Chapter 353: Chapter 354 Shy

Ryker blinked at her, pretending to be confused. "Turtle... bus?"

Luna gasped. "Daddy, how can you not know? It was huge. And it swam. And flew. And it had glowing seats. And my bed was beside Boo... ugh... but also it was so pretty."

Ryker finally laughed, unable to hold it in. "Ah... that turtle bus."

"Yes, that one." Luna bounced excitedly in his arms, her tail wagging fast beneath the blanket. "Teacher took us under the ocean and we went so deep and there were shiny fishes and a princess mermaid and swings and a shark boy and..."

She drew a long breath, her whole tiny body vibrating with excitement as she sat between her parents. Her mother’s gentle hands stroked her hair, encouraging her to continue, and her father listened with that soft, proud look he only ever had for his daughter.

"Okay, so..." Luna began, eyes shining brightly, "I made friends. Real friends. Their names are Sunny and Fiona." Her hands clapped together in excitement. "Sunny is so sweet and Fiona cooks fake fish stew. And we played house house and I was the leader."

Her mother laughed softly. "Of course you were."

Luna continued, her hands flying animatedly as she spoke. "And Boo pretended to be a baby. A real baby. He was crawling and going ’mamaaa’ and Sunny fed him pretend fish and he ate it like this." She puffed her cheeks and mimicked Boo’s dramatic chewing, making both parents chuckle.

Ryker kissed the top of her head. "That Boo boy is always unusual."

"And teacher almost got scared," Luna nodded seriously. "Because some of my classmates got lost." Her voice dropped, ears tilting back. "Kelpie and Rocky and Felix..."

Her parents both went still.

"They got lost?" her mother asked, brows lifting in worry.

"Yes..." Luna whispered, her lip wobbling a little. "Everyone was so scared... even teacher. She was running everywhere and calling them and everyone looked worried and... and I was scared too because what if they did not come back..."

Ryker cupped her cheek and brought her face toward him gently. "But they were found safe, hmm?"

Luna nodded quickly. "Yes, yes. We found them in a big scary cave. And Principal Sir fought an octopus uncle. He was so big. And Boo glowed like a lantern. And teacher went inside and saved everyone and then everyone hugged everyone and then we came home." She told the whole thing and how teacher trusted her to take care of her classmates.

Her mother hugged her tightly, squeezing her just a little. "You were very brave, sweetheart."

Ryker placed his large hand over her tiny one. "And we are proud of you for listening to your teacher and staying with your classmates."

Luna beamed, her tail wagging furiously under the blanket again.

She curled into her father’s chest as her mother stroked her hair.

Their little moon had grown just a little more today.

Sable rubbed his sleepy eyes with both fists, blinking at the soft morning light spilling across the room. The bed beneath him felt warm and familiar, and when he turned his head, he found Lucien curled beside him, still sleeping with his little fists tucked under his chin. For a moment, Sable simply stared, his mind wandering hazily, until everything from yesterday came rushing back.

Arielle.

Her gleaming pink eyes, her silver hair drifting like clouds, her bright little smile as she waved at him again and again.

Sable’s face heated instantly, blossoming into the shyest, sweetest blush. His shadows wiggled around him like curious little worms, sensing something new in their tiny master.

"Who made you blush like this? Hmm?"

Sable jolted and looked up quickly.

Dante stood near the doorway, fresh from a shower. His dark hair was still wet, strands falling over his forehead in lazy waves. He wore one of his simple Nightshade outfits, black, minimal, dangerous in the most effortless way, hugging his tall frame in a way that made even the shadows shy away respectfully.

He leaned one shoulder against the wall, hands in his pockets, a faint smirk teasing the corner of his mouth as he studied Sable’s glowing red cheeks.

"Dad..." Sable whispered, embarrassed, his little fingers curling into the blanket as he looked down. His blush deepened so much that even his shadows blushed with him, turning a faint purple hue.

"I made friends yesterday..." he murmured shyly, his voice thin like a whispering breeze. "And she is excited to meet me again..."

Dante stilled.

"She...?" he repeated, one eyebrow lifting with exaggerated suspicion. "A she?"

Sable nodded, his hair falling over his eyes.

Dante walked closer and sat on the edge of the bed, his smirk growing as he noticed how Sable’s shadows twirled in shy little loops behind him.

"Let me guess..." he said slowly, leaning a little forward, "was it that little mermaid... the one waving at you like her tail was about to fall off?"

Sable’s eyes widened, mortified.

"Dad!" he squeaked, both hands covering his flushed face.

Dante chuckled quietly, ruffling Sable’s hair with one gentle hand. "So she was waving at you."

Sable buried his face deeper, his small shoulders trembling with shyness.

"She was cute," he whispered from behind his hands, voice tiny. "And she said... she said she wants to meet me again..."

Dante’s chest warmed despite himself. His stoic face softened.

"Well then," he said, tapping Sable’s forehead gently, "you should meet her again."

Sable peeked through his fingers, hopeful. "Really?"

"Of course," Dante said. "My little shadow deserves good friends."

Sable smiled so brightly the entire room felt lighter.

But suddenly Sable’s smile faltered, drooping like a wilting flower. His shadows, which had been happily looping behind him moments ago, sank close to the floor in sympathy.

"But I... I was not able to say bye to Miss Alina..." he whispered, his voice barely audible.

The sadness on his tiny face was so pure, so soft, that Dante paused. He tilted his head, observing him with curiosity.

"You like Miss Alina that much?" Dante asked, his tone gentle but carrying a glint of interest beneath it.

Sable’s cheeks puffed a little as he lowered his gaze, his fingers twisting into the blanket. "She gave me Kit Kat," he murmured shyly, "and then a diary... and she is nice with me..."
