole crowning prince of the kingdom, Dorian Velmor. Unlike his father, he had a calm presence. He walked proudly. Behind them, from a little distance, were the Royal Knights.
White, broad, big armors covering every inch of their body with the symbol of the Velmor royal family, the claw of wolves.
The burden takers! That guards the west of the Hundred Thousand Mountains.
The king walked slowly, but none dared to question why. Everyone stood up, bowing down and showing respect.
The king reached the main stage. The knights were taking their positions while the prince just stood tall behind him.
"I welcome you all to my kingdom!" the king’s voice rang out.
"May this night be one of celebration and peace," raising a gold glass adorned with all kinds of red jewels.
Everyone raised their glasses as a response, upholding the celebration and the goodwill.
Everyone started congratulating him one by one. Mostly high-ranking generals of the front lines and the dukes of Velmor and Vlada’s kingdom, being Leia’s father, Theron Skylark, and from the Barling dukedom, Duke Alistair Barling, followed by Cartalia’s father and Duke Corvin Lorensia from Vlada’s empire.
Even with so many high-ranking guests gathered, Kairos’s gaze remained fixed on the table far ahead.
His heart felt some pain. He wanted to talk to her, but he knew he couldn’t; he’s just a puny baron, and she’s from another country, a guest of the king at that too.
And not to mention that douchebag is here too.
stood the 2nd prince of the Valdas Kingdom, Louis Veldas. His fair, charming face was framed by a bold sweep of blond hair, giving him an air of effortless nobility.
Kairos gazed at the prince, who was being lovey dozy with Cartalia. It seems even the duke had a good opinion about that bastard.
He could only sigh; if the duke Marcel could only know that the prince’s death will claim his own death too.
Past memories started to flash within his mind as he started to think more, he chuckled slowly, remembering the memories in remembrance. dragging him back to the very first moment Cartalia Lioree changed his messed-up life.
Year 807th Eclipse, Octavia, the Broken Axe Tavern, edge of the Valdas kingdom.
On a cold, snowy night, the door of the Broken Axe Tavern rattled under the wind, golden light spilling through its cracks.
Inside, people drank and laughed to their heart’s content, some even for the great sorrow burdening their shoulders.
At the corner of the tavern, the tray slammed down four or five mugs of beer, causing some of it to splatter.
The tray slammed down on the table, forcing the dozing man to sit upright with a groan. He blinked blearily, eyes slowly focusing on the figure before him.
tracing the bare, tanned skin of her stomach, then climbing upward, pausing at the curves bound tightly by leather straps.
After starting for a second with a hiccup. Realization sank on him. "Oh, it’s you, Lena."
The man spoke nearly before casting a glance at the beer. Reaching his hands out only to be stopped by her.
He tried to shake it off, but it prevailed. Then he looked up, peering through his long ruffled hair at her.
A yellow bandana was wrapped around her head along with a leather eye patch covering her left eye.
"Nice body. Shame about the face."
With that, the man dozed off again, his head dropping onto the table once again.
Lena’s teeth clenched. That was enough.
She seized a mug and slammed it down on his head.
"You shitty brat! Just get over with it! It’s already been so many days."
The man’s body shuddered from the impact before going still again. "Just leave me alone."
You..."
Lena’s grip loosened. She looked at him for a moment longer before leaving him just like that and starting to do her job serving the drinks.
The taller woman spoke softly. "Are you sure he’s the one, young miss? He looks ..."
The shorter one didn’t respond. Soon Lena arrived with their food, and only then did the shorter one speak.
"What happened to him?"
Lena paused. "He lost his comrades in a noble scheme. The nobles were dealt with days later before he ever got a chance at revenge."
She sighed. "He was well known here. Cheerful. Skilled. Since then... he’s been like this."
The shorter woman nodded and placed a few silver coins on the table.
"Keep the change."
She stood and sat across from Kairos. The taller one followed.
"Kairos, captain of the Wolf Squad," she said calmly. "Please hear my request."
_______
Kairos smiled faintly.
That’s how they met. And his lifeless world started having colors again. She had lost her father while trying to rebuild her family. I had lost everything and somehow found it again.
But then the colors faded within those memories, replaced by the cold corpse he had to carry.
Just thinking all about that, his heart felt immense pain. He looked forward and grabbed the glass across the table, emptying its contents in one go.
Gazing right back at the prince. If he had to reason why everything had gone wrong, it had to be because of one person. It was him.
His death caused everything. He died at the Loree estate, causing the king of Valdas to suspect Duke Mercel. Sending him on a dangerous mission caused him to be gravely injured, resulting in the fall of the Lioree estate.
And without the second prince, those that had supported him felt danger. As the first prince wouldn’t let them be. So they conspired and killed them too! And the remains of the Loree estate were stated as the cause of the death, stripping them of everything.
But eventually the culprit was found. But that’s when everything collapsed for him!. Somehow their group ended up escorting one of the culprits unknowingly.
The knights of Valdas didn’t spare them and killed them all!. Then the Velmor kingdom became greedy and waged war. At the bloody war he lost her. Then afterwards the Zarkan kingdom attacked from the past resentment and betrayal Velmor and Vlada’s family did.
Everything collapsed just like that. Just because of one clueless person’s death.
He knows even if the prince didn’t die. The war would have happened in one way or another, that’s the greed of nobles.
But still he couldn’t foresee the cause of him. Resulting in the hate he’s feeling right now. Even in the blinding hate, deep down, he also knew that. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
But now seeing him being so touchy with her. He felt like shoving a long-ass sword down through that mouth of his.
"Kairos"
The sound of Valeria speaking out his name caused him to turn around, with a little bit of annoyance.
But the moment he saw her face, surpassing anger was behind that beautiful smile. Kairos’s annoyance vanished, replaced by confusion. What did he do?
But he couldn’t find anything he did wrong. Maybe he was staring too long, and it’s rude? Or something.
"Kairos, when did you start drinking?" she spoke with a smile on her face.
Kairos furrowed. What did she mean? But the moment he looked at what he was holding, everything became clear.
"Mother, I can explain...
"Ow, it was your father who taught you that, right! Lucian, you promised you would never drink."
"Honey, I didn’t...
"Shut up, just wait when I return home...
The banquet continued long into the night, with high-ranking officials greeting the king and prince, trying to improve his standing among the subjects of the kingdom he will rule in the future.
By the time dawn broke, the hall finally began to empty, at least for those of lower standing.
The celebration itself would continue for two more days for the highest guests, but Kairos and his family chose to leave early, including many others of lower status like them. Lingering would only cause inconvenience.
Seated inside the carriage, Kairos stared out the window and let out a small sigh.
What else could he do? He couldn’t simply approach the daughter of a foreign duke at will.
He wasn’t even permitted to sit among the higher ranks. If he tried, he could have met somehow, but he didn’t want that; it would only attract attention, and he didn’t want that just yet.
Valeria watched her son quietly before beginning to speak her thoughts out.
"Kairos, it’s alright. You’ll be able to meet Leia again. It’s just that the engagement hasn’t been made public yet."
Kairos frowned, turning away.
"That’s not it," he said with a flat tone. "Who cares about her?"
Lucian finally spoke: "Didn’t you used to say you liked her very much?"
Kairos stiffened hearing that. That wasn’t him. That was the old Kairos.
"...That was in the past," he said after a pause.
"Just give it some time. And moreover, what you did last time... Thankfully, they didn’t think too much, nor did they want to do something," his mother spoke with a sigh of relief.
Their voices slowly faded as Kairos sank into his own thoughts.
The nobles seemed normal, laughing and exchanging pleasantries as if no tension existed at all, be they higher-ranking nobles or merchants.
That was strange.
The wars between kingdoms, Is something that doesn’t happen out of the blue just like this.without reason unless someone was pulling the strings.
Those involved with the prince’s death were killed right on the spot, including his squad members, leaving no chance for further interrogation.
Someone had made sure the truth died with them.
And the one who stood to gain the most from chaos between Velmor and Valdas.
It would be none other than the Zarkan kingdom.
