I Can Contract Beauties-Chapter 184: Dark Veil Beast’s Promise
Miguel and Edith looked at the item curiously. At first, they thought that what she would forge first would either be a weapon or armor.
However, it seems that the two of them were completely wrong this time around.
In her hand was a black mask with a simple yet intriguing design.
It was a half-mask, much like what Edith and Aaliyah would wear if they were in public.
Miguel took the mask curiously and inspected it closely.
"Your lizard mask, though intimidating, doesn’t suit you. I think this one suits you better; it also pairs with ours," Aaliyah explained as Miguel wore the mask over his face.
"This is made out of the Volcanic Wyrm’s scales as the core material. The supplementary materials are made out of the melted scales of different demonic beasts that I found in the pile. I coated them on the surface of the scale to form the conveying lines around the eyes."
As Miguel wore it, an intriguing sight greeted the two women and the Dark Veil Beast.
With his upper face being covered by the mask, it created a scene that the two women had never seen before.
Their hearts quivered involuntarily as they looked at his handsome face, which had now been covered by the simple black mask.
The black mask was not able to hide his handsome face, especially his lips, and looked like a cherry available for plucking in the two maidens’ eyes.
"I like it," Miguel states with a subtle smile as he looks around with his raven black eyes.
Even though it was only a half-mask, it would still be hard for anyone to recognize and connect Journey to Miguel.
Either way, when he completed the skill, he would be able to carve a small concealing array on it as well to further boost its concealing ability.
And even without that, he still had his Innate Skill to rely on.
Aaliyah smiled in satisfaction, seeing that Miguel liked her work.
Although she doesn’t show it even in her previous life, blacksmithing has always been the one thing that she enjoys doing.
"I can’t be sure of its grade because I am not an appraiser, but I use a lot of materials of high grade for it; its grade should be at the peak of Silver Grade. Even with that, I am confident to say that it can withstand a few attacks head-on from a Gold Grade beast without a problem," she stated proudly.
Miguel nodded his head in understanding.
Appraisers were one of the jobs in this world, much like blacksmiths. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
They have specialized identification skills or vast knowledge in the field, allowing them to judge the grade of an item that was categorized into grades depending on their strength or capabilities.
According to what Miguel knew and to Edith and Aaliyah’s words, the categorization was fairly simple.
From Normal, Bronze, Silver, and then Gold. They would also be further divided into four sub grades which was Low, Intermediate, High and then Peak.
Determining an item’s grade was not that complicated either.
If they were made of Bronze grade materials, then the item would probably be of the same grade.
However, depending on the blacksmith and the other materials used, there was a chance that the grade would go down or up.
Hence, there was a need for specialized appraisers to accurately gauge an item’s real value and grade.
Miguel could tell with his Innate Skill that it was a decent item. However, due to his lack of knowledge regarding this aspect, he could not tell what grade the mask was.
In the end, he chose to believe in Aaliyah’s words about it being at its peak grade.
"I like it very much," Miguel stated, taking the mask off of his face.
He then turned to look at the Dark Veil Beast, to which the beast responded by looking away, pretending as though it did not see anything of significance.
In truth, Miguel actually deliberated whether to contract this beast right now. It had already seen a lot of their secrets, after all.
The Scorching Water Tortoise and Edith had obviously taken a liking to it, so he could no longer abandon it even if he wanted to.
He also knew how smart it was compared to other beasts of the same level and strength, so he was reluctant to kill it.
He was afraid that it would snitch on him to others, as it had seen a lot of things that they normally did not want the others to see.
Looking at the beast that was pretending to know nothing, Miguel could not help but think to himself.
If he contracted it, that would mean that it would only be summoned for a maximum of 2 hours per day from now on.
It would be a waste this way, as he would not be able to capitalize on its intelligence to train it quite early.
If it stayed as it is, it could be trained by Edith and him for the whole day and let it develop naturally.
However, the problem with this was the worry of betraying him when the opportunity came. Although it was not showing any signs of trying to betray them for now, Miguel did not want to risk it, as this beast was clearly intelligent enough to do so if it wanted.
After asking Edith and Aaliyah’s opinion about it, they decided to let it stay as it is for now.
However, they also decided that the Dark Veil Beast must not be allowed outside the basement unless it was already contracted by him.
They also instructed and even threatened the Dark Veil Beast not to escape. Aaliyah even expressed some alluring conditions for it, including the perks of being contracted by Miguel so that it would not betray them.
In the face of such strong gazes, the Dark Veil Beast could only nod its head repeatedly. It even raised its little hand in the air while nodding repeatedly, as though saying that it had promised not to do anything funny.
Miguel nodded his head as the trio made their way on the surface, leaving the Dark Veil Beast below the basement as it waved at them goodbye enthusiastically.
