I became the God Brother of the Regent King after Transmigration!-Chapter 107 - 81: Quarrel, Part 2
The robust soldier clutched a white steamed bun in his hand and said dismissively, "With your bottom-of-the-barrel training results, you didn’t even make it through the training field this morning, yet you think you deserve a bun?" 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
He glanced at Rong Heng beside him, his voice turning even more sarcastic:
"Why do you give your bun to this irrelevant criminal? You deserve to go hungry. This bun is better off fed to dogs than given to you!"
Saying this, the robust soldier took a vicious bite out of the bun.
Gu Lan: ...Why does he have to insult me as a dog.
"Fifth Young Master Rong is not a criminal! Chen Da, you’re going too far!"
"He’s not? Then why don’t you call him the Fifth Prince and instead call him Fifth Young Master Rong?"
"You—"
"The Xiao Family Army is gone because the criminal plotted a rebellion! The Xiao family, Fifth Prince Rong, are all shames of Dayan."
It turned out that the short soldier was once a member of the Xiao Family Army, and because he remembered old feelings, he shared his bun with Rong Heng, which led to being bullied by his colleague Chen Da when trying to take a second bun.
Upon hearing Chen Da’s words, Rong Heng’s black eyes remained cold and unaffected, as if accustomed to such things.
"Scram, you scum!" The short soldier could no longer restrain himself, and, furious, punched Chen Da in the face.
Though small, he was nimble. The unexpected punch was fierce, directly swelling half of Chen Da’s face.
Chen Da stood up, intending to retaliate, but suddenly noticed the Prince and others in the distance.
He rolled his eyes and quickly said, "Prince, you saw it, Zhang San hit me first! He didn’t even pass the training field this morning; I apply for him to do it again!"
After Zhang San hit him, he turned around and saw the Prince behind him, his face suddenly changed.
Seeing Chen Da urging the Prince to send him to the training field, he quickly said, "Prince, I, I shouldn’t have hit first, but Chen Da was too bullying... I’m an archer by trade, and those training field obstacles are indeed hard to complete."
The training field set up by the Prince in the barracks was simply a nightmare for these soldiers; a round trip would take one or two hours, and every aspect was set with great difficulty, leaving one as exhausted as a dead dog with just one attempt.
Even experienced old soldiers preferred to practice formations or sword swings rather than tackle the training field.
He had fallen while crossing the cable formation this morning and almost broke his leg, then rested on the spot for two hours, and his leg was still swollen and limp now.
"Prince, Zhang San attacked me, violating military discipline, and should be severely punished!" Chen Da pointed at his swollen face angrily.
Rong Shuo’s gaze passed over Chen Da’s face, then turned to Zhang San, speaking in a stern and merciless tone, "No one may strike a comrade in the military, it’s a commandment, take a round on the training field."
Though unwilling, Zhang San had no other choice and cupped his fists, saying, "I obey, Prince."
Chen Da smirked triumphantly.
Before Zhang San could turn to leave, Rong Shuo continued, "I also once said that there are no divisions among comrades in the army, regardless of why the Pingnan Marquis is guilty, it has nothing to do with the Xiao Family Army. Chen Da, for speaking disrespectfully and slandering your comrade, you too will train at the field."
Chen Da’s eyes widened, shocked that he too got entangled in this matter.
Gritting his teeth, he clenched his fist, "I obey, Prince."
So be it, after all, he’s physically strong, just a bit of hardship, but Zhang San can’t even pass.
Zhang San lowered his head, said nothing, and quietly headed to the training field.
Rong Shuo then noticed that he limped while walking, one leg noticeably bulkier than the other.
Frowning, he was about to call Zhang San but hesitated, thinking of something, he remained silent, caught in a dilemma.
The Xiao Family Army was already struggling to integrate with other comrades, and now he’d punished the troublemakers Zhang San and Chen Da. If he actively stepped forward to relieve Zhang San, who knows what these soldiers would think.
If he had discovered Zhang San was injured earlier, he wouldn’t have issued the command.
Rong Heng’s gaze sharpened as he looked at Zhang San’s injured leg, suddenly speaking, "If your leg undergoes more strenuous activity, it will be crippled."
Zhang San looked up, glanced at him, and smiled sheepishly, "Young Master, if the leg’s crippled, it’s crippled, but I can’t let everyone think our Xiao Family Army are cowards."
His words moved the soldiers around.
"I’ll go for you."
Rong Heng stepped forward, steadily looking at Rong Shuo, his sharply focused eyes unwavering, "This matter arose because of me; I’ll take his place on the training field."
His voice was calm and collected, as if stating an insignificant matter, yet every word carried weight, stunning everyone around.
With that, Rong Heng started heading to the distant training field, tying up his slightly loose sleeves with bandages as he walked.
Rong Shuo didn’t expect the first thing Rong Heng would say to him in years would be this. He was even more surprised that his once proud and distant younger brother would stand up for a mere soldier.
"Young Master Rong...no need for this!" Zhang San quickly refused, "The training field is dangerous; it’s no place for someone like you."
Rong Heng looked at him sharply, "Do you think I’m just an outsider with no right to stand in for the Xiao Family Army?"
"That’s not what I mean...I just think...you’ve been wronged." Zhang San’s nose tingled, his eyes rimmed red, murmuring to himself.
For seven years, the remaining Xiao Family Army soldiers had been scattered across various camps, barely surviving under different commanders, bearing the so-called charge of treason and conspiracy, and no one had ever cared about them.
The Prince could treat the Xiao Family Army like any other soldier in the army, and Zhang San was already very satisfied.
And now, Rong Heng had stepped forward to show concern for a lowly soldier like him.
"Brother Hang, but you don’t know martial arts!"
