I Can Contract Beauties-Chapter 218: Cowardly Liam
Two streaks of light appeared right beside Miguel. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
Aaliyah and Edith stood in each of his side and stared at the enemy in front of them, releasing their Golden King Aura as they pleased.
His rainbow-like grimoire materialized out of thin air in front of him as well.
As the two beasts in the shape of a woman appeared, Liam’s smile immediately disappeared.
’Fuck!’
He cursed inwardly.
It was only now that he recalled that Elder Journey was not a Martial Artist and was a very strong summoner with two suspected Gold Grade Beasts.
’Wait, Elder Journey is also a strong Martial Artist?’
The grip on his nape was not something a normal person could do.
’Fuck!’
The thoughts of escape were like a smoke dispersing inside his mind.
He suddenly recalled why he would always escape and not try to confront Elder Journey every time.
As the luster and hope on his eyes dimmed, the glow on the eyes of his snake, as well as the dark snake tattoos of the five members present dimmed.
The thoughts of revolt instilled to them by Liam was immediately suppressed. Their previous emotion of fear surfaced along with the dying hope of Liam.
His flailing feet settled as he finally gave up on struggling.
Even if he summoned his attack-type beasts, he knew that there was not a single chance to defeat Elder Journey when he only had two Gold Grade Beasts, how much more now that he learned he was also a strong Martial Artist.
Seeing that Liam had given up on escaping, Miguel relaxed his grip and casually asked, "May I ask who ordered my assasination the previous time?"
Hearing his question, Liam’s eyes narrowed as he recalled the first time they targeted Elder Journey.
It was when he just arrived at Blazing City more than a week ago.
After knowing that it was Elder Journey who made them fail their last major commission, most of the ’upper echelon’ of the Dark Snake Assassin group felt the need to take revenge.
As the strongest member aside from him, the Martial Artist and Crystal Summoner who contracted a Dark Veil Beast was naturally tasked to do the deed.
Famous in their circle for having fooled a Master Summoner’s senses once, none of them thought that he would fail in assassinating Elder Journey.
However, after that night, that particular Martial Artist never returned.
It was only when his snake mentioned that one of the marks was gone did he realize that the Martial Artists had already met his demise.
At that moment, everyone knew that they had encountered something troublesome.
"No one. It is our decision after we realized that you are the cause of failure of the recent major commission," Liam answered truthfully.
He had already given up on escaping and was not particularly resistant to being questioned.
Liam was also a cowardly person. Else, how could he stay alive until now and run a fairly large assassination group in Blazing City with his meager strength?
One must note that the true major powers in Blazing City possess the strength to oppose and contend with a Gold Grade Beast.
Liam was only at Elite and had a Silver Grade Grimoire yet he managed to run the assassin group and wreaked havoc in Blazing City without being caught.
If he was not cowardly and would escape at any danger he sensed, he would have long perished from the hands of the Red Family themselves.
Sensing that he was not lying, Miguel decided to drop him to the ground as he continued to ask questions.
He took a glance to the side and noticed that the five summoners had not moved a single muscle yet.
With his observation, he also saw their glowing dark snake tattoos earlier.
"Are they your member or are they your slave?"
Liam, who was now free from his grip, was taken aback by his action and upon hearing his question.
’Is he that confident that I won’t be able to escape? Should I take this chance?’
As the thought emerged in his mind, he suddenly saw the two terrifying summons beside Elder Journey. His thoughts was suppressed yet again as he nodded his head dejectedly.
"They are members, yet also my slaves. However, the degree of control I have towards them is limited. I can only influence their surface thoughts through the power of my snake, through the mark it has put on them."
Miguel looked over curiously. His guess earlier was indeed right.
"Do they have their own thoughts?" Miguel asked after seeing their individual expressions.
"Yes. At this moment, it’s very chaotic. This is the drawback of using the snake slave mark to them."
Miguel nodded his head. There was no lie in any of his words.
Liam and his snake’s ability were pretty strange.
The enslavement and how it works interest him a lot so he ask a few more questions regarding it.
It also reminded him of the methods of the mastermind who seemed to have the ability to control and influence others.
Although he did not know the specifics for now, Miguel knew that the skill of the mastermind was much more potent compared to Liam’s skill.
Liam’s skill can only be used during a short period of time.
In order for him to sense the slave mark, it must also be within a certain distance from him.
Aside from being able to influence the surface thoughts of those marked by his Innate Beasts, the slave mark basically had nothing more to offer.
The only redeeming factor was that those marked would be eternally loyal to him and would not betray him. Although some members may be overridden by their emotion and ignore his ’order’, it would only be at a surface level as well.
The mastermind on the other hand could still influence those they ’marked’ even from afar.
For example, Jonas and the other ’pawns’ that were secretly sent out to search for the treasure of Aaliyah.
Aside from ’controlling’ the mastermind seemed to have the ability to alter the memory of those they ’marked’ as well.
