I Become The Richest Man With A monthly Salary of Twenty Thousand Yuan-Chapter 646 - 458
They had gone through so much trouble to find Xia Liang; they couldn’t let him get away.
But before Professor Rico could move, Luodan suddenly grabbed him. Luodan’s expression had turned cautious.
"What’s wrong?" Professor Rico asked, puzzled.
This time, Luodan gestured with his chin toward the crowd that was stopping Xia Liang. "Those people seem to be here for Xia Liang," he said, his face grim, "and their hands..."
Professor Rico followed his gaze. Down in the street below, more and more figures were emerging from the surrounding area, and now, they were holding quite a few guns. If they went down now, it would be extremely dangerous. That was why Luodan, having just realized this, was holding him back.
Sensing that someone below might be looking up at them, Luodan pulled Professor Rico down into a crouch. Through the gaps in the balcony railing, however, the two could still clearly see what was happening below.
After exchanging a glance, Luodan immediately pulled out his phone to call the police.
From the looks of it, some illicit organization in Xiangjiang is targeting Xia Liang, and they mean business. This is a matter for the Security Bureau. After all, they hadn’t heard any other stories about Xia Liang. He could be in great danger this time.
Luodan had witnessed Xia Liang’s abilities and believed he possessed powers beyond scientific explanation. Even so, he didn’t think Xia Liang could survive amidst so many guns.
Therefore, they had to call the police immediately. Unfortunately, the moment Luodan pulled out his phone, he discovered there was no signal. Even the Wi-Fi was down.
Those people below must have tampered with it beforehand.
Luodan shared his discovery with Professor Rico. Listening to this, Professor Rico began scratching his head anxiously, looking extremely worried.
Have we just run into Xia Liang only for him to get into serious trouble? And we can only watch from the side, utterly helpless.
Sensing that something was wrong, the nearby shops had already closed their doors and windows. Only in a few of the surrounding low-rise residential buildings were there a few other gazes as perplexed as Luodan’s and Rico’s.
「At the same time.」
As several large trucks drove onto the street, other vehicles suddenly appeared on the opposite end, blocking the direction Xia Liang had come from. Now, even if he wanted to retreat, Xia Liang had no way out.
It was at this exact moment that Liao Yijie and his group, driving at full speed, finally caught up. Xia Liang’s truck had been moving slowly, so even though they had started much later, it was easy for them to catch up by driving at top speed.
Before they even reached the street, Liao Yijie, with the sharp instincts of the Xiangjiang Bureau Chief, sensed that something was wrong. From a distance, he could see that both ends of the street were blocked, and there were numerous figures inside. This was the hallmark of one of Xiangjiang’s underworld forces making a move.
Realizing this, Liao Yijie immediately called the Security Bureau, urging them to dispatch people quickly. Fortunately, their current location was not within range of the signal jammer. The nearest government office, however, was a long way away, so Liao Yijie worried they might not arrive in time.
After a moment’s thought, Liao Yijie drew his service pistol and slowly approached the street. Director Wu and his son followed closely behind him. From their relatively high vantage point, they had a clear view of the situation unfolding on the street.
Unaware that he was being watched by many eyes, Xia Liang sat in the truck’s passenger seat, a faint smile on his face as he looked at the people blocking his way. He, however, was already aware of who these people were.
They had come to avenge the chairman of the Tufeng Group. Although many of them weren’t certain that the chairman had truly died for insulting Xia Liang, they were sure his death was related to him. That was why they decided to make a move before he could flee Xiangjiang entirely. After all, someone had to take the fall for the death of the Tufeng Group’s chairman. And that scapegoat was Xia Liang.
In a way, these people were quite loyal, still seeking to avenge their boss after his death. But this was also understandable; after all, the Tufeng Group’s predecessor was a Xiangjiang triad.
Taking a deep breath, Xia Liang was about to get out of the truck to face them when he suddenly froze. He saw that the men had already raised their guns, aiming at the driver’s side of the cab.
It seemed they weren’t planning to waste any time. After confirming that both of Xia Liang’s escape routes were blocked, they were ready to act.
"It seems you really can’t forget your boss. Still thinking of going to see him, are you?" Xia Liang chuckled softly, reclining in his seat.
The next second.
RATATAT!
The sound of countless rifles and submachine guns erupted through the street. A hailstorm of bullets rained down on the cab of the large truck where Xia Liang was.
RATATAT.
Seeing the gunfire suddenly erupt in the middle of the street, Luodan and Professor Rico were frozen in shock. They hadn’t expected these people to open fire so directly, without exchanging a single word with Xia Liang in the truck.
Professor Rico almost cried out in alarm, but Luodan quickly clapped a hand over his mouth.
If the people below discover us spying, we probably won’t get out of here alive either.
Still, watching the truck’s cab continuously buckle and deform under the assault, Luodan clenched his fist. But then, he relaxed it, his brow furrowing as a thought occurred to him.
Xia Liang can clearly calculate what incidents he’ll encounter and whom he’ll meet. There’s no reason he couldn’t predict his own situation. So why would he still come here to court death instead of fleeing?
As he pondered this, Luodan’s eyes filled with even more doubt. But soon, he recalled a saying that had been passed down in the Dragon Country since ancient times: Life and death are decreed by fate, predestined by the heavens.
Could it be that Xia Liang knew this principle could not be changed? Is that why he could face his death so calmly? Because he simply cannot defy destiny.
The more Luodan thought about it, the more plausible it seemed. His estimation of Xia Liang rose even higher.
A person who knows they are walking into an ambush, who knows they won’t survive, and yet still faces death with such composure... there are few such people in this world.
As for Professor Rico beside him, he was beating his chest and stamping his feet in frustration. Looking at the men attacking Xia Liang below, he wanted to scream curses at them.
Because these people have no idea what impact killing this man will have on the world!
While Luodan and Rico were secretly observing from above, Liao Yijie and his two companions, watching the street from a distance, were also clenching their fists, their foreheads beaded with sweat. Because the street was situated in a low-lying area, they were able to watch the scene unfold from a safe distance. When the countless guns began to fire, they broke into a cold sweat for Xia Liang.
Although they had all heard that Xia Liang was indestructible and unkillable, a Living Immortal, and while Director Wu and Wu Jiasheng had even witnessed his abilities with their own eyes, those abilities didn’t include being immune to bullets. Thus, they were extremely nervous. They also knew that if they tried to help now, they would likely be riddled with bullets before they even got close.
「Meanwhile.」
Inside the truck, Xia Liang was using the objects along the street to perceive how many residents were in the nearby buildings. Through this, he also discovered the presence of Luodan and Rico.
And the presence of these two changed something in his mind.
I had originally planned to deal with these men from the Tufeng Group directly, without any sort of display. But now, I want to let those two foreigners see just how terrifying my power truly is. The five-thousand-year culture of the Dragon Country is not something foreigners like them could possibly comprehend.
But before that, he slowly began to divine the fated paths of the original residents on this street and modify them. He didn’t want these people to get into trouble because of him.
