"Your Majesty, be careful!"
Elaria gripped her staff tightly and stepped in front of Renjiro without hesitation. The four goblin elders were all ninth-circle warriors, while she was only at the eighth circle—far from being their match.
But that didn't matter to her. Renjiro wasn't just her king; he was also her fiancé. If protecting him meant putting her own life on the line, then so be it.
The three elven commanders and several nearby mages immediately followed her lead, launching spells and arrows toward the charging goblins.
"Don't let them get near His Majesty!"
The goblin elders sneered as they pushed forward, raising their magic shields. The incoming attacks, whether they were arrows or spells, bounced harmlessly off the glowing green barriers.
Against enemies who were only sixth and seventh-circle, these ninth-circle goblins felt like predators toying with their prey.
"You Pointy Ear King, you will regret setting foot in our great Goblin Territory!" one of them taunted.
"Without your Giant Golems, what do you have left to fight us?" another sneered.
"Capture that pointy ear King—I'll feast on his flesh myself!"
Their excitement was palpable. The elves had once crushed them before. And now, they had the chance to capture their king alive.
They could already taste victory.
The gap between them and Renjiro was closing fast. But instead of showing fear, the elf king took a step forward. He reached into his cloak and pulled out a dagger, its golden blade gleamed even in the dim underground light.
"What is that weapon?" one goblin muttered.
"Doesn't matter," another scoffed. "Even if it's a divine artifact, he's too weak to unleash its power!"
"Exactly! Capture the Pointy ear King, and the war is as good as ours!"
Renjiro chuckled. "You're celebrating too soon."
Just as the goblins reached within striking distance, he raised the dagger and swung it in a wide arc.
The moment the blade cut through the air, an invisible force spread outward. The goblin elders, who had been sprinting at full speed, suddenly froze in place.
"What's happening?" one of them stammered.
A strange energy engulfed their bodies, but before they could react, their forms began to change. Before the eyes of both armies, the four mighty goblin elders shrank, their bodies twisting and morphing until—
"Baa~~"
"Baaaa!!"
Four fluffy, white sheep now stood where the elders had once been. The battlefield fell into stunned silence.
Rukk, who had been watching from his carriage, suddenly collapsed onto the ground. His beady eyes bulged in disbelief as he pointed a trembling finger at the sheep. "Th-The elders... turned into... sheep?!"
His voice cracked into a shriek. "What the hellllll, what kind of weapon is that?! It can turn goblins warriors into livestock! Is it some kind of cursed artifact?!"
The goblin soldiers were just as dumbfounded.
"The goblin warriors turned into sheep?"
"They look... really plump."
"I bet roasted sheep with would taste amazing..."
"Damn it, now I'm hungry."
"Retreat! Retreat! The pointy ear King must have some evil druid magic! If we get too close, we'll turn into sheep too!"
"Retreat?! Are you mad? Keep charging!"
The goblins in the front hesitated, wanting to turn back, but the ones behind them were still surging forward, screaming for blood. Above them, another wave of elven arrows rained down.
The goblin army descended into chaos.
Panicked shouts filled the battlefield as goblins tripped over one another, some even getting crushed beneath the stampede of their own kind.
Fear spread like wildfire, but the sight of their once-powerful elders standing helplessly as sheep was what truly shattered their morale.
"Lorien, take these sheep away," Renjiro commanded.
"O-Oh! Yes, Your Majesty!" Lorien stammered, still struggling to process what had just happened.
She and the other elves had witnessed it firsthand—Renjiro had merely swung his golden dagger, and the once-mighty ninth-circle goblin warriors had transformed into docile livestock. It was almost too absurd to believe, yet the proof stood right in front of them, bleating in distress.
The elves quickly grabbed the woolly creatures and led them away. The transformed elders tried to resist, but their struggles were useless.
In this state, every ounce of their power was sealed away, leaving them no different from real sheep—down to the texture of their flesh.
Rukk the Goblin King was on the verge of a breakdown. His face turned an alarming shade of purple as he roared, "No retreat! Charge! We must take back the warriors!"
"Kill them all!" Fueled by desperation, the goblin army launched a full-scale assault.
Renjiro remained unfazed. Without a word, he raised his weapon, the cursed dagger known as Mischief's Reaper, and swung it again.
A wave of eerie energy spread across the battlefield. The charging goblins froze in place. And then—
"Baa~~"
Hundreds of goblin warriors turned into sheep in an instant. The army faltered. Renjiro swung again. Another hundred goblins transformed, their weapons clattering to the ground as they blinked their newly-formed beady eyes in confusion.
Again.
And again.
With every sweep of his blade, the battlefield was overtaken by white, fluffy sheep. The sounds of weapons clashing were soon drowned out by an overwhelming chorus of terrified bleating.
Rukk's expression twisted in horror. "This... This is impossible!"
The remaining goblin soldiers came to the same conclusion. They couldn't win this. They weren't fighting a normal elf, they were fighting a monster!
Without hesitation, Rukk turned and bolted. "Retreat! RETREAT!"
He scrambled up onto his carriage, his plump form shaking as he clung to the sides. His mount, a subterranean drake, roared and turned to flee, dragging the royal carriage toward the safety of the city walls.
Renjiro's eyes remained cold.
"Lorien," he said calmly. "Order the ballista crews to target the walls. Bring them down."
"Understood, Your Majesty."
The elves swiftly adjusted their siege weapons. Ten massive ballistae, each loaded with piercing bolts as long as a spear, aimed at the goblin city's defenses.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The sound of destruction echoed through the cavern as the first wave of projectiles struck the walls, blasting gaping holes into the ancient stone. The ground trembled with each impact.
