Hunter of Mysterious Creature-Chapter 424 - 57: Another Face
"Let's go, let's go." Lilith clapped her hands above her head. "We'd better finish things here before this waste pool melts... Tch, I don't want to be a human ice machine again."
"Do you want to... rest for a while?" Jiang Yu asked.
She suddenly had a bad feeling.
"No, let's hurry up." Lilith strode towards the open door of Factory No. 5. After a few steps, she suddenly turned her head to look at Jiang Yu and Ling Xiao. "I've made plans with my supervisor to go steam sauna after work... Do you two want to join us?"
"Steam sauna?" Jiang Yu was taken aback. "But isn't all public bathhouses closed in Tianfu City now? Where are you guys..."
"Just use the Hunter's license to borrow a sauna room at some bathhouse. Everything's already set up, and as for the energy supply, it's just a snap of my fingers! How about it? Want to join? Let me tell you, after a mission, all sweaty, going for a sauna is wonderful..."
"Uh... I'd better pass." Just thinking about how this red-haired witch used to be a man made Jiang Yu feel awkward...
If they really went to a bathhouse, would this guy go to the men's or women's section?
"Let's complete the mission first," Ling Xiao said coldly. He sheathed the "Godslaying Spear" and then picked up a broken limb of a fluorescent spider from the ground.
This broken limb was about thirty centimeters long, slightly thicker than chopsticks, with a cross-section showing an irregular octagon. Apart from the sharp tips and a small row of barbed serrations near the tip, the surface of the segment was smooth, almost giving a sense of "lustrous as jade." The grip might not be good, but at least it was quite comfortable.
"You plan to use this as a weapon?" Lilith glanced at Ling Xiao and asked. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
Ling Xiao swung the spider's limb towards the lamppost beside him, the sharp tip instantly cut a smooth-edged slit into the metal post without any pause or sense of obstruction.
"Tch, pretty sharp." Lilith nodded. "Feels like you can toss away that standard-issue dagger of yours."
Speaking, Lilith had already stepped into Factory No. 5.
A layer of light golden shield enveloped her entirely.
Though Lilith always gave off a carefree vibe, she was, after all, a seasoned Hunter... If she really was as unreliable and careless as she seemed, no matter how strong her abilities were, she wouldn't have survived until now.
If Jiang Yu and Ling Xiao were to check Lilith's file, they'd be shocked to find... this "female" Hunter who looks to be in her twenties has publicly accessible mission records dating back 75 years.
Excluding those missions sealed for various reasons, Lilith's completed missions exceed three hundred. Even if Candle Dragon was here, they'd respectfully call her "senior."
"Safe," Lilith stomped the metal floor with her boot heel. "You two can come in now."
Jiang Yu and Ling Xiao kept vigilant on the left and right sides respectively, taking turns covering as they entered the factory.
"Your tactical moves are completely substandard," Lilith casually commented. "Even as newcomers, you shouldn't be this bad, right?"
"Huh?" Jiang Yu was puzzled, "We followed the standard moves in CQB lessons... Why are they substandard?"
"CQB? Who taught you CQB?" Lilith asked.
(Note: CQB, Close Quarter Battle, acronym for indoor close-range combat.)
"Emergency Tactical Unit in Tianfu City..." Jiang Yu replied, "They're supposed to be among the strongest special forces in Tianfu City, right?"
"Emergency Tactical Unit? Ha," Lilith chuckled dismissively, "That group might be okay against kidnappers and KB members, but when it comes to dealing with mysterious creatures, they're nothing more than assistants... The CQB tactics they taught you aren't suitable for Mysterious Creature Hunters."
"Why?" Ling Xiao immediately asked.
"When you two came in, one was focused on the left, the other on the right, eyes mostly on those room windows and doors, then focusing on the skirting board near the ground... But do you think a mysterious creature would poke a gun barrel out a window to shoot you, or would they set up trip wires on the ground? Lilith gestured on her head with her right hand. "Do you know what you overlooked? Right above you! Right overhead! Damn it, it's always 'CT never looks up!'"
Being pointed out by Lilith, Jiang Yu and Ling Xiao finally looked up, and what they saw shocked Jiang Yu—inside the dome of Factory No. 5 was covered with a layer of membrane. The surface of this membrane was covered with numerous bubbles, rhythmically pulsating like breathing. Through the semi-transparent membrane of the bubbles, something seemed to be curled up inside.
Near the entrance, the bubbles had already burst, the internal mucus dripped down, coagulating and hardening mid-air, forming a scenery akin to stalactites.
"Wha... what are these?" Jiang Yu was horrified.
With these membranes and bubbles as a backdrop, Factory No. 5 seemed like it had been transformed into the nest of some alien creature... Moreover, the kind that made one's scalp tingle—the "living nest."
