Chapter 221: Twin’s Situation

Contracting and awakening well-known beasts has their own pros and cons.

One of the advantages was that the summoner would no longer be a headless fly and can learn from the experience of others who contracted the same beast. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

Similarly, the disadvantage was that many would learn of the weakness of your beast, and it can be used against you.

The same case happened right now.

From the start, Gasper realized the beetle’s only weakness and took advantage of it.

He kept letting the Fire Wolf deal fire attacks to the beetle not to damage it’s thick exoskeleton, but to make its fragile wings catch fire.

Now that his plan has succeeded, Gasper did not waste the opportunity and immediately ordered his Fire Wolf to attack.

With its wings catching fire, the wing case which had previously protected the fragile wings kept on flapping, trying to put out the fire.

Unfortunately, it was to no avail. The fire persistently burned its wings as the Fire Wolf arrived to smash its paw towards it.

Bam!

The defenseless beetle staggered backward. The girl summoner had a look of horror on her face seeing the state of her summon. Just as she was about to surrender, she heard the referee’s announcement.

"Stop!"

The Fire Wolf stopped on its tracks before it was ordered by Gasper to come back.

It was forbidden to fatally injure your opponent in this competition. As most Freshmen only used their Innate Beast, it was also forbidden to kill the Innate Beast as it might take a while for it to revive. And such a long period could already be used to train and increase their strength. The academy doesn’t want the students to waste their precious time waiting for their Innate Beasts to revive right at the start of the school.

Gasper bowed respectfully before he left the stage.

The commotion only lasted for a little bit. The excitement of the crowd gradually shifted to the next participants.

Although Gasper’s performance was outstanding, it was gradually overshadowed by the next participants after him.

Miguel looked at the stages intently. He did not miss a single battle even when they happened simultaneously.

He noticed some promising lads but it was not worth mentioning considering what he had seen from his previous life.

A while later, Miguel saw Erika going into the stage once again. Her opponent was a girl. Miguel was familiar with her. She was the one who insulted Erika the moment they arrived in Blazing City.

Domen’s girlfriend, Tiara.

At this moment, though, Tiara no longer had the previous expression she once had when she confronted Erika.

From the looks of it, she was rather afraid of Erika.

Well, Erika’s reputation was not to be trifled either. It was not confusing why she was afraid.

As expected, Erika managed to defeat Tiara with a single attack.

None of the crowd thought that it was strange and they did not think that it was something amazing. After all, Erika was a genius while Tiara was not someone worth mentioning at all.

The battles after that proceeded as planned without any hindrance.

The top twenty was concluded before noon.

After a short break, everything continued as planned as well.

Erika and Gasper advanced to the next round without a hitch.

After the top 10 was announced, it was already nearing evening. Miguel, Aaliyah and Erika did not return to the villa directly. Instead, they went to the library once more to read some books.

If he was not required to be there, Miguel would have not come and would just prefer to read books and gain more knowledge.

After all, he had already more or less grasped the situation in Blazing City.

It won’t be for long before he set out to explore to increase his strength.

Aside from Blazing City, he wanted to increase his understanding in Blazing Expanse as well. He did not want to go out and possibly miss some natural treasures because of his ignorance.

At this moment, Miguel was merely focusing his time reading books about extraordinary materials and their uses. He still had not found every ingredient he knew to make powerful formations after all.

Aside from formations, he could also try to concoct some pills. But it was an occupation that also needed a lot of knowledge. He could create the skill, but Miguel was not in a hurry. After all, he still has not even made a powerful formation yet. If he focused his mind into another thing without settling this one, his heart would become troubled and he would become distracted.

As he read in the second floor of the Red Family’s library peacefully, the competition had made a buzz in Blazing City.

The winners garnered attention one after the other and were approached by the various forces. This was the precursor of their journey to become stronger. If they can find a powerful force to back them up, then they would be settled and would no longer be like headless flies searching for resources.

As the city buzzed in excitement to the emergence of new geniuses, none of them knew that the Dark Snake Assassin, from now on, no longer existed.

They grew in silence, and now, they were obliterated in silence.

...

In a large forest situated right behind the Red Family headquarters.

Domen could be seen panting heavily.

Beside him was a lion beast twice as large as a normal carriage that was always present in every street in Blazing City.

Like Domen, the Lion was also panting heavily, visibly exhausted.

Not far away from the two of them, was Grand Patriarch Zuko.

In front of him was a small monkey. The monkey was only as small as a human adult’s head.

However, it was this same small monkey that give Domen and his beast despair during the spar earlier.

"So, tell me. Is the little competition in the academy more interesting than having a spar with me?" Grand Patriarch Zuko stated with a calm smile.

"Alright. Break is over. We must enhance your stamina, endurance and energy to last longer in every battle."

Domen was not able to reply before his Lion was unknowingly lifted by the small monkey as though it was as light as paper.

...

After Miguel and the two finished reading some books in the library, they made their way to Maras Tavern to eat.

After hiring a carriage, they arrived at the tavern a few minutes later.

In the tavern, Miguel ordered their usual meal.

As Maras served them personally, Miguel could not help but notice that he was a little bit distracted and worry was plastered all over his old face.

"What’s the matter?" Miguel asked as he put the food inside his mouth.

Maras hesitated for a moment before he mustered his courage to speak.

"Well, it’s like this Elder Journey. I am just a little worried about the Twilight Sisters. They have been going around lately in mercenary circles. It seems that the two of them found an unexplored underground passage and they wanted to explore it thoroughly."

"For it, they post a notice and request in the Mercenary Guild, trying to convince others to accompany them to explore that underground passage."

Maras paused for a moment and released a sigh before he continued, "However, with their reputation, it would be a question if they could truly find a suitable partner."

"Sigh! If they ever find one, I am also afraid that they are not trustworthy and I’m afraid that they might betray the twin during a critical moment. Sigh! It’s a pity that I am no longer the same as before."

"If so, I would accompany the two of them myself," Maras lamented in regret.

Miguel thought for a moment and recalled the invitation of the twin. He did not think that they were that eager to explore that new passage as well.

Why were they that anxious?

This thought lingered in his mind but he could not arrive at any answer.

He pondered for a moment and looked at Maras, "I can see that you are very close to them and you are genuinely worried about them. Why not try to persuade them not to be hasty?"

"They can conceal the location first and just explore after they have made a thorough preparation. Only when they are confident should they go and explore," he suggested.

Maras thought for a moment before shaking his head.

"Knowing them, they would obviously not listen. In fact, there is a high chance that they would explore the location themselves if they did not find a suitable partner," he said with a helpless tone in his voice.

Hearing that, Miguel did not say anything anymore. He realized that even Maras, who were quite close to them, could not persuade them to go otherwise. He did not think that he had the capability to do so either unless he used force to stop them.

If they wished to explore the location, then let them be.
