The bullet raced toward Qiao Suisui, and Ruka, standing opposite still holding the gun, looked like he was about to explode.

In the blink of an eye, Zong Fang didn’t have time to think. Ignoring his wound, he lunged forward, throwing himself on top of her with the inertia of his body, pressing her down heavily.

Simultaneously, Carl saw his chance from another direction and decisively opened fire in Zong Fang’s direction.

"Are you fucking mad! Who told you to shoot!"

Ruka kicked the gun out of Carl’s hand and, grabbing his collar, hoisted him up and threw him against the door frame. Carl grunted upon impact and narrowed his eyes at him.

"Not shoot and wait for him to jump up and blast you?"

When Carl had fired, Qiao Suisui had been in Zong Fang’s arms. If there had been any deviation, she would have been hit. Ruka’s face twisted with anger as he dashed over to Qiao Suisui without bothering to waste another word on Carl.

Only when he drew near did he notice the blood spreading across the floor, dark and thick.

Qiao Suisui found herself pinned underneath Zong Fang. She hadn’t expected such a situation as soon as she emerged, and by the time she realized what was happening, Zong Fang had already leaped over. She called out his name, but the person on top of her didn’t react. She tried to shift her upper body to check on him but felt something sticky when her hand touched the floor.

"Suisui, Suisui, don’t scare me, are you alright? Are you hurt?"

Ruka lifted her from underneath Zong Fang and saw the blood all over her lower back, his face turning ashen with fear.

"It’s not my blood... Zong Fang..."

As she spoke, she turned to look at the man lying motionless on the ground. His arm was twisted unnaturally, palm facing up, and the stain of blood was expanding under him, forming a small pool, with half his face completely soaked in blood, his eyes closed tightly.

Seeing this made Qiao Suisui’s breath catch, and she wanted to check on him, but Ruka stopped her by holding her waist.

"I’ll do it."

He patted her hair and then stood up to squat beside Zong Fang. He saw a gunshot wound near Zong Fang’s shoulder blade—it was Carl’s shot. Ruka rolled Zong Fang’s heavy body over to check and found the bleeding point, which was below the third rib on the side. This shot had likely been fired by Ruka himself, and judging by the trajectory and wound location, it must have hit Zong Fang as he did not have time to adjust his body while protecting Suisui.

"Neither bullet hit a vital spot," Ruka announced after checking and walked back, with no intention of tending to the man on the ground. He comforted Qiao Suisui, "Last time at the Imperial Court, when it was one-on-one between him and me, his wounds healed quickly. He should not die."

Qiao Suisui froze and hesitantly asked, "What if he no longer has the self-healing Talent?"

Ruka looked at her anxiously glancing towards Zong Fang and his jaw tensed involuntarily as he murmured, "Then it’s up to his fate."

What followed was orderly under Ruka’s direction; medical team personnel carried Zong Fang away and fastened an enhanced electronic lock around his neck to prevent his escape.

As Ruka carried Qiao Suisui to the battleship, they passed a man with red short hair and an eyebrow piercing. Ruka stopped and told him the mission was complete, but the man didn’t respond, simply leaning on the door frame with crossed arms and raising an eyebrow to show he heard.

Clearing team members bustled about, while Carl still stood motionless where he was, watching as Ruka carried the petite female to the steps of the battleship, set her down gently, and called for medical personnel to check on her. He stood by her the entire time, his actions tender.

Carl chewed his gum as he watched Qiao Suisui, saw her politely thanking the medical staff, saw her gently pull at the man’s sleeve and speak to him looking up, saw her delicate face frowning with worry and annoyance—a sight of distress.

What’s to worry about? She had been rescued, and he hadn’t hit her either.

As he pondered this, he saw the little female look his way, their gazes colliding.

’Pop—’

The bubble suddenly burst, leaving a sticky mess on Carl’s face.

He turned red, feeling foolish in that moment, and headed inside without looking back.

On the other side, Ruka let out a sigh of relief when he heard the medical staff say that Qiao Suisui had no external injuries.

"What are you looking at?"

"My house...."

She looked at her two-story building with a worried expression; it seemed almost like a trench when she had come out, hardly inhabitable.

Ruka paused, thinking she would be worried about Zong Fang, or at least inquire about where he would be taken and how he would be treated. He hadn’t expected her to be solely focused on this remote house.

The man couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief, the tension dissipating somewhat.

"Do you like this place?"

"Mhm."

"I’ll get someone to fix it, it seems quite old, and this could be a good opportunity to renovate it. What style do you like? You can choose whatever you want, okay?"

Qiao Suisui’s eyes immediately sparkled, "I do have some ideas... Thank you, Ruka."

The man kissed the corner of her eyes, whispering, "You never have to thank me; these are all things I want to do."

He wanted to thank her for accepting these small things he did for her, as they made Ruka’s heart feel like it had found a place to rest.

On the way back, Ruka didn’t ask her what she and Zong Fang had done, nor did he inquire about her pregnancy. He simply briefed her on some issues that had arisen in Auslan during the days she had been away.

"The Emperor is critically ill? So suddenly?"

Qiao Suisui was somewhat surprised. She had seen him with Lanze before leaving and he had seemed in good spirits then, very talkative, without any signs of illness.

Ruka was also skeptical, saying, "Father has already gone to the Imperial Court, and the heads of other major families will also make their visits in succession. It is said that the Crown Prince has been summoned back as well, seeing this situation... it seems Auslan’s Sun is about to change rulers."

"So sudden?"

She felt there was something fishy about the whole situation and couldn’t help but frown in thought, finally asking, "Does Ash know Zong Fang came looking for me?"

"He does. It was he who asked Carl to assist me."

Knowing but not appearing was not Leberli’s style. Qiao Suisui didn’t mean to emphasize her importance to him, but his absence in such times was in stark contrast to the Leberli who used to hover around her whether there was a reason or not.

A person does not change in a short period of time, unless something has happened, or... she had never really known the real Leberli.

"By the way, where is Lanze? He told you I was here, right? Why didn’t I see him just now?"

Ruka pursed his lips, hesitated for a moment, wondering how to break the news to her gently.

"Lanze... he’s been injured and is currently undergoing treatment."

"Is it serious? Did Zong Fang hurt him?"

Ruka nodded, cupped her face, and kissed her, "Suisui, you should be prepared. Lanze might not be able to stand up again."

Upon hearing this, Qiao Suisui felt her heart tighten, and she dared not ask any further, remaining silent on the way back to the Imperial Court. The first thing she did upon arrival was to visit Lanze.
