Chapter 393: Chapter 40: 0% Synchronization

"Yeah, it’s quite a pity." The Exorcist said nonchalantly, "After I die, this thing will probably just end up stored in a freezer—by the way, is this thing ready to start working?"

The Exorcist pointed to the collection device not far away.

All the indicator lights on the control panel had turned green.

"Almost forgot, this thing needs to be manually started..." Sun Hang waved his hand, and two Fungus Puppets immediately walked to the operation position of the collection device.

Several red lasers shot out from the front end of the device, marking the spot on the surface of the giant cocoon, followed by a large hammer starting to spin rapidly, gradually approaching the giant cocoon.

"I thought it was a pile driver, turns out it’s actually a drill?" Sun Hang muttered.

"Will this thing really penetrate the giant cocoon?" The Exorcist asked doubtfully, "Even a nuclear bomb couldn’t break it open, can this drill really do it?"

"That’s something you’ll need to ask the tech staff at the research institute," Sun Hang shrugged, "If it can’t drill through, we’ll just evacuate, it’s not our responsibility anyway."

"Then my two fingers would have been wasted." The Exorcist looked down at his hand, "I hope those tech staff understand the situation..."

The hammer—or rather drill—from the collection device finally rested against the surface of the giant cocoon. There was no harsh friction noise, no deafening impact or explosion sound, and not even the expected spark or scattering debris.

The surface of the giant cocoon seemed to liquefy, instantly collapsing a small section, allowing the drill from the collection device to pass through with no resistance.

"What...what kind of black technology is this?" The Exorcist said in shock, "The smoothness is a bit unexpected."

"I don’t know either, but the drill of this collection device is itself a Deceitful Equipment, maybe it just happens to restrain Chimera 17..." Sun Hang glanced at the "Mysterious Creature Battery" embedded in the slot. It seemed that the eel-like mysterious creature within the battery had melted into the "battery liquid", leaving only small cotton-like debris floating in the liquid.

"Collection operation in progress..." A line of text appeared on the screen of the control panel, "Estimated time remaining: 554 seconds." 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

"Not bad, less than ten minutes," Sun Hang said to the Exorcist, "Within acceptable range."

"But Chimera 17 apparently can’t accept this." The Exorcist lowered his voice, "There’s something approaching again...just like the big guy from earlier, all of them are Spiritual Body Type Mysterious Creatures."

"How do you know?" Sun Hang was taken aback, even he hadn’t sensed any new mysterious creature presence...could the Exorcist’s perceptive ability be superior to his own?

"I don’t know, but it can feel it." The Exorcist patted the box standing on the ground, and only then did Sun Hang notice that the box containing the Mysterious Creature Shotgun was slightly trembling, and several talismans on the box’s surface had already fallen off.

These talismans burned into a small pile of ashes as soon as they hit the ground.

"Seems two fingers aren’t enough." The Exorcist shook his head helplessly and tore off the remaining talismans, once again retrieving that Mysterious Creature Shotgun.

Sun Hang suddenly realized he could sense the "emotions" of the Mysterious Creature Shotgun—tension, excitement, extreme bloodlust, and a frantic hunger for flesh...using a more mystical term, it seemed a violent spirit resided within the shotgun, with a high probability that this spirit was a former follower of Khorne.

The emotion from the shotgun was much stronger than before—when the Exorcist first used it in Sun Hang’s presence, he hadn’t detected its anomaly, but now it seemed to abandon its disguise entirely.

"Something’s not right." The Exorcist murmured.

"You mean your gun?" Sun Hang asked.

"How did you know?" The Exorcist was surprised, "Normally, people would think I’m talking about the approaching mysterious creatures, right?"

"Because I smell something off from the gun." Sun Hang said.

"It’s excited." The Exorcist said bluntly, "It rarely exhibits this level of excitement."

"Is excitement a good thing?" Sun Hang asked.

"When excited, its lethality against spirit bodies will increase significantly, but it will also devour more flesh." Explained the Exorcist, "Last time it got this excited, I fed it an arm and two legs to satisfy it."

The Exorcist said, glancing at her bracelet.

Her bracelet was different from a typical Hunter’s bracelet; aside from displaying Hunter information, it also showed the synchronization rate with Deceitful Equipment in real time.

"Synchronization rate has risen to 69%." The Exorcist said, "It’s a pity communications are disrupted here, otherwise those monitoring my status would be going crazy now."

Finally, after a delay of almost two minutes, Sun Hang also sensed the approaching mysterious creatures.

Countless figures appeared in the rain, staggering and stumbling toward them, resembling drunken zombies.

Judging by the silhouettes, Sun Hang could vaguely guess their identities.

These people were likely the tragic souls of victims from the Qiang Clan villages.

"They’re Purgatory Ghosts." The Exorcist said, "I can sense strong resentment...these spirits were all harmed by Chimera 17 while alive, and became its slaves after death, used as tools for evil, just like what’s described."

"The number might be in the thousands." Sun Hang nodded.

"Four hundred seconds left, I may not be able to hold them off for that long." The Exorcist loaded a shell into the gun, "If you don’t have means to deal with Spiritual Body Type Mysterious Creatures, I suggest you leave now. I might be able to buy you a minute."

"If you fire another shot, you’ll die." Sun Hang said, "Just one shot and your remaining flesh will be completely devoured. You won’t even last ten seconds."

"Hasn’t it already been ten seconds?" The Exorcist gave a menacing smile with her half-remained facial tissue, capable of frightening children, "You better run already!"

"Give me the gun." Sun Hang extended his hand towards her.

"What did you say?" The Exorcist widened her eyes, wondering if her artificial cochlear implant had malfunctioned in the heavy rain, causing her to mishear.

"I’m asking you to give me the shotgun, your Deceitful Equipment, am I clear enough now?" Sun Hang reiterated.

"What are you going to do?!"

"This gun needs a lot of flesh to devour, you can’t satisfy it." Sun Hang stated.

"But you’re not a suitable host! This is Deceitful Equipment, only suitable hosts can use it!" The Exorcist questioned.

"You’ve never tried, so how would you know I can’t adapt to this equipment?" Sun Hang glanced at her wrist, "If you don’t believe me, lend me your bracelet."

"Stop joking. If you don’t want to leave, then help me take down these Purgatory Ghosts!" The Exorcist said angrily.

"As far as I know, I don’t have effective means against Spiritual Body Type Mysterious Creatures, so I’ll need to borrow yours." Before he finished speaking, the shotgun already fell into Sun Hang’s hand.

"Are you insane?! Give me back the gun!"

"Give me the bracelet." Sun Hang weighed the shotgun, hearing the spirit inside shout in ecstasy.

"You plan to test your synchronization rate at a time like this?" The Exorcist said, yet she removed the bracelet and tossed it to Sun Hang.

Sun Hang wore the bracelet on his other wrist, and in the next moment, the synchronization rate between him and the Deceitful Equipment appeared.

"0%"
