I Am Cultivating in the Apocalypse-Chapter 1018 - 1017: Assigning a Position to Uncle—Uncle Gets Promoted Too!
Everything was arranged for the Jing family, and as Jing Shu was the only family member left by her mother’s side, she certainly needed arrangements as well. This time, an important responsibility was entrusted to Uncle.
Since the migration, Uncle’s status has risen dramatically, his influence growing heavier, and his authority naturally becoming greater.
After half a year as the deputy general manager of the Cigarette Factory, Uncle was very busy, coming home very late to the new apartment where he lived with his family—a two-bedroom, one-living room place that was quite luxurious by factory standards, much to Aunt’s satisfaction.
Even though they didn’t bring any gifts when they came, Aunt was very happy. She knew there were rumors rife in the factory that the boss might start another plant, and wouldn’t that mean her husband could rise even higher?
It must be said, surviving so comfortably in the apocalypse is all thanks to Miss Jing.
As soon as Jing Shu and Mrs. Jing entered the house, Aunt warmly welcomed them.
"Sister-in-law, sit down, don’t tire yourself. We’ll chat for a bit and then leave," Mrs. Jing said with a smile, straightening her back. The grievances she had with her sister-in-law from earlier years had gradually faded, and she felt more at peace.
"How can that be? Here, have some milk tea. Jing Shu, eat some candy. Factory folks say there’s a simulated list being drawn these days about reopening a brewery, many employees are inquiring about it, wanting a transfer, but who knows if it’s true—" Aunt couldn’t keep a secret, speaking her thoughts right out.
Uncle nudged her, "Don’t take wind as rain, it’s just a survey. And even if it turns true, it’s all up to Miss Jing. Don’t think about shoving your brother and sister-in-law in there."
Even when exposed, Aunt didn’t get angry. Years ago, her temperament would have flared with hands on hips, yelling at Uncle, "All your family are soft; without someone like me to keep an eye out, you would have been eaten with nothing left!"
But over the years, even her brother’s family in office had to rely on her husband and Miss Jing. Just yesterday, her brother begged her to find a job for his niece, something like at the Cigarette Factory, ideally even at the brewery. So she sat quietly to one side.
Jing Shu smiled and nodded at Uncle, "Since they’re already simulating lists and investigating interested people, then it’s true. The brewery and detergent factory might open next week—"
Jing Shu briefly described the situation there.
Aunt’s breath quickened. "Oh my, so many vacancies in South Sea, over a thousand! Does this mean Su Long could get in?"
Uncle glared at his wife, "Even with many vacancies and connections, you still must pass assessments. That brat will only get in after passing exams. Family dishes ought to be handled strict!"
Aunt was about to say something but saw a head behind the door, which made her burst out, "You rascal, come here! Just a few sets of procedures, and you still can’t memorize them, do you know how many people outside want in so badly they’ve memorized the tests inside out without opportunities!
And you? You’ve got a route from the start, just need to pass the assessments to work in the factory—"
Jing Shu hadn’t seen the cousin in a long time; Da Long’s once frail appearance had vanished, turning into a sturdy young man—a sign of decent apocalypse-era nutrition.
"If you could leak some exam content ahead—" Before he could finish, Uncle chased after him with a shoe sole, "I’ll beat you to death, you ungrateful brat!"
After the chaotic chase, Uncle wiped his sweat and spoke to Jing Shu with resignation, "When you were his age, you had already started understanding and building a career, alas."
Jing Shu laughed, "Uncle, now that there’s no university in the apocalypse, at his age he ought to start getting some experience. I think since you’re overseeing North China and Western China and have been promoted to General Manager of the North China Region, equipped with Hulk and two secretaries, you might as well bring him along to get some training. Idle kids benefit from some hardship."
Su Long’s eyes brightened, "Dad, I’d like to travel too." Even just tagging along, lacking pay and salary, but at least he could ride Hulk for free. Besides, his dad was promoted again!
Aunt finally laughed out loud, very good indeed, promoted again! In charge of several factories!
Uncle hesitated a bit. He wanted to take the kid out to see the world, but bringing Da Long meant bringing the wife.
Jing Shu added, "It’s fine to bring Aunt along too, as transporting beer and coordinating deliveries take majorly road time."
Third Aunt had helicopter pickup, East China factories were dense, but Uncle’s line sprawled longer, using Hulk’s help. Uncle certainly wasn’t an Ascetic Monk traveling alone; taking family reduces long-awaited meetings.
Entrusted tasks for Uncle would be harder, having Aunt manage daily logistics, preparing meals, handling small affairs, makes things easier for Uncle.
"Alright, I’ll keep an eye on them both."
After arranging Uncle’s affairs, Aunt gleefully started packing, leaving Mrs. Jing completely satisfied and chattering happily with Uncle.
Jing Shu didn’t interrupt their conversation, having her own matters to attend to. She took Hulk to South Sea Town Hall, awaiting the boss’s signatures on a stack of documents.
