Hunter of Mysterious Creature-Chapter 385 - 36: Stress Response_2
He was frozen in place.
"I reckon you’re probably beyond saving," Sun Hang said, pulling out his pistol, chambering a round.
"No... don’t... save me..."
"I’m not a doctor, and I have little interest in researching anomalies or the infected," Sun Hang shook his head. "My mission is to collect meme samples of Chimera 17, and saving people is not part of it. As for the rescue team, this location is too deep, they can’t make it here."
"Save me..."
"This is the only thing I can do for you now," Sun Hang said, raising his pistol.
"Bang bang! Bang!"
The standard Mozambique Drill, the first two shots targeted the left and right chest, followed by a swift shot to the head.
But just as Sun Hang fired, the manta ray-like anomaly suddenly detached, releasing itself from the Hunter’s body.
It glided a short distance in the air by spreading its wings and then burrowed into the mud.
Yet, in the next second, its body floated back to the mud’s surface, along with hundreds of mycelium piercing through its body.
While Sun Hang was conversing with the Hunter, he had already set a trap with Taotie’s mycelium— centered around where the two were standing, the mycelium woven net had a radius of fifty meters, and if necessary, could double its size in half a second.
Sun Hang quickly devoured the manta ray anomaly—surprisingly, the seemingly inconspicuous anomaly possessed two rather interesting abilities.
The first ability was parasitic, as the name suggests, Sun Hang could parasitize onto other creatures, absorbing nutrients through the host’s blood... and besides blood, it could also absorb memes. However, in terms of efficiency, it was much inferior to Taotie.
But after all, Taotie is a top ten "super anomaly" with devouring as its primary ability. If its signature move were to be surpassed by some random minor anomaly, then Taotie might as well go smash itself to death with tofu.
As for the other ability, to Sun Hang, it was far more useful than parasitism.
"Hallucination."
This anomaly can reverse-feed the absorbed blood and memes back to the host, transforming them into an almost indomitable "hallucinogen"—since the modified blood and memes originate from the host, their body shows no "rejection response"... the host wouldn’t even realize their consciousness was being interfered with, and from the host’s perspective, even the most abnormal information would seem normal... Over time, this "hallucinogen" could thoroughly distort the host’s perception, turning a person completely insane.
Most intriguingly for Sun Hang, was that this ability is not suppressed by meme hierarchy.
This means that even if the target is an immensely powerful primordial anomaly, as long as he can successfully parasitize and "steal" memes from it, Sun Hang could use this "hallucination" ability to control a primordial anomaly.
This is a dangerous act... A primordial anomaly under hallucination can go out of control at any time, and the success rate is nearly zero—but in any case, Sun Hang finally acquired a skill that could pose a "lethal threat" to a primordial anomaly.
A bold idea even popped into his head: next time the Three Monkeys appear, why not try these two skills on them?
If it succeeds...
Sun Hang didn’t think further, as subtly, he felt two cold and piercing gazes.
Why two gazes? Naturally, because one of the three monkeys was covering its eyes.
Sun Hang looked around, but found no trace of the Three Monkeys. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
"What’s this? A warning?"
Fortunately, the feeling of being watched soon vanished, and his newly acquired abilities weren’t erased by some unknown force.
Dragging the Hunter’s corpse to the ground, Sun Hang mounted the hovercraft motorcycle—it must be said, this amphibious vehicle has quite diverse applications; besides water and flat grounds, it’s useful in deserts and swamps too.
Nearly a quarter of the participating Hunters chose this vehicle type.
"I should’ve asked Yang Qi for one as well," Sun Hang thought to himself. "Riding this is definitely more comfortable than clinging to a thrashing dragon’s tail."
This hovercraft still had sixty percent fuel left, Sun Hang twisted the handle, and the engine roared as two tongues of fire shot out from the rear, propelling him and the motorcycle forward.
Regular hovercraft motorcycles use compressed air pumps for propulsion, but this one was different; it was equipped with a rocket engine.
The streamlined nose sliced through the dense rain, Sun Hang tapped on the control panel a few times, turning on the music player.
With the network down, only pre-stored songs could be played... Sun Hang wasn’t sure what department this hovercraft was commandeered from, but overall, the original owner had decent taste in music.
Heavy metal rock perfectly matched the raging storm outside.
Sun Hang turned the volume to maximum, then twisted the throttle to its limit, instantly accelerating to 340 kph, racing across the swamp-like terrain.
The air currents twisted the raindrops’ shapes, forming shockwave cones behind the motorcycle like a jet breaking the sound barrier, and the muddy rain splashed dozens of meters into the air before falling back down.
Soon, Sun Hang spotted the enormous, faintly glowing entity.
"Chimera 17," Sun Hang muttered to himself, "Why did Anna want me to avoid you?"
Sun Hang neither slowed down nor turned off the motorcycle’s audio system as he charged straight at Chimera 17.
A strong sense of danger welled up inside him, Sun Hang could see the phosphorescence on Chimera 17’s surface converging towards one point, he instinctively twisted the handlebars, making the hovercraft perform a 360-degree spin on the mud just as a white-hot beam struck his previous path.
"Cheating, huh? I’m just one person!" Sun Hang protested indignantly, maneuvering the hovercraft in a 20-meter radius circle before aiming it again at Chimera 17.
Meanwhile, Observation Post 7, Frontier Command Center.
"Detected a strong energy reaction!" a technician monitoring Chimera 17 shouted, "Classified as a ’stimulus response’!"
"Can you calculate the strike’s point of impact?" Ye Xuan immediately inquired.
"D15 area, two kilometers from Chimera 17!" another technician reported loudly.
"D15 area..." Ye Xuan quickly approached the holographic display, her slender fingers danced across the virtual keyboard, marking a red route on the holographic map.
"That’s the path planned for the first team, they’re nearing Chimera 17!" an officer said with some excitement.
"It shouldn’t be... We just pulled back Puppet Master and Night Slayer, by the calculus, the first team should only have Sun Hang left... One man, two kilometers, given previous estimates, shouldn’t trigger Chimera 17’s stimulus response!" a puzzled technician remarked.
"Even observed data constantly changes... Previous calculations are long irrelevant." Ye Xuan said, frowning, "Right now, all I want to know is, is Sun Hang still alive?"
