HUNTED-Chapter 417: Under Attack
They were frozen only for one second before Keira pushed Kodi away, her leg dropping, body alert. Any frustrating thoughts wiped clean from her mind as fear and adrenaline sliced through her. It didn’t stop her though, she jumped into action immediately.

Running out of the back exit of the changing rooms towards the field, Kodi close behind her; they stopped and stared. At the far end of campus, the wall that protected students from outsiders such as threats or the media had crumbled down into a heap of scrap metal.
Three trucks full of gunmen drove over the rubble. Men hung on the sides, guns ready, grins wide.
"Keira, get inside," Kodi ordered, his focus on the oncoming threat. He stepped forward, ripping open his shirt and tie, the buttons bursting everywhere.
But when he looked to the side, Keira, unfortunately, did not see this manly display; she’d vanished. "Keira?" Kodi looked to the side.
Keira was already racing past the stands and towards the plumes of smoke beyond the other walls. It was where the first explosion had come from. The only thing in that direction that caused alarm to pound through her body was the younger years school her little sister attended.
"Keira!" She heard Rex call, but her legs wouldn’t stop.
She had to get to Chloe. She had to make sure she was safe!
"You, poser, get inside," Rex growled, pushing Kodi back. "Security will take care of this."
He then chased after the princess while werewolves emerge from shadows of the tree line and jumping straight into battle. Gunshots erupted in the air, but it didn’t stop Keira. She was focused on Chloe.
As she ran, she fumbled through the inside of her jacket pocket and pulled her phone out. Finn was on speed dial. It rang but went straight to voicemail. Keira tried again but he wasn’t answering the phone.
That wasn’t good. Finn always answered the phone!
Ugh! Heat started to course through her body, her heart pounding loudly in her ears. Her breathing grew harsher, and she clutched at her chest. Was this a panic attack? A heart attack?!
Droplets of sweat formed at the back of her neck and forehead. Something wasn’t right. Keira’s fitness was better than this.
Holding onto her phone, Keira removed her blazer, dropping it on the ground, feeling almost feverish.
She made it to one of the gates and ignored the guards there.
"Your Highness, please stand back. The school is under attack-"
"Let me through," Keira commanded them with more power she’d ever felt before reverberating from her throat. It was almost like her voice wasn’t her own.
The guards stepped aside automatically, their gazes slightly vacant as they bowed their heads. She hated using that power, but she knew there was little time! It didn’t matter if it was all in her head or if she was paranoid about her little sister, but her gut was telling her to run to her.
Her mum always said to trust in their gut, in their instinct, it was rarely wrong.
Keira sprinted past them and the barriers, her attention zoning in on the smoke down the road and the sound of screams and gunfire piercing through the air.
"Chloe!" She shouted, and an image flashed across her eyes.
A young Amerie standing in front of Keira, arms spread wide, protectively. But the bad men picked her up and jabbed a syringe in her neck before a sharp pain stung Keira’s neck, and the world went black.
No. That won’t happen. Not to Chloe. I won’t allow it!
A man dressed in black and geared up with weapons, the same attire as the others, rushed out of the trees to her right. He paused for a moment before focusing his attention on Keira, aiming his gun, but Keira had already charged ahead and skidded on the ground, leg swiped out like a football tackle and took him out. She was too quick for human reflexes.
Hopping up, she punched him in the face, knocking him out.
That’s one they could use to interrogate.
She grabbed one of his pistols and checked it for bullets just as something moved in her peripheral. There was another quick movement as she spun around and stared at Kodi. He rose from the ground where another gunman lay in his own blood, Kodi’s claws soaked in blood, the bottom of his steely abdomen splattered in blood, and his eyes feral as he looked back at her.
"Thanks- ugh." Keira’s grip slackened, and the gun clattered to the ground as pain ricocheted across her body. She stumbled into the road, her vision going a little distorted and blurry until her hands and knees hit the ground. What was happening…
"What’s wrong?" Kodi grunted, kneeling beside her. He swept her hair away from her neck. "Did they get you?"
Get me? What was he… Her thoughts scattered as the pain intensified like fire coursing through her veins.
"Keira!" Rex caught up to her and skidded to a stop before barging Kodi away. "What the fuck did you do to her?"
"Me?! She’s-"
"I told you to get inside," Rex snarled, gripping Kodi by the throat. Even though Keira didn’t know Kodi very well, she was pretty sure he was more powerful than Rex. Or maybe she was being a little harsh because the guy was bulkier than her guard. He was a little rough around the edges, typical rogue behaviour, but there was something more simmering beneath all the rage and bad attitude.
"You want to be a part of society… you follow orders and rules," Rex hissed. "It’s for your safety!"
"I only follow my own rules," Kodi scoffed. "I don’t see you telling little miss Princess off here… She almost got herself killed or taken for acting a hero.."
It was all mockery and her temper flared to life. She glared up at him, ignoring that stupid smirk tugging on his delectable lips.
Smirking, Kodi grabbed Rex’s wrist and twisted it away from his throat like he might snap it in half. "I’m not going anywhere. Looks like you. Okay, she wasn’t expecting their strength to be that different-
Ugh.
Kiera squeezed her eyes shut momentarily before forcing them open and glaring at them. Through damp lashes, she inhaled sharply at what she saw behind them.
"Chloe…" She croaked, then cleared her throat in annoyance. "Help Chloe! Not me!"
Rex looked at Keira and then at the men carrying a kicking and screaming Chloe towards a blacked-out SUV. "NOW," Keira roared with command.
Rex’s back straightened, instantly turned around and charged towards the SUV.
Kodi was rigid, glaring at her as his muscles twitched. "I’m only helping because I want to, not because of your royal ass ordering me to."
Whatever! Just do it! She screamed in her mind. Kodi’s brows rose as though he’d heard her thoughts before his usual frown returned, and he turned around to help Rex.
Keira dug her fingers into the ground, wanting to get up and fight those men, but she was incapable of doing anything right then. It was worse than that time she got period cramps and remained in the fetal position for an hour before Manny’s herbal potion kicked in to alleviate the pain.
Keira whimpered, looking up as she watched Rex and Kodi fight men. Chloe was still kicking and punching the man who stopped in his path, hesitating.
Her little sister was in trouble, and all she could do was watch as pain was ripping her muscles apart from the inside out!
Why now?!
’Why not now? It’s the perfect time.’ A voice Keira didn’t yet did recognise resounded in her mind.
She was familiar yet not familiar with it. Oh, for the love of the Goddess! That’s what this is?!
