Chapter 60: Roxanna, Calm Down!

The shelter had been like a small heaven for people trying to survive the brutal snowstorm. If the only ones living there had been Roxanna and her husbands, they could have lived quite comfortably, maybe playing cards together and even growing plants with hydroponics.

[I know some of them would definitely argue,] Roxanna thought. [But at least none of them would cut off my fingers or sabotage all of my supplies!]

Calen clenched his teeth the moment he heard her words. He already knew about the cruel things her ex-husband had done to her, but hearing them still made his chest burn.

Every time he thought about how this gentle, kind Roxanna had suffered so much, anger inevitably surged in his chest. If he could step into her old world, the first thing he would do would be to hunt down her ex-husband, skin him alive, and throw him to a pack of hungry dogs.

"I wish the same thing too," said Calen softly.

Without realizing it, he took Roxanna’s hand and held it tight. His thumb brushed over her fingers one by one, as if he were trying to cherish every part of the hand that had once been hurt so badly by her bastard ex-husband.

He didn’t understand what fingerprints were or why her ex-husband had wanted her fingers gone so badly. But one thing was clear: her ex-husband was a monster, and Calen would never let Roxanna suffer again.

Roxanna, on the other hand, didn’t understand why Calen suddenly kept touching her fingers and her palm. It felt strange, but at the same time, it was comforting.

The warmth flowing from his hand felt even warmer than the heat radiating from the campfire.

[His hands are so big...] Roxanna felt her face heat up. Her cheeks were burning red, and her thoughts started drifting somewhere dangerous, or rather, thoughts that shouldn’t be spoken out loud.

[I’ve seen his little brother before, and... he’s also quite big down there.] Roxanna wanted to smack her own head for thinking about something so inappropriate. [Wake up, Roxanna! Stop thinking about bad things like that! You have to be a good girl!]

But the system had told her before that having thoughts like this wasn’t dirty. Mating wasn’t just about sex, after all. So thinking about these things didn’t make her a bad person... right?

While Roxanna was struggling to let go of the old rules she used to believe in, Calen suddenly tightened his grip on her hand. He said, "Your hands are so small."

What kind of romance novel line was that?!

Every time Roxanna read that kind of line in a book, she would cringe. But now that she heard it in real life, she didn’t know how she was supposed to react.

Was it cringe? Yes, absolutely. But just a moment ago, she had made the same comment about his hands, and suddenly, she wanted to do something that characters in situations like this usually did.

She loosened her grip and pressed her palm against his. "That’s because your hands are bigger than mine."

To her surprise, Calen slid his fingers between hers and held her hand again. "But that means I can hold you easily. Among the others... whose hands are the biggest?"

He asked eagerly, his ears even perking up as he waited for her answer.

"That’s... not important," Roxanna said after a moment, trying not to sound biased. "As long as all of you hold my hand gently, I’ll be happy."

[At least, they want to hold my hand,] Roxanna thought. [Back then, my ex-husband hated holding hands for long. He said I was too needy. What if Calen thinks the same? Should I let go now?]

There was no way Calen would allow that to happen. Before Roxanna could pull her hand away, he pulled her closer to his side, making her face almost slam into his broad chest if she hadn’t stopped herself by placing her other hand against it.

"Roxanna... I’m still feeling sad about what happened earlier," he said softly. His gaze softened, making her heart flutter. "I think I’ll feel better if you keep holding my hand. Can you... do that for me?"

[Oh... so Calen doesn’t think holding hands is a bad thing?] Roxanna’s eyes lit up when she heard his request. Her fox tail even swayed left and right, excited that she could hold her husband’s hand for a long time.

"If you don’t mind," she replied in a small voice, "I can hold you longer."

She slowly shifted until she was sitting right beside him. Roxanna still hugged her knees to her chest, while Calen didn’t seem to care about feeling embarrassed at all.

He sat with one leg bent upward, the other folded underneath him. He looked completely relaxed, and his fluffy tail wouldn’t stop swaying, brushing against Roxanna’s back again and again.

The softness of his tail made her feel as if he were deliberately touching her back repeatedly.

Whenever Roxanna glanced out of the corner of her eyes, she could see something big between his legs, and for some reason, it made her lower body throb a few times.

Was this mating season or something? Animals went into heat, right? There was no way she was this needy.

[Oh, Host, anyone who sits beside their spouse without a single piece of clothing on would definitely get aroused.] The system chimed in.

Yeah, absolutely, but there was no way she was this needy!

She was so thirsty for him that she couldn’t help staring at his muscles, and sometimes she even had to clench her hole because it kept throbbing.

She was basically in heat!

Roxanna pressed her lips together, trying to calm her breathing. This was ridiculous. She had faced danger, hunger, and death before, so why was this making her lose control?

She stole another glance at Calen, then quickly looked away, her ears burning.

[Calm down... calm down...] she told herself.

But it was impossible for her to CALM DOWN!
