Chapter 229: Day 2 End

Like the skill Fireball, the Fire Claw was also another standard skill of fire-types.

Such skills, even if the beast doesn’t have it, they could still learn with the help of their masters.

The Red Sparrow’s claw, or talons immediately red. Its surface became hot as it sliced through the boulder as though it was slicing through tofu.

The boulder was divided into many pieces. The debris flew everywhere. It did not reach the audience’s seats, though. However, even if it did, the audience would not be afraid as the referee was there to supervise and prevent such a situation from happening.

After slicing through the boulder, the Red Sparrow executed the order given to it by it’s master.

It used [Wing Dive], tore through the air and immediately arrived in front of the Rock Golem.

In the process of diving down, Erika ordered the Red Sparrow at the right time and allowed it to accumulate the [Fire Claw].

The Rock Golem was prepared, though. It just raised one of its arms to block the incoming attack.

Half of it’s rock arm was torn apart as it staggered backwards for a few meters.

After it stabilized itself, it immediately throw a punch toward the Red Sparrow that came close due to it’s last attack.

Due to the different characteristics of the two, the battle went out for a minutes before the Red Sparrow defeated the Rock Golem after it rained it’s opponent with sharp and flaming feathers.

The [Fire Feather Rain] was a signature skill of the Red Sparrow’s.

Erika and her Red Sparrow had been training their control over this skill as it could be used as a strong trump card given the chance.

In the end, the Rock Golem was destroyed as though it was a smashed boulder.

At the same moment, the absolute shield of Plen trembled before it eventually collapsed even before it could exceed it’s time limit.

Plen could only summon his Rock Golem back to his own grimoire with a heavy and disappointed sigh.

He bowed to Erika before he nimbly went down the stage with a lazy expression on his face, accepting his defeat. He vowed to grow even stronger deep inside his heart.

His Rock Golem also did not die in the truest sense. It has a life preservation skill that was quite popular. This was also the reason why Erika dared to order the Red Sparrow to attack it without any reservation.

Erika smiled inwardly after defeating her opponent. Although it was not an easy battle, Erika herself was not serious yet, as she had still yet to summon her Innate Beast.

Meanwhile, right before she left the stage, her head subtly looked at the audience seats where the elders and important figures were located.

Upon seeing the familiar figure amongst the elders present, a smile appeared on her face as she finally walked towards her own seat.

Miguel noticed Erika’s actions could only nod his head.

Those who did not know would only guess that Erika was hinting at the elders to make a move and possibly support her. Such a thing was quite common in this competition.

After Erika retreated from the stage and after a minor clean-up, another pair immediately went up the stage to perform.

Getting in the top 10 was already an achievement that they can brag about for the rest of their life.

However, none of them wanted to give up the chance to enter the top 5 either.

Miguel scanned and looked at the fights attentively.

Although they could not compare to what he had seen from his previous life, Miguel was not conceited and knew that he could still learn something from the ’juniors’.

What he paid particular attention to was on how they execute their skills to maximize their efficiency.

As the participating summoners could only summon one beast per day, he also realized how most of them opted to summon their strongest summon in the first moment, unlike Erika, who had not summoned her Innate Beast yet.

Erika was indeed a genius of the Red Family. Her foundation was deep and she was much stronger compared to the other participants of her batch.

None of them could compare to her.

Like her, Victor Hall was also dominating the martial arts arena. Most of the time, he would only use one to two moves before defeating his opponent. It must be noted that his spearmanship had reached a very good level. At least, none of the martial artists in his batch was his match.

Time passed very swiftly.

After a few hours and an hour of break, the second day of the academy’s yearly competition finally came to an end.

In each stage, only five participants remained.

They were also called the mythical five of the others. The reputation they gained was quite immense.

Miguel even saw some of them getting approached by important figures after the completion of the second day concluded.

Those who managed to enter the mythical five were already considered a genius of their own right.

The people receded like a low tide. After seeing that it was no longer crowded, Miguel bid farewell to the elders around him politely before he hastily walked towards Maras Tavern.

Today was a special day for Miguel.

He specially requested for Maras to have someone cook him something special today.

Arriving at the Maras Tavern, Miguel could not help but notice that the customers here today was less than usual.

"Have you prepared it?" Miguel asked Maras as he and the two women sat side by side in the bar.

Maras nodded his head. His expression was still gloomy as he said, "Yes. The meat you wanted to get roasted has already been prepared and preserved in advance. Now that you’re already here, we can begin the roasting process."

Miguel replied with a simple nod. However, deep inside, his mouth was already watering at the thought of eating roasted once more.

And it was even roasted meat that was cooked by others.

After living countless years in the Immortal Cultivation World, Miguel was already aware of what kind of a cook he was. He was the kind of cook that could only cook a simple dish, and that simple dish would not even taste great.

As he suppressed his excitement, Miguel finally asked Maras why the tavern was quite deserted today.

"Well... According to what I heard, a valuable wild beast was seen north of Blazing City just earlier. One particular noble in Blazing City happened to see the beast and fell in love with it at first sight. Now, that noble wanted to contract that beast, hence, he issued a mission in the Mercenary Guild that whoever captured that beast for him, will be rewarded with 1,000 Gold Coins."

"With such a generous reward, there is no way the greedy mercenaries could ignore it. All of them became spirited and went to the north with great enthusiasm. Each of them hoped that they would be the one to catch that beast. By the way, the beast is suspected to be a Bronze Grade beast."

"Sigh. The twin is truly pitiful. I actually thought that they would gain a helper and buyer today out of pity to them, but this matter suddenly blew up, causing the focus of the mercenaries to shift towards it. The twin could only start from the bottom again and attempt to recruit openly."

As if the first sigh was not enough, Maras released yet another sigh before continuing, "Sigh. I even think that the two of them are already quite restless. I just hope that their mind won’t get clouded by greed and I hope that they won’t attempt to explore that passage on their own as a last resort."

Miguel nodded his head subtly at his words.

He could agree to his words about the twin as well.

However, what caught his attention was the matter in the north concerning that beast.

"For such a commotion to happen and a huge reward to be claimed, I wonder what kind of beast it was?" He asked curiously.

As the academy was quite isolated and was busy having their own matters, he naturally did not hear of such information until now.

In fact, not only him, even the other elders might be on the same boat as him this time around.

Maras paused for a moment before shaking his head, "I don’t know its name and exact form either. All I know is that it was a small creature, the size of a regular dog. It is extremely black in color and has spots of blue around it’s neck. Right, they also mentioned that it looked like an oversized mouse."

With such a little bit of information, it was indeed hard to imagine what kind of creature it was.

If they did not hire an artist to draw a sketch, Miguel imagined how chaotic it would be right now in the northern side of Blazing City.

He imagined the mercenaries flipping rocks, digging holes, climbing trees, searching for that particular beast.

When they find a tail, they would hasitly pursue it, thinking that it was that beast, only to find out at the last moment that it was just an ordinary cat.

Miguel laughed to himself as he thought of such a hilarious situation.

Putting this matter at the back of his head, Miguel’s eyes were drawn to the roasted meat that was now being served toward them.

His eyes sparkled in delight. The waiter finally put the food down and stated, "Roasted Golden Feather Duck. Please enjoy!"
