I Awoke as an Imprisoned Villainess-Chapter 33 - Mother is like a flower
Mother is like a flower
Violet’s mother was a modest person while also having the dignity of a royalty, who cherished her husband, the duke, and Violet.
She was a very beautiful person. She always tried to appear beautiful at all times.
Whenever she saw her fluffy golden hair and purple eyes, the young Violet would proudly puff out her chest.
(My mother is like a flower.)
Violet isn’t the only who thinks so. After all, her mother is called Princess Violet by the whole country.
Of course, Violet’s mother is far more gorgeous and beautiful than the lovely and frugal flower. Violet used to think that the flower, which resembled her and her mother’s eyes, wasn’t so bad until she was five years old.
~~~~~
It was when Violet had just turned five years old that her mother began to complain of poor health.
My mother who never showed her health condition, often fell down and threw things against the wall with a loud voice.
Even after summoning the apothecaries from the royal palace, having the Pope of the cathedral pray for her, and being examined by my uncle, an extraordinary magician, we were unable to pinpoint the cause or even alleviate the symptoms, whether they were caused by an illness or malicious intents of others.
“…I wish Arbuthnot had been here at a time like this”
That’s what my father said.
But apparently, he has already retired and stated that he will not see any patients, but only develop drugs and conduct research.
In addition, he has just recently lost his only daughter. When Arbuthnot attended her funeral, he simply said, “I’m going away for a while for research” and still today, no one knows where he is.
Meanwhile, my mother grew weaker. Violet, looking at the wilting flower, came to know about the emotion of anxiety for the first time.
“…Mother. Are you okay?”
Violet called out to her mother who was lying in bed. The maid of honor was cleaning something broken. Mother’s mood must have soured by something and threw it at her. She had never done something like this before.
“If you still have a headache, Violet will be there for you”
Saying that, Violet goes to her mother. Her beautiful golden eyelashes are wet with tears, and her very thin arms hug Violet tightly. The gentle smell of her mother’s cosmetics was accompanied by an unfamiliar scent of flowers.
“…Thank you, Violet”
Saying this, my mother smiled sadly and kissed my forehead as before. That was the last time my mother kissed me.
Within days after that, my mother began to keep a distance from my father and me. The only person who was allowed to be with her was her maid of honor. She became so enamored with this maid that she would do anything she was told by her, and soon after, she passed away.
Just before she passed away, Violet’s mother hugged Violet for the first time in a long time. Her skinny body was strongly scented with the scent of that flower.
“Sometimes, flowers are broken unreasonably”
Violet gazed at her mother who was sleeping in her coffin, surrounded by lilies and violets, as her uncle, the grand duke, said that to her.
Her father and her other uncle, the king were crying. Violet did not cry. She was trembling with anger as much as with grief.
The maid of honor whom her mother had been so fascinated with, disappeared and died a few hours after her mother’s death. The adults had said that she had probably taken her own life because of the situation, but Violet thought that she could not be that kind of person.
(—Definitely silenced)
“Uncle, you also believe that mother was murdered by someone?”
“…You are a clever girl, Violet”
The grand duke made a slightly surprised sound, then said again in a quiet voice.
“Remember, Violet. You must not become a flower with only beauty. Become an honorable person who will not be belittled or robbed by anyone. …If you do that, I’m sure you’ll be able to catch your mother’s murderer”
The words fell deep into Violet’s heart, still frozen at the very bottom of her mind.
~~~~~
—Violet bit her lips loosely, remembering such a past for the first time in a long time.
She had forgotten herself and said something unnecessary in response to Arbuthnot’s words. She was ashamed of this blunder, but her mind was still confused.
My uncle can’t be the culprit.
She bit her lips tightly.
She is now in the carriage returning to the Count Alcott’s house after leaving the Marquis Arbuthnot’s house. The two people in front of Violet don’t ask anything to her who is silently looking out the window.
As she turned her eyes towards the two of them who were looking at her with concern, but being careful not to get noticed, she met eyes with Sophia.
The girl in front of her looked as if she was wondering what kind of face she should make at a time like this, and then she smiled awkwardly with her eyebrows lowered.
This series of stupid expressions cooled her confused head somewhat.
“…….Sometimes, even your stupid expressions are nice as long as you don’t look in the mirror”
“S-stupid…?”
Leaving the sad and bewildered Sophia alone, Violet repeated Arbuthnot’s words in her brain with a cool head.
(Originally, I thought that the new drug created by Arbuthnot must have been used by a malicious third party, including that vixen.)
Then, I thought that I would just crush them without a trace under the pressure of the duke and the royal family after getting enough evidence and pinpointing the culprits.
(…Arbuthnot. There is surely no reason for that man to lie. —Then I guess my uncle is the culprit after all.)
Violet did not know of any magician with the power to revive extinct plants other than the grand duke.
