"Can you really save my uncle?" 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
"No," Xia Liang said, glancing over indifferently before turning to walk away.
"Wait! Master Xia, I was wrong just now."
Admit my mistake? If apologies were so useful, what would we need the police for? Xia Liang sneered disdainfully, not slowing his pace for a moment.
THUD.
Just then, Fang Youxue fell to her knees behind him.
"Master Xia, I beg you, please save my uncle."
For a glimmer of hope, the treasured pearl of a conglomerate had actually knelt in public.
"Fine. I won’t do it myself, but I can tell you how to save him."
"If it’s Mister Xia, then Fang Tian’s condition might really improve."
Lin Yaoyang was also shocked. He knew how bizarre Fang Tian’s illness was; countless experts, both at home and abroad, had been unable to find the cause, and numerous treatments had proven completely ineffective. Yet, somehow, Xia Liang knew what to do.
Seeing their hopeful expressions, Xia Liang nodded. "What’s strange about Fang Tian’s illness is its cause. Once you know the cause, the treatment isn’t difficult," he said, then added, "Pen."
Lin Yaoyang quickly handed over the fountain pen from his pocket.
Xia Liang then gestured toward the back of Lin Yaoyang’s coat. Lin immediately understood, turning and squatting down to offer the fabric of his back as a canvas.
Under their puzzled gazes, Xia Liang slowly wrote five lines.
Lin Yaoyang took a photo of the writing and was stunned when he saw it clearly. The five lines designated five locations—specific areas within the brain.
"What does this mean?" Lin Yaoyang and Fang Youxue asked simultaneously.
"Operate directly on these five locations." Xia Liang didn’t explain further. Fang Youxue, who knew nothing about psychiatry or neurology, was utterly confused. Lin Yaoyang, however, understood instantly after a moment of thought.
"Are you saying that these five places in Fang Tian’s brain have lesions or tumors that are causing his mental illness?"
Xia Liang nodded.
"Then I’ll contact a neurology specialist for surgery right away!" Lin Yaoyang bowed to Xia Liang before turning to Fang Youxue, his voice filled with excitement. "Miss Fang, your uncle can be saved!"
With that, Lin Yaoyang immediately took out his phone and started dialing. Fang Tian’s condition was so peculiar that it had baffled experts worldwide. If Lin Yaoyang could solve it, his reputation would soar. Furthermore, the surgery would be performed in Dragon Country. When Fang Tian was being treated in America, the experts there had claimed, "A breakthrough for his condition is only possible in America. If he stays in Huaxia, a complete cure is absolutely out of the question."
In the field of psychiatric research, America was indeed far ahead of Huaxia. Now was the time to finally hold their heads high.
Seeing his part was done, Xia Liang prepared to leave, but Fang Youxue hurried over to him. Her cheeks were slightly flushed, her skin so delicate it looked as if a puff of air could break it.
"Th-thank you. If my uncle is truly cured, the Fang Family will be sure to reward you generously."
Although she hadn’t understood the details of the conversation between Xia Liang and Director Lin, she had gathered the most important part: Xia Liang seemed to know the root of her uncle’s illness and believed it could be cured.
"Alright," Xia Liang said, waving his hand dismissively. "I only did it on a whim."
"Okay, when the time comes, I’ll be sure to personally—Wait!" But before Fang Youxue could finish, Xia Liang was already gone.
「That night, at ten o’clock, outside a specialist operating room in Qingyun City First People’s Hospital.」
Lin Yaoyang and several of the nation’s most famous neurologists stood ready. In the distance, several foreign psychiatric and neurological experts watched on as well. They had rushed over on flights lasting more than ten hours after hearing that Dragon Country had found a way to treat Fang Tian. Most of them, however, didn’t believe Lin Yaoyang could actually cure Fang Tian. They had come merely to watch the show.
A man with a serious expression spoke to Lin Yaoyang. "Yaoyang, are you confident? We’ve meticulously scanned the locations you mentioned with CTs, but we found nothing. This is brain surgery. If anything goes wrong, our reputations will be ruined!" He gestured toward the American experts standing in the distance. "Who knows how long those people will mock us!"
"I am confident," Lin Yaoyang stated firmly. "Open the cranium. We are excising lesions at these five locations!"
Even as he said it, Lin Yaoyang’s heart trembled. Of course, he had immense faith in Xia Liang, but the thought of operating directly on the brain still made him nervous. If this went wrong, it could damage Dragon Country’s medical reputation on the world stage!
"But what connection do these five lesions have to Fang Tian’s psychological disorder? Any lesion that a CT scan can’t detect must be incredibly small. How could it possibly affect his nerves?"
"I’m not sure," Lin Yaoyang admitted, shaking his head. "But once we understand the connection, those Americans won’t dare to look down on us ever again!"
"But if it’s something even a CT scan can’t detect, Yaoyang, how did you find out?"
"I’ll explain after the surgery," Lin Yaoyang said seriously. If these old-timers found out he got his information from a fortune teller, they would refuse to perform the surgery even if he dropped dead on the spot.
"I say, Mister Lin, are you going to start or not?" one of the American experts called out from a distance. "It’s a mental illness even our country couldn’t treat. You people from Dragon Country should stop dreaming. Just casually claiming there are five lesions in the brain... you have quite the sense of humor, Mister Lin."
"The depth of our Huaxia culture is something your barbaric lands could never comprehend," Lin Yaoyang retorted. "We *can* cure Fang Tian’s illness. Begin the surgery!"
With a cold sneer, Lin Yaoyang wheeled Fang Tian into the operating room.
「Half an hour later.」
"We’ve found them! There really are lesions, exactly where you said they’d be!" an incredibly excited voice called out from the operating room.
"Continue the surgery!"
Although the five tumors inside Fang Tian’s brain were relatively small and simple to remove individually, their quantity meant the overall procedure took a considerable amount of time. The surgery began at ten o’clock at night and didn’t conclude until three the next morning. However, by the time it was over, all five tumors had been successfully removed from Fang Tian’s brain.
The moment Lin Yaoyang stepped out of the operating room, Fang Youxue rushed forward, surrounded by many other members of the Fang Family who had arrived overnight. "Director Lin, how is he? How is my uncle’s condition?"
"The surgery was a great success. All five tumors have been removed," Lin Yaoyang announced, raising his voice slightly, as if to ensure the American experts in the distance could hear. "Now, we just have to wait for him to wake up and see if his condition has improved."
Though he spoke cautiously, Lin Yaoyang was almost certain that with the tumors gone, Fang Tian was out of the woods. After all, Master Xia himself had pointed out those five locations. How could he be wrong?
"Miss Fang, you should get some rest. It will be a while before your uncle wakes up."
"No," Fang Youxue replied, shaking her head resolutely. "I’m waiting for him here."
On the other side, the American experts were briefly stunned by the successful surgery. "A successful operation doesn’t mean his psychological disorder is cured," one of them remarked before they all turned and left, still unconvinced that Fang Tian would improve.
Fang Tian was moved to the intensive care unit to await his awakening.
「The next morning.」
At ten o’clock, Fang Tian groggily opened his eyes, his head throbbing with a dull pain. He was taken aback to see a dozen people gathered around his hospital bed, and he struggled to understand what was happening.
His gaze, somewhat unfocused, landed on a tearful Fang Youxue standing beside him. "Xue’er? What happened? Why am I in a hospital room?" he asked, as if the last few years of his memory were a complete blank.
Upon hearing Fang Tian speak so lucidly, Director Lin and the other domestic psychiatric experts let out a collective sigh of relief.
