I Am the Sweetheart of Mr. CEO-Chapter 677: Living People Are More Important (3)
Vera Wave took the soup from Aya Stewart, taking small sips as Bailey Hansen stood up.
"Go ahead and eat. I’ll go check on your grandfather so he won’t worry. Once you’re done eating, just set it aside, and I’ll come up to collect it!"
She turned towards the door, and Vera lifted her face.
"Mom!"
Bailey stopped and turned to look at her.
"Thank you," the young girl said earnestly.
"Don’t be so formal with me. Just drink your soup!"
Bailey walked out, smiling and closing the door behind her.
Vera looked into the bowl of soup. Instead of using a spoon, she tilted the bowl to her lips and drank it all in large gulps.
After drinking a large bowl of hot soup, she seemed to regain her energy. She got out of bed, changed into a fresh set of clothes, went into the bathroom, washed her face, brushed her teeth, and meticulously applied a light layer of makeup.
Gazing at her reflection for a moment, she picked up her bag and went downstairs.
Bailey was serving soup to the old gentleman when she saw Vera and asked in surprise, "Where are you going?"
"Mom, I have to go out for a bit."
"Do you want me to arrange for a driver?"
"No need!"
"Then be careful on the road. Remember to take your phone with you, and call home if anything happens."
"Okay."
She responded, grabbed the car keys, and left through the main door.
She drove Kris Cooper’s car out of the residential area, headed to the outskirts of the city, and arrived at her father’s grave.
She placed the bouquet of flowers she had brought before her father’s gravestone, then knelt and gently stroked the tombstone.
"Dad! I’m here today to tell you how truly sorry I am! I... I really can’t leave Kris. If he loses me, he’ll go crazy!" Vera’s lips trembled. "Back then, I vowed before your grave that I would revitalize Walter Wave Real Estate. I’ve failed as a daughter..."
Family ties and love; she couldn’t have both.
She could leave Kris Cooper, but what about him? Six years ago, when she left, he almost lost his mind. If she left him again, could he bear it?
He didn’t do anything wrong; he shouldn’t be punished...
"If you really want to, I can help you."
Nathan Leafcastle’s voice came from behind her.
Vera turned her face to see Nathan Leafcastle holding a bouquet of flowers.
"Brother Nathan?!"
He came over and placed the flowers in front of Walter Wave’s tombstone. Nathan turned his face and looked at her.
"I came to help my mother prepare the grave and, while I was at it, visit Uncle Wave. Don’t worry. This time, I will definitely help you. Everything the Cooper family did to you and Uncle Wave, I’ll make them pay it all back!"
Vera’s heart tightened. "What... what are you going to do?"
Nathan drew a deep breath, his voice filled with a chilling coldness. "I will get revenge on them. I will send Kris Cooper to jail, I will bankrupt Ashton, and I will make Christopher Cooper taste what it’s like to be destitute!"
"Brother Nathan!" Vera nervously grabbed his arm. "Didn’t I already tell you? Things aren’t like what you think!"
Nathan squinted his eyes and stared at her. "Even now, you’re still speaking up for him?"
"It’s not that I’m speaking up for him. I’m serious."
"Shut up!" Nathan raised his hand, pointing to the tombstone beside her. "Look at the person here—he’s your father! You might not have known before, but now you clearly understand who caused him to end up here. Yet you’re asking me to let Kris Cooper off and even covering up for him?"
"Brother Nathan, I really didn’t..."
"I know!" Nathan gripped her shoulders. "They forced you, right?"
