I Become The Richest Man With A monthly Salary of Twenty Thousand Yuan-Chapter 706 - 489: These Types of People Are Everywhere_2
"Of course."
He picked up a pen and casually scrawled a few strokes in the bartender’s small notebook, leaving behind a beautiful signature. The bartender joyfully accepted the notebook before sliding two drinks over to Xia Liang.
"Master Xia, these are on me."
"Thank you."
After drinking for a bit, several more people spotted Xia Liang. They were also magic enthusiasts.
"Master Xia! It’s Master Xia!"
"Ah, the Master Xia who jumped off that building?"
"Yes, that’s him!"
A few of the bolder ones walked directly up to Xia Liang, their faces filled with admiration as they asked, "Master Xia, could you perform a few magic tricks for us?"
"Yes, yes, please perform for us!" the surrounding crowd chimed in.
Since it was a request from his fans, Xia Liang naturally wouldn’t refuse.
"Alright."
As news of Xia Liang’s presence spread through the bar, the dancing stopped. Everyone gathered around to watch. Some weren’t even his fans, but drawn by the love of a good spectacle, practically the entire bar had formed a circle around him.
Xia Liang walked to the center of the dance floor, and the DJ cooperatively switched to music suitable for a magic performance.
"Since everyone’s so enthusiastic, I’ll perform a trick for you all," Xia Liang said with a smile.
If he was going to perform, he had to make it impressive. Xia Liang chose the escape magic he had recently acquired.
"Does anyone here have a rope? Any kind will do. I need someone to tie my hands."
At his words, a stir went through the crowd as people started looking for a rope.
"Master Xia! Will a belt work?" An eager female fan forcibly unbuckled her boyfriend’s belt and handed it over.
"Uh, I’d rather not use that," Xia Liang firmly refused. Are you kidding me? Even if it were tied tight, there’s no way I’m using a belt a man has worn! It still has his body heat on it!
To make matters worse, the boyfriend, now beltless, was looking at him with an utterly pitiful expression, which gave Xia Liang goosebumps and made him even more reluctant.
"Does anyone else have a rope or something similar? A scarf would work too. I’m afraid if I use my own rope, you’ll say I’ve tampered with it," Xia Liang added with a laugh.
Everyone looked around, but no one moved. Most people don’t carry rope with them, and the women in the nightclub were dressed quite revealingly, with no scarves or silk handkerchiefs in sight.
Just as the situation was becoming awkward, a tall man stepped forward, holding out a pair of handcuffs. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
"Master Xia! Will handcuffs work? These are real, I guarantee they’re sturdy!"
Handcuffs? Why on earth would someone carry handcuffs? Does he have some kind of special fetish? S&M?
Clearly, everyone’s mind had gone to the same place. The entire crowd, including Xia Liang, eyed the man with a strange, subtle curiosity. The man was worldly enough to immediately understand their expressions.
"I’m a Protector, that’s why I have handcuffs," the man explained awkwardly.
A wave of understanding passed through the crowd. If he was a Protector, then it wasn’t strange at all.
"Handcuffs, huh? You really want to see my magic fail, don’t you?" Xia Liang said with a smile. After all, a rope could be undone with special techniques, but a real pair of handcuffs wasn’t something you could just wish away.
"Hehe, I know there’s nothing Master Xia can’t do!" the Protector said, looking at Xia Liang with pure adoration. He was clearly a die-hard fan.
Xia Liang was left speechless. Seriously? These are real handcuffs! Are you sure you’re not trying to sabotage your own idol? If he couldn’t perform actual magic, he’d be done for right here, humiliated in front of an officer.
Then again, if Xia Liang didn’t possess real magic, he wouldn’t have been so brazen as to ask the audience for props in the first place. It was common knowledge that props used in escape magic, like special handcuffs, were rigged with hidden release buttons. As for ropes, magicians typically had an accomplice tie a special knot that looked complex but was simple to undo.
"Then please, go ahead and cuff me," Xia Liang said, extending his hands with a confident smile.
The Protector walked up excitedly and personally snapped the handcuffs on Xia Liang’s wrists. This was the first time he had ever been so happy to put someone in shackles. He usually only cuffed criminals; cuffing his own idol was an unbelievable thought.
Once cuffed, Xia Liang raised his hands and displayed them to the crowd, showing everyone that he was truly locked.
"See clearly, everyone? They’re completely locked on." As he spoke, he tugged at them, trying to break free, but they held fast.
"These are handcuffs from Uncle Protector! They’re definitely not fake," the Protector chimed in from the side.
Hearing the officer’s informal remark, the crowd broke into laughter. Such a laid-back Uncle Protector was a rare sight.
"Now then, please watch carefully as the miracle happens..."
With those words, Xia Liang slowly lowered his hands. Then, with a gentle shake and a surge of Spiritual Power, the handcuffs instantly clicked open and fell to the floor.
"Wow, Master Xia is truly amazing!"
"Xia Liang, I love you!"
"Mwah, you’re the best, hubby!"
"Incredible! Master Xia is number one in the world!"
But as the praise rained down, a discordant voice cut through the noise.
"The principle behind this trick is so simple! I thought it was something special, but it seems this Magic Master is nothing more than this."
Everyone turned to see who had spoken. The man wore glasses and a white suit, looking clean-cut and gentlemanly. No one would have expected such caustic words from someone like him.
You really can’t judge a book by its cover. Looking at him, only one phrase came to Xia Liang’s mind—a scoundrel in scholar’s clothing.
Xia Liang wasn’t angry. Magic was always subject to skepticism. Some people didn’t enjoy the wonder; they purely enjoyed debunking it. This type of person prides themselves on seeing through everything, acting as if they know it all.
"So, sir, perhaps you could explain the principle behind my magic?" Xia Liang asked with a faint smile.
"It’s simple! That Protector is your shill! As for the handcuffs, they must be special Magic Props with a hidden mechanism!"
Hearing this, the Protector unhappily pulled out his badge and flashed it. "I’m a real Protector, so don’t spout nonsense. Watch your mouth, or I’ll sue you for defamation."
The man in glasses wasn’t intimidated. Defamation wasn’t a major crime in their country, and besides, he was already convinced the Protector was a plant.
"Who says a Protector can’t be a shill? You’re just putting on a good act," the man sneered, then turned his gaze back to Xia Liang. "Do you dare let me inspect those handcuffs?"
"Sure."
Xia Liang readily handed the handcuffs to the man.
The man in glasses froze. He hadn’t expected Xia Liang to be so straightforward and confident, and he began to wonder if he had guessed wrong. However, he quickly composed himself, steeling his belief in his own deduction. Besides, he had already made the accusation; he couldn’t just chicken out now.
He took the handcuffs and examined them from every angle, turning them over and over. He couldn’t find a single thing out of place. Disbelieving, he took the handcuffs and banged them hard against a nearby table.
"Hey! Inspect them all you want, but don’t break them!" the Protector shouted.
