I Became a Kindergarten Teacher for Monster Babies!-Chapter 344 Fair trade
He didn’t answer.
Only the low, dangerous hum of his rage vibrated through the darkness, shaking her bones. The shadows trembled as if torn between ripping the cave apart and curling closer around her like frightened animals.
Her eyes softened. Something clicked inside her heart.
Shadows were born from him.
Shadows obeyed him.
Shadows were him.
And if they held her this gently, even in his fury, then he hadn’t lost control completely.
So she slowly raised her arms and wrapped them around the dark tendrils, hugging them as if they were a scared child instead of the extension of a raging demon lord.
The shadows stiffened at the unexpected touch.
"Dante," she whispered, caressing them with steady fingers, "look at me. Calm down. That man didn’t kidnap the babies. They helped him. Please... come back."
Her touch landed softly on the nearest shadow, and to her shock, the darkness reacted instantly, leaning toward her hand as if it had been waiting for her to reach out. The coldness wrapped around her fingers like dipping her hand into deep winter water. She gasped quietly as the chill crawled up her wrist.
But she didn’t pull away.
Instead, she stroked the shadows again, slowly, gently, the way one would comfort a frightened creature.
And the shadows softened.
They pressed closer, curling around her waist like long, protective ribbons that understood her voice more than Dante did. Alina swallowed hard and continued speaking in a calm tone, explaining what Kelpie had told her, how the boys only wanted to help, how none of this had been a real threat.
The shadows tightened behind her in a strange, almost affectionate embrace.
Then something unbelievable happened.
The cold darkness suddenly warmed, heat blooming through the shadows like a small heartbeat. The warmth spread through her body, sinking deep into her chilled bones, and Alina’s lips parted in shock. It felt as if she was being held gently in strong, invisible arms.
Her breath caught.
Dante’s shadows were responding to her.
Before she could understand how, the world shifted quietly, and the next second she was standing on the cave floor again. The water was cold and still around her ankles. The crushing darkness was gone. The deep pressure had vanished. The air felt normal again.
Her eyes lifted.
The babies were safe.
Dante had returned to normal. Koel still looked furious and insulted. King Corvus, Lady Maris, and several guards were rushing toward the children.
Lady Maris immediately scooped Kelpie into her arms, covering his face with frantic kisses. Kelpie hiccupped softly, clinging to her neck as she whispered soothing words.
Alina’s gaze searched the chamber. Drake, Luna, Sable, Vlad Jr., Lucien—where were they—
Ah. There they were, stumbling in behind the guards, wide-eyed, shaken, but unharmed. Relief washed through her like warm water.
"Thank the ocean you are back to normal," King Corvus said as he exhaled hard, his voice trembling faintly. Dante only nodded, his jaw tight. The tips of his ears flushed a deep red when his eyes met Alina’s briefly. She held his stare for a heartbeat before he glanced away sharply.
Alina didn’t have time to think about it. She hurried straight to Felix, Rocky, and Boo.
"Teacher!" Felix cried as he reached for her, and she crouched immediately, pulling all three into a tight embrace. Rocky wrapped his arms around her neck with desperate strength, and Boo squeezed so hard she nearly lost her breath.
She stroked Rocky’s head softly. "It’s okay. Everything is normal now. You’re safe."
Rocky buried his face in her shoulder. Felix pressed himself to her side, silent but trembling.
And Boo—
He pulled back just enough to glare at her with puffed cheeks.
"Techarrrr!!! Where did you go?! Did you hide? Did you turn invisible?" he demanded, his little tail twitching with outrage. "Boo looked everywhere! Only dark-dark-dark! No teacher!"
Alina blinked. "Boo—"
He pointed at her chest dramatically.
"And then suddenly you appeared like magic! Boo thought teacher became shadow and ran away!"
"Boo!" Alina whispered, mortified. "I didn’t run away!"
He gasped dramatically. "So you did turn into shadow?! Like sir?! Did sir eat you?!"
"BOO!!" Alina nearly collapsed.
Behind her, Felix and Rocky froze, eyes huge.
Luna peeked out from behind Drake. "Sir ate teacher...?"
Drake grabbed Vlad Jr. like a shield. "Are we next...?"
Dante stiffened violently.
King Corvus pinched the bridge of his nose. Lady Maris covered her mouth to hide a smile. Koel looked unhappy.
And Alina wished the cave would open and swallow her whole.
Finally King Corvus stepped forward, shoulders squared.
"Elder Koel," he said, his voice echoing through the chamber with restrained anger, "what was this? Why did you take the babies into your cave? Do you understand the panic you caused outside?"
Koel didn’t even look at him.
The elder turned silently and walked toward a large seaweed bed arranged neatly with soft sea plants and woven coral mats. It looked like a quiet home belonging to someone who lived alone for far too long.
He sat down with a heavy exhale, crossing two arms while the others settled behind him.
"Go away," Koel muttered flatly. "I already told this lady the reason."
Alina blinked, then explained everything again to the others.
King Corvus’s jaw tightened. "Elder Koel, even if your intentions were not harmful, you cannot take children inside a closed barrier. This is not how we handle young ones—"
"This is my cave," Koel cut in coldly. "My home. My space. They came in with me. No one was harmed."
His voice was flat, distant, and heavy with the loneliness of a warrior who no longer wanted to explain himself twice.
Dante’s eyes narrowed, the last traces of shadow lingering around his boots. "You frightened Miss Alina and the children."
Koel’s golden eyes flicked toward Dante for a split second, then he scoffed and looked away again. "You nearly sliced my head off for it. Fair trade."
Dante’s shoulders stiffened, the faintest shade of embarrassment crossing his features.
