At the end of the day, the village shared more of their stories. Some were about previous generations of villagers fighting off nearby monsters, and some were about travelers who tried to attack them. Hikari found these far less interesting than the prospect of mermaids. Nonetheless, she soaked up as much information as possible.

When the next day started, it was time for the crew to set sail again. They readied their boat on the water, yet the villagers looked sad by their departure.

"Don't worry," Hikari said, "we will come back. By then, we might have an entirely new story to tell."

Sarrah smiled at the elven goddess. "I will look forward to it then, and we'll all be holding you to that. May the God of Deep Waters bless your journey."

Hikari wondered who that god was supposed to be, but she'd also not truly met another god aside from Amelia and the tree in the forest if that counted. At the very least, she'd seen Amelia's sister, albeit briefly.

The elf wondered how her little fairy was doing. While the group rowed towards the ship, she decided to check up on Senjo.

"Yes, my queen?"

"I was wondering how you and those princesses are doing."

"It's well. We've become good friends. They miss you."

"Tell them, I will be coming back after I finish my business in the Empire. What about you? How are you holding up?"

"No problems. I also miss you, my queen."

Hikari smiled. She decided she'd give the fairy a little gift for being so diligent. "I will allow you to travel to my domain and instruct the maids to give you the finest bee honey."

The fairy's voice changed notably from her queen's decree. The little Senjo became excited, her voice growing a little higher. "Thank you, my queen!"

Hikari closed the communication. They soon arrived to the ship, and the boat was hoisted up the side. The maids greeted their elven goddess.

"My lady," the angel said, "are we ready for departure."

"Yes. In the meanwhile, have one of the maids go back to our domain. Prepare Senjo the best honey you can gather. She's earned it."

The angel smiled knowingly. "You've always been so kind to us, my lady."

"I simply believe that people should be rewarded for their hard work. Besides, I feel bad that Senjo is left all by herself."

"Master," Kurayami said, cutting Hikari off. "Senjo is not by herself. She has the two princesses. While I don't like most mortals, those two are alright. They actually understand your greatness."

Hikari nodded. "You're right. Those two should be good company, and the queen is probably treating that fairy like royalty."

Amelia decided to speak at that moment. "I'm worried about how my people are doing. I hope this journey ends sooner rather than later."

Hikari sighed. "You're just using that as an excuse to get me to hurry along. We both know you can reach out to your queen to check the state of affairs in Amalin. Besides, this journey should really be a chance for you to broaden your horizons. Perhaps you will gain more followers."

"How am I to gain any followers while existing in your shadow? The only thing I've done on this adventure is play the part of babysitter."

"And I am sure those kids love you for it, right kids?"

Nona grinned. "Amelia is great. She's warm and cuddly. At night time she makes me feel safe, and when I am worried, I can hold her hand."

Kai assented. "She's like an aunt. I can tell she cares deeply about us."

Amelia blushed from their earnest words. "Thank you. Maybe this journey is not so bad, after all."

Hikari smiled knowingly before turning to the rest of the crew. "Alright, it's time to set sail. This time we'll be making our way towards that large island. This one shouldn't be too far, so we'll probably make it by night fall."

The crew immediately got to work, following her words. The raised the sails and lifted the anchors. Their diligence knew no bounds. It made Hikari worried she was running some type of black company. She made sure to note in her mind that the employees would get some paid time off. Maybe a nice time for relaxation? Hold on, do I even pay them in the first place?

She decided to relegate those thoughts to the back of her mind, letting the ship take its course. The large island they were heading towards wasn't too many nautical miles away. However, they were crossing very deep waters. It was said that many ships had gone missing on this small journey. Some people took a very long route to avoid this area. They'd hit a medium sized island and use that to restock.

However, Hikari didn't want to take this slower route. If there were sea monsters, she could simply have her dragon take care of them. She looked at all of the maids on board and smiled wryly. Or simply have any one of these take care of it.

The day passed smoothly, and the weather was fair. The sun eventually reached its zenith, and the crew was in the middle of the deep waters.

It was at this time that Kurayami addressed Hikari. "Master, there are two beings quickly approaching the ship. One of them appears to be smaller, and the other is a large sea creature. Should I kill both of them?"

Hikari put her hand up. "Wait, let me see what they are first."

The elf closed her eyes and spread her mana across the water's surface, eventually diving down even deeper. Two beings were indeed fast approaching. One of them was a large creature that Hikari had heard of before on Earth. A Mosasaur?

She realized that the beast was gaining on its prey. Hikari's eyes widened. A woman with a large scaly fin fled from the monster. A mermaid!

Hikari looked towards her dragon. "I will take care of this."

She isolated all of her underwater mana onto the Mosasaur. The large beast reacted to the sudden prodding of mana against its massive body. It turned its head from side to side in desperation, attempting to find the invader. However, none of its movements bore fruit.

Besides, Hikari had already finished readying her spell. "[Beam of Sacred Light]".

The entire ocean parted around the Mosasaur. For a brief second, the large reptile floated in the air. All of the fish beneath it had been unlucky to be caught in its rapture. From the sea floor to the sky, all were made one in that second. If one cast their case from the heavens, they'd be able to gaze upon the sea's depths, and if one cast their gaze to the heavens from the depths, they'd gaze upon the clouds themselves.

There was no shock wave. No explosion. All of the light simply made everything else in that circle cease to exist. The Mosasaur. The fish below. Even the plants. It was like they were never there in the first place.

When Hikari canceled the spell, the ocean rushed back in to fill the hole, sending ripples in all directions and rocking the ship on the surface.

The maids looked towards their goddess in shock and awe. A demigod level creature was destroyed by one spell in one second, and none of it took any toll on the caster.

There was no doubt in Hikari's mind that her actions would probably cause a storm somewhere, but that was for later Hikari to deal with. For now, she sprouted her wings and flew above the ocean where she'd cast the spell.

From where the light disappeared, a goddess descended, and a mermaid breached the surface to stare in disbelief at the winged being.

Looking closer, Hikari observed more of the girl's features. She had long, flowing jellyfish-like blue hair. It was similar to the tops of jellyfish Hikari remembered. A gorgeous tiara made of shining pearls decorated the top of her head, and the girl had cute and round fishy, blue eyes. Along her neck on either side were three gills, and she wore a bikini of white shells to cover her ample chest. Below, there was a long tail, reminding Hikari of the many tales of mermaids from Earth.

For the first time, Hikari decided to greet her as a goddess. "Greetings, little one."

"I-I can't believe it," the girl said, "y-you killed Lord Mosa…"

"Lord Mosa? Was that his name? My condolences, but it looked like this lord was trying to eat you."

The girl's wide eyes blinked in confusion. "He was trying to eat me, for that is my duty."

"Your duty is to be eaten? Then why were you swimming away?"

The mermaid flinched, gripping the small trident in her hand tighter. "I disobeyed the rules of my tribe...I'm going to be an outcast. Please, just kill me for my transgressions, Goddess."

Hikari shook her head. "I am not going to kill you, and neither will you be eaten. You can trust me. I don't bite."
