I Am Tired Of Being A Hero-Chapter 243: Lisa goes home
Chapter 243: Lisa goes home fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
Lisa wanted to throw up, the expression of the man in front of her had completely changed. No, it was not just the expression; he did not look like the same man that she had fallen for.
There was no trace of kindness or gentleness left on his face. He laughed cruelly. It was as if an ancient evil had been resurrected, a mouthful of blood and devouring goodwill wherever he went.
"Get on your knees, put your hands behind your head." Her hands shook as she held the gun but she gritted her teeth, trying to keep it steady. Her stomach churned. It was like the grim from this person was crawling up her skin, she wanted to use a scrubbing brush and wash herself.
"Lili! You are overthinking all these. I am sure there is a reasonable explanation for all these coincidences. Someone is setting me up." His face was cold and expressionless like a wooden doll, the moment she bombarded him with all her questions and suspicions, his face had lost any kind of warmth. However, his voice was gentle as ever, bringing a terrible kind of eerie feeling.
"Shut up! Don’t you dare? Don’t you dare call me that?" Lisa’s voice broke and she raised her unarmed hand to use her ability.
"Eth...Ethan Kim, you are under arrest for Murder."
Ethan froze up for a second and slumped to the ground. His entire body stiffened and he fell to the ground.
Lisa rushed towards him, using all the training in her police academy years to remain calm; she turned him over and held both of his hands together. Two minutes, her ability could last only two minutes, and even then, it would leave her tired. She started to reach for her handcuffs to loop around his wrists and she reached for her handcuffs when she froze, her eyes blanking for a while.
She stood up and walked out of the living room, opening the door and heading downstairs. By the time, Lisa left the elevator, light returned to her eyes.
She took out her phone and dialed Ethan, "Ba...Ethan, come back now, you and I need to have a talk."
The voice on the other line was gentle, "Lili. Did something happen at work? I am home, should I order some noodles and fried chicken?"
"No need." Lisa switched off her phone, she rubbed her head, feeling a bit of a headache as her heart continued to thump louder and louder.
She habitually wanted to take out the last drawing that Ravi made but she could not find it.
Eh? She had just taken it out when she left the taxi. Did she throw it away? Lisa clenched her fist, forget it, the picture was not important right now. She forced herself to stand upright in the elevator but the words of the two of the gym receptionists continued to echo in her head.
"You must be wrong officer. Mr Kim never signed a membership with us."
"Well, we have him on the list and he regularly pays for his classes but aside from the last day, he had never attended once."
Her boyfriend was very particular about gym and Pilates, every day from 6-9. Even when he was on leave and on weekends. He had never missed it.
If he was not there, then where was he? For the first time in her life, Lisa hoped that her boyfriend was cheating on her, because if he was not cheating on her, she could not bear it, she did not want to bear the alternative to it.
"What was he wearing? Eh his doctor’s coat, Oh I remember, he was wearing a Dear Me to Do It t-shirt. I recall it because it was very popular on social media, the videos were so funny. Oh sorry, the color? Blue, it was blue and he was wearing gray Chinos, I don’t remember the color of his shoes, Sorry."
Cami’s voice ran in her head and she took a deep breath again. The blue Dare Me to It t-shirt was her gift to him last week. She had been joking but he had really worn it over his gray Chinos and brown loafers.
It could be a coincidence. Right?
Ethan moved to Davenport six months ago.
It could be another coincidence, right?
That image in the drawing that was vaguely familiar was looking more and more like Ethan with each passing second.
He loved hearing about her work as a police officer. It was what made him so different from her other boyfriend, no matter how grim the story was, he would listen with that kindness in his eyes.
It could be a coincidence. It really could be.
She rubbed her hands together, she was feeling cold and a little sluggish, like she just run a million miles.
And those mornings that he left early or had to work nights at the hospital. The dates appeared in her head. He worked at night once every week and in the morning, a dead body was found on a sidewalk.
Lisa shook her head several times; her heart thumped so hard she felt like it would jump out of her chest.
That was just crazy, then all the doctors that took the night shift with him on those days, would they all be killers as well? She was a police officer, surely she would have noticed something.
Just ask him.
She reached out for her phone, she wanted to call Ravi. They had been partners for so long but before she could dial him, an incoming phone call came in.
Babe was written across her screen.
The inexplicable fear struck her heart, making her hair stand up and her back grow cold. She picked up the phone, "Which one do you want, crunchy, spicy, or honey sesame wings? I am about to order. Are you almost here? Or do you want to stop at the restaurant and pick it up? Is that the sound of the elevator, they still would not repair that clicking button." Towards the end, Ethan chuckled, his voice was still as kind and gentle as she remembered.
Right. There must be a reasonable explanation. Lisa stepped out of the elevator and stopped in front of the door. She reached into her pockets for her keys.
Weird. Did she forget them at the police station? She had never done that before.
The door suddenly swung open and Ethan smiled at her, "Welcome home, Lili."
