I Am Your Natural Enemy-Chapter 509 - 206: First Incense Offering, Changing Fate (5k)
Wen Yan hung up the phone, rubbing his slightly dazed head.
Well, damn, another jinx just cropped up.
This one’s been confirmed, and apparently, this jinx is even more intense than Hao Mingyang.
Scorching Sun Department’s field agents in Guanzhong Commandery—just getting close, before they even did anything—four or five got injured. Two of them took the elevator and got stuck inside, and then the elevator went crazy and started shooting up nonstop.
You know, an elevator shooting up is way more dangerous than one falling.
Luckily, there were other people around, and those two field agents knew what to do to save themselves in that situation, otherwise, who knows how bad it could’ve gotten.
Then the room caught on fire afterwards—a real shitshow.
To top it off, the investigators at the scene found the mold there was actually a pathogenic fungus, too.
Now, everyone who’s been to the scene, heck, even those just near the place, anyone in contact with it—they all have to be under medical observation now.
A whole messy ruckus, but finally someone’s been called in to deal with it: they took back the two corpses that couldn’t be separated, and sealed up the two ghosts to bring them back as well.
Wen Yan glanced at Qing Xuzi, wondering to himself that hearing this news, Qing Xuzi was probably going to have a subtle little meltdown.
"Taoist priest, I just got the news, there’s another jinx, and he also says he’s not himself."
The silver needle in Qing Xuzi’s hand dropped to the floor without a sound.
Then, without changing his expression, he picked it up and kept sticking the red skirt ghost with it.
The red skirt ghost looked at the silver needle stuck in his body, hesitated a moment, and still carefully muttered a word.
"Doctor, this needle’s dirty..."
"You’re not afraid of infection! Who’s the doctor here, you or me!"
"..."
The red skirt ghost didn’t dare say more. His condition was visibly improving—the half of his body that had been chewed away was already starting to grow back.
He didn’t really get it, didn’t know what the treatment should be, but he’d felt like he was almost about to fade away before, and now that feeling was completely gone. He could feel himself recovering, and his spirit had gotten a lot better too.
Also, maybe it was because the other guy was a doctor, but he kept feeling that guy’s gaze was scary—it always dug up the fears from when he was just a little kid.
Besides, the guy was here to save him, so he’d better show a little respect to this Taoist priest.
Qing Xuzi’s state of mind, honestly, was a little blown away.
He’d been chasing one for days, almost shook his own spiritual core, before finally getting a handle on one jinx.
And now there’s another one, and just hearing the keywords, he knew it’s gotta be the same thing.
Are jinxes getting churned out in bulk now?
What the hell could be mass-producing jinxes? This is nuts, right?
Is it a thing? Or a person?
Qing Xuzi’s head kept churning over ideas, and only after finishing the treatment for the day did he walk over to Wen Yan.
"What exactly is going on?"
"I’ve only heard the gist of it. To get the details, we’ll have to go to Guanzhong Commandery."
Wen Yan was already getting ready to call in backup. He took a look at the safe.
"Taoist priest, should we bring Hao Mingyang?"
"Yeah, bring him. Even an idiot can see there’s some kind of connection between them. Might get lucky with some answers."
"Are you going to Guanzhong Commandery, too?"
"Of course. Have to."
After he finished, Qing Xuzi gave the red skirt ghost another look. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
"Don’t look at me—I’m definitely bringing you along. If I don’t cure you, it’ll ruin my reputation."
The red skirt ghost shrank his neck, thinking, I didn’t even say anything, what’s it got to do with me?
"I asked a ghost friend to take me on a shortcut—wanna come with, Taoist priest?"
"What shortcut?"
"Borrowing the Nether Path."
Qing Xuzi sized up Wen Yan, a bit surprised.
"You’re a living martial artist, always hitching rides on the spirit road?"
Are you really not afraid of dying?
Ever hear the saying? If you walk the ghost road too much, sooner or later you run into a ghost. And there’s a second half to that.
"What is it?"
"If you walk the spirit road too much, sooner or later you’ll become a ghost yourself."
"Oh, it’s fine. I’m used to it. Wanna join me, Taoist priest?"
Wen Yan thought to himself, I even stayed in the Netherworld for more than a month, you think I’m scared of taking a shortcut through the Nether Path?
"I’ll go by myself, I’m flying." Qing Xuzi shook his head and couldn’t help adding, "Don’t know where you get this courage, but I really think you should lay off that road."
"My aunt gave it to me."
"Who?"
"A relative of mine."
Qing Xuzi didn’t say anything else, though he thought inwardly, people from Fuyu Mountain sure are arrogant—even after falling from grace, can’t shake those habits.
Qing Xuzi pulled out his phone, quickly booked the earliest flight, then called a car via an app, waiting for his ride.
While he waited, Wen Yan opened up the safe and took out the little jade carving wrapped in talismans.
He glanced at the red skirt ghost.
"You stick with the Taoist priest, do as he says. He’s definitely gonna fix you up."
A few minutes later, Grave Walker showed up outside, following the location info.
"Thanks for the help."
"No need to thank me. I’ve got nothing better to do. Come on, if you have an urgent job you come to me, that’s the right move. I might not be good at much else, but I can get you where you need to go."
Wen Yan waved goodbye to Qing Xuzi, followed Grave Walker, and entered the desolate tomb via the little path Grave Walker opened, vanishing from sight.
Qing Xuzi shook his head to himself. Wen Yan, with all this—leaving the house by letting a ghost carve a path through the tomb—he’s more like a Qingcheng guy than even the Qingcheng folks are.
The Qingcheng people, by tradition, are called Envoys of Ghosts and Gods; even they aren’t as casual as Wen Yan, wouldn’t dare just borrow a path through the Netherworld at will.
Every now and then, if they’re forced to make the trip, it’s a huge ritual: set up an altar, light the Everbright Lamp, tie the red thread, and, most importantly, you need a rooster that’s at least seven years old to crow at the critical moment.
