I Became the Moon Goddess' Apostle in a Dark Fantasy-Chapter 47: Rowan
Before we start this Chapter, I want to clarify that I myself have no experience with horses or horse riding. I researched it, and it was surprisingly a very fun task to do.
Here goes my attempt at it.
=x=x=x=
Fweet!
He whistled, looking at the absolute beauties the horse breeder was pointing at.
The horses weren’t the tallest around here, but they had toned, athletic muscles, with well-built hindquarters.
They shone in the bright sunlight; their clean, brushed hair showed him how much the farm owner loved his horses.
This was fantastic.
A well-cared-for horse from a great horse breeder.
"May I?" He asked for permission to approach them.
To which the owner nodded immediately.
"You can even take it for a test ride, if you want," His chest was puffed up from the pride he took in his business. "My ranch is quite massive."
He approached a brown, well-behaved horse and patted it, "I can’t let these suffocate in a cramped space."
He went inside the stable, took out a premium leather saddle, and placed it on top.
Frankly, only the original Raven had any experience riding horses, but he did have all those memories.
He climbed onto the horse with the help of the stirrup, and the farm owner understood something.
This person was still an amateur.
"You might want to change horses, dear customer," He spoke as politely as possible, "That horse isn’t the most beginner-friendly."
Ah!
Raven was embarrassed, but he couldn’t even retort.
He was absolutely right about that fact.
He climbed back off, and the owner pointed to a lustrous reddish-brown horse sitting calmly.
"That one is the most forgiving of these all," He guided him to the horse and got it to its feet.
"Thank you for the help," Raven nodded, as he climbed it shakily.
He gently squeezed it with his calves, and it started walking.
Wooo!
He blew out air in excitement.
This was his first experience riding a horse, and it was really exhilarating.
The feeling of the open fresh air hitting his face was really liberating.
He let go of the left rein slightly, and it turned.
Quite obedient.
He liked it.
As they turned left, he was in the open ranch.
And he wanted to slowly gain speed.
He squeezed his calves a little tighter, and it got faster.
He made sure to keep steady rein contact, as he remembered from his memory.
Wow!
His pupils dilated in happiness.
Now, he wanted to get this beauty to fly.
Trained horses like these often had verbal or audible cues for these types of things.
But he forgot to ask, so he turned around, and as he got close enough, he shouted,
"How do I get this boy to fly?"
"A series of finger snaps, with an ascending rate of this." He shouted back.
Raven gave him a thumbs-up and turned around again.
He slowly squeezed up the calves, and the horse got faster.
Snap!
The audible cue.
Snap! Snap!
It got faster.
He squeezed a bit more, and,
Snap! Snap!
As he kept increasing the rate of these actions, the horse got faster, and in a few seconds, it got to a ridiculous speed.
The fast wind messed up his hair, and his clothes were clinging to his body.
But he didn’t care.
Woohoo!
He was having the time of his life.
This was it.
This was what it was all about.
The ranch had ample space, and he wanted to just ride it to the horizon.
But he had time constraints.
He slowed it down with a descending rate of snaps and turned it around.
Then, he made it fly again.
He just couldn’t help himself.
After that, he sat deeper on the saddle and stopped all the cues as it got slower.
He closed his fingers around the reins gently and slowly let all the pressure go.
The horse went from galloping to trotting, then to walking, and finally it stopped in front of the owner.
This horse really was very forgiving and easy to control.
As if it had intelligence, and it knew what he wanted.
"Does he have a name for himself?" His eyes had a light of excitement he hadn’t experienced in quite a while. "I want to have this one for myself."
"Haha!" The farm owner chuckled heartily, taking pride in the young man’s elation, "This one here is called Rowan, and he is going for 290 Sols."
"And what about the other two, good Coursers?"
"Those two would cost you 270 Sols each. This one is a bit more expensive, exactly because it is easy to work with."
’That’s quite cheap.’ He thought.
He had arrived here with around 2000 Sols, just in case.
Ridiculous.
But in reality, it wasn’t cheap at all.
A well-off, middle-class family of four in the Holy State would only need 120 to 150 Sols per year to live comfortably, and even end up with minor savings.
And this was almost 6 times over the annual amount a middle-class family needed.
It was an amount that most of the population wouldn’t even see this kind of money in their life.
But it wasn’t the case for Raven.
Raven remembered the conversation he had with the rich people he had met and asked them for a price on these horses.
And the average they said about the best of the Coursers was around 250 to 400.
So these prices were pretty reasonable.
An honest businessman indeed.
He got off the horse and moved his hand forward.
"I will take all three for 800 Sols, right this moment."
He placed his offer.
Despite being so disgustingly rich, his soul as a Korean couldn’t let go of the haggling.
The farm owner thought for a while.
His raised hand was waiting patiently.
If this offer failed, he wouldn’t even mind paying the full price.
But that was for after this offer got rejected.
Clasp!
And the farm owner shook his hand with a firm handshake.
"You got yourself a deal, Mr.?"
"Raven," He replied, subconsciously not mentioning his surname, "Call me Raven."
"Follow me to sign the deeds, Mr. Raven."
Raven followed, and in a few minutes, everything was done.
He took out his pouch, and took out his pouch hanging from his axe’s handle.
’1, 2, 3... 8.’ He counted 8 coins in the pocket and took them out.
The farm owner’s eyes widened.
He was expecting him to take out a handful of Merchant Sols to pay for this.
But he took out just 8 coins.
8 Aristocrat Sol coins.
1 of them was equivalent to 100 Sols.
He checked them for their authenticity, and they were as real as they came.
"I will ride my horse back to my inn, I am staying at," Raven, not minding the looks he was getting, and continued, "Please help me get the other two with me."
