Chapter 175 -175 Ruins Eye

Zong Fang clearly didn’t believe her, and his way of verifying was very direct— he bit his own wrist on the spot and, seeing that the wound indeed did not heal, he showed the most genuine smile he had in many days.

No matter how much Qiao Suisui coaxed afterward, the man refused to comply.

She had thought that transferring the self-healing ability to herself would set Zong Fang at ease, but the next day, she realized he was still very tense.

“No bleeding, right?”

For the fifth time, she answered him, “No, Zong Fang, don’t worry. An occasional miss doesn’t matter.”

Zong Fang frowned and said, “I can’t trust a word you say.”

Fortunately, he had forcibly restrained himself the day before, and hadn’t let her lead him astray; otherwise, he would definitely have felt self-reproach today.

Qiao Suisui sat at the breakfast table, swinging her feet, wanting to gloss over the matter, but then she heard the man ask ominously, “Besides self-healing, what other talents have you had?”

Her hand holding the bread stiffened. Wow, was this a reckoning after the autumn harvest? Wasn’t this essentially him asking if she had done this with anyone else?

Qiao Suisui chuckled awkwardly and said, “No, really, that’s the only one.”

Zong Fang’s eyes seemed to smile but not smile, and it was unclear whether he believed her or not. But after this matter, both of them tacitly avoided mentioning it again. She refrained from bringing it up for fear of a misunderstanding leading to complications, while Zong Fang avoided it because he truly wanted to turn a blind eye; some things are better not known as they would only sour his mood. There was nothing he could do regarding her.

That day, Sang Yan suggested they go for a drive. After she alerted Carl and Zong Fang, she left the house.

She had thought they would take the Flying Ship, but as she stepped out, she saw a dragon parked in the yard.

No, not a dragon-cart.

A dragon.

Sang Yan’s wings unfurled, instantly covering the sky as if sheltering it from the sun.

It was Qiao Suisui’s first encounter with a dragon. She looked up, entranced. This wasn’t the image of the Eastern dragon she had seen in her textbooks but rather resembled the Western fantasy world’s depiction of dragons. His body was covered with thick scales, each scale like a delicately crafted piece of armor, glinting metallically under the sun. Those expansive wings, strong and vast like enormous canvases, covered half of the sky. Every beat of his wings sent a deep rumble through the air. His claws were as sharp as blades, seemingly capable of easily crushing rock. His tail was long and powerful, with a sharp bone spike at the end.

She hesitated to approach, but in the next second, the dragon lowered its head and gently bowed down in front of her. As he swept his tail tip over, Qiao Suisui settled in place, then with slow and deliberate movements, he lifted her onto his back.

Holding onto the scales on his back, she stood very steadily, as though atop a high mountain peak, her vision dramatically broadened.

Zong Fang was worried and intended to follow, but Carl stopped him.

“Let her relax a bit; Sang Yan won’t let her get hurt.”

Zong Fang watched her laughing openly, her eyes sparkling with vitality, a rare sight, so he swallowed down his worries.

Sang Yan carried Qiao Suisui flying above the Freedom Alliance, wind blowing from all directions, as if washing away all her troubles. She closed her eyes, feeling the caress of the wind and the tremors brought by the flapping of dragon wings.

She saw towering mountains, like the fingers of giants pointing straight to the sky, majestic and imposing. The mountaintops were even covered with snow that glinted dazzlingly under the sunlight.

Her hair was tousled by the wind, but she didn’t mind; she just wanted to shout out loud, feeling her spirit completely merging with the vast expanse of the Freedom Alliance.

Looking down, the vast forest appeared like a sea of green. The sunlight made the treetops glitter, and the breeze rustled through the leaves. The rivers, like ribbons of silver, meandered and twisted. The surface of the water, under the sun, sparkled like countless diamonds, and the flow of the water babbled on.

Excited, Qiao Suisui pointed towards the distance, constantly exclaiming, “Sang Yan, what’s that over there? And what about over there?” After asking, she remembered that he couldn’t talk right now, so only the dragon’s roars responded to her. Sang Yan took her flying over mountains and rivers, sometimes high, sometimes low.

His speed was not fast, in fact, it was quite gentle, but she still found it exhilarating.

During the flight, Qiao Suisui suddenly noticed a huge crack on the ground, seemingly bottomless, as if the earth were cleft in two. Pointing at the crack, she asked, “Sang Yan, is this the Ruins Eye?”

Sang Yan let out a roar, indicating his response.

“Can we get closer to have a look?”

Sang Yan slightly adjusted the angle of his wings and descended slowly, bringing Qiao Suisui closer to the massive fissure. As they lowered their altitude, Qiao Suisui could clearly see the uneven rocks at the edge of the fissure, as if they had been torn and battered by countless tectonic movements.

She gazed into the depths of the crack, faintly seeing a shimmer of blue-purple light, as if it were an endless abyss, hiding unknown secrets.

Did Lanze come and go here? How did he do it? And why did he enter? What’s down there?

She leaned further down, directing Sang Yan to move even closer. Their altitude kept decreasing, nearly flying right along the edge of the Great Rift Valley. It was then that Qiao Suisui suddenly saw her hands and body blur momentarily.

Thinking her eyes were playing tricks on her, she widened her eyes and looked at her hands. A few seconds later, her hands disappeared and reappeared like skipped frames of pixels.

“What’s happening….”

Sang Yan, sensing something was amiss, soared upward, flying back into the high sky. The frame-dropping phenomenon did not occur again.

Qiao Suisui frowned as she looked down at the Great Rift Valley, her eyes full of confusion.

Meanwhile, at the very bottom of the rift canyon, Lanze stood in an endless darkness, surrounded by silence so profound he could hear only his own heartbeat.

In the distance, the light and shadow of a door faintly appeared ahead, like a sinister lighthouse guiding him forward. He took step after step toward that door.

As he drew closer, Lanze sensed that there seemed to be a blurry figure inside the door.

The outline of the figure overlapped perfectly with his own, the shape identical, as if it were his reflection in a mirror.

Lanze’s steps abruptly halted, and his spiritual power, like eyes, vibrated as it shot toward the person inside that door.

He ‘saw’ that the person’s features were identical to his own, but the face bore the marks of years, as if it were him several decades later.

In an instant, the darkness around him seemed to come to life, slowly closing in on him. His absurd suspicion at that moment received a confirmed answer. The old man who swept the floors in the church was just this person in disguise, and this person… was it himself?!

He stared fixedly at the figure, trying to discern more details. The figure inside the door also seemed to be watching him.

“You came after all.” said the person inside the door.

Lanze instinctively stepped back, but the door and the figure still shadowed him closely.

Was this an illusion, or was it real?

He tried to reach out and touch the door, but as soon as his fingers touched the surface of the door, they passed through as if through nothing.

“It’s useless. These are two worlds.”

“What do you mean?” Lanze suppressed his grandeur, stared intensely at the person inside, and asked, “Who exactly are you? Why did you tell me those things before? Why can’t I have foreknowledge now?”

The person inside the door showed a nostalgic smile, excitedly asked, “Did you succeed? Did you stop her from leaving that world?”

Lanze’s brows furrowed, puzzled, “What are you talking about?”

But the person inside just looked at him smiling, “I understand you. Just by telling you those words, you would undoubtedly try to change fate because you can’t accept it, even if she ends up hating you. At least… at least you won’t end up like me, living in a world without her, mired in endless waiting….”

“Who are ‘her’ you’re referring to?” Lanze advanced swiftly, attempting to drag him out from behind the door, but his hand only waved through a wisp of shadow.

“Go back. Cherish the world where you have her.”
