Chapter 147 - Umbraezer vs. Vorathos Part II

He was at Umbraezar's flank in less than a breath, blade stabbing toward the gap between his ribs.

Umbraezar dropped one wing like a shield—its edge catching the strike with a shriek of metal-on-metal—and countered with a flaming claw for Vorathos's head.

Vorathos caught the wrist mid-swing.

Held it.

And twisted.

A crack echoed across the training chamber.

Umbraezar grunted—and grinned. "Not bad."

His other hand surged forward, a palm strike laced with Voidflame. Vorathos released the hold just in time, ducking under it, sliding across the floor in a blur.

"Your style," Umbraezar said, turning, "is different."

Vorathos adjusted his stance. "It is not made for show."

He advanced again.

This time, the fight became less about power and more about pressure.

Umbraezar's strikes were fluid, wide arcs laced with elemental destruction. His claws moved like siege weapons—each one meant to overwhelm and break through, not just kill.

Vorathos responded with surgical precision. Every slash from his blade felt preordained. He didn't waste energy on feints—he simply moved where he needed to be.

And yet—neither gave an inch.

Umbraezar drove him back with a barrage of strikes—claws, tail, wings—all in perfect harmony.

Vorathos turned every assault into an opening. Each block was a setup for a parry. Each dodge brought him closer.

Then he struck.

Voidblade to Umbraezar's side—direct hit.

Flames burst from the impact point, Umbraezar stumbling half a step.

But he roared, the wound sealing in real time, and retaliated with a spinning strike.

Vorathos vanished again, and reappeared above.

And brought the voidblade down in a cleaving vertical arc.

Umbraezar caught it with both arms crossed over his head—grunting from the force—and was driven to one knee.

The floor beneath him cracked like glass.

Silence stretched for a breath.

Then Umbraezar laughed.

"Now this, this is worthy of the Monarch."

Vorathos stepped back, blade lowering a fraction. "You are... acceptable."

Umbraezar surged back to his feet with a snarl. "We're not done."

"Not yet," Vorathos agreed.

They clashed again.

This time faster. Heavier. The very air screamed with each exchange. I could feel the ripples of void energy scraping against my own aura, warping the reinforced chamber around us like paper held too close to fire.

Sparks, flame, and shadow collided again and again, faster than most could even follow.

And still, neither backed down.

Leon leaned closer to me, jaw tight. "Uh... you are going to stop them before they shatter the whole facility, right?"

Mirae, eyes wide, simply whispered, "No. Let them finish."

I nodded once, eyes locked on the two monsters tearing the battlefield apart in front of me.

Vorathos's stance shifted—his blade humming low with void energy. Umbraezar's flames deepened, no longer just red and gold, but tinged with dark blue, flickering like shadows in firelight.

They stared at each other. And then Umbraezar smiled.

"You said you wanted a proper test. It would be rude not to give you something worth watching."

Vorathos gave a small nod. "Then stop holding back."

Umbraezar's wings snapped open, stirring the air with a sharp gust. Flames coiled around his arms, flowing like liquid fire. The ground beneath him hissed and cracked from the heat.

Vorathos raised his blade and extended one hand. The air around him rippled—shadows pulling in toward his body like water circling a drain.

Without another word, they charged. And the chamber exploded into motion.

Vorathos blurred into motion, moving so fast he left afterimages—three, four, five versions of himself slashing from different angles.

Their powers clashed—shadow against flame.

Umbraezar's palm lit up, and he struck back a punch laced with searing voidflame. It hit Vorathos full-on, sending him sliding backward, boots grinding through the stone floor.

Vorathos caught himself, eyes narrowed. He raised a hand—and a ball of pure darkness formed above it.

With a single slash of his blade, the orb split apart, releasing six curved blades of shadow that shot toward Umbraezar like scythes.

Umbraezar didn't dodge, but he charged through them.

Flames erupted from his claws, and he swung in wide arcs, smashing through the void blades one by one, each impact sending sparks and dark mist across the room.

When the smoke cleared, both stood still, facing each other from across the chamber.

Then Umbraezar cracked his neck and chuckled. "This is more like it."

Vorathos pointed his blade at him again. "Don't slow down now."

I watched from the edge, Mirae and Leon beside me. The air was thick with power—too much for a normal person to bear.

Leon leaned in, clearly nervous. "So... uh... what's gonna happen now?"

Mirae didn't blink. "They're both monsters."

I didn't answer. I just smiled, eyes locked on the two of them as they raised their power once more.

Umbraezar's back rippled—and dark flames exploded out.

From the fire, new limbs formed. A massive claw. A wing made of shadows. A long spear. And twisting serpent-like tendrils, all made from unstable Voidflame.

They hovered around him, alive, ready.

Vorathos narrowed his eyes.

Umbraezar grinned. "Phantom Maw. Let's play for real."

The summoned weapons moved as if they had minds of their own.

The spear lunged first.

Vorathos dodged, flipping to the side, and only for the wing to slash across. He ducked again, just in time. Then the claw slammed down, cracking the floor where he had stood.

He was fast, but they were everywhere.

Vorathos didn't retreat. Instead, he moved forward. His blade lit up with shadow.

Each step built up power, the edge of his weapon darkening—like it was pulling in the very air around it.

Then he struck.

One clean slash.

Abyssal Strike.

The blade tore through one of Umbraezar's phantom limbs—and kept going, carving a deep cut across his shoulder.

Umbraezar growled.

But before he could react, Vorathos vanished.

He reappeared behind him, another strike already swinging down.
