HUNTED-Chapter 354: God among Men (2)
[ Esme ]
As soon as she felt the tingle down her back and the feeling that Gabriel was nearby, Esme pushed her chair back, uncaring at the noise it created from being flung over. The vampire had been gone too long. It was the longest they’d been apart, sort of. Still, even with her annoyance at his absence, her heart fluttered, and adrenaline coursed through her at seeing him again.
The moment Esme flung open the doors to the packhouse, she paused at seeing Gabriel looking like the mighty, fine-as-hell god before her. Her core clenched, and butterflies fluttered in her stomach at seeing Gabriel dressed like the prince of the underworld. His attire revealing some of his finely sculpted chest did things to her that made her want to jump him then and there.
A smirk lifted his lips as his gaze held hers. "Well, hello there, amica mea. Keep looking at me like that, and I’ll fuck you where you stand." His voice floated through her mind, caressing it even.
Oh, she’d missed the sound of his voice. She’d missed him. Why did it take him so long to return to her?
The she-wolf had begun to think he might be in the underworld for much longer. Time was different there, but she couldn’t remember how it worked. What was the equivalent time of a few weeks on earth to that of the underworld?
Esme arched her brow in challenge to his words as lust darkened her chocolate brown eyes. Gabriel chuckled in response.
"Go to him!" Isana whined, urging Esme forwards. Gabriel stepped forwards, chuckling after hearing her wolf. She would just roll over for him any day.
Esme didn’t need any more encouragement. She just wanted to appreciate his looks a moment longer. She sprinted forwards and leapt towards Gabriel. Arms wrapping around his neck, her legs instantly wrapped around his torso as one arm held her to him under her ass, and the other clutched her body tightly to his.
Lips crashing into each other, Gabriel breathed Esme in, arms tightening around the she-wolf more as her fingers went through his hair, tugging slightly. Her tongue brushed against the points of his fangs, heating her core further, and a slight rumbling sound came from Gabriel’s chest.
Esme pulled away, panting slightly as she stared at her man. Gabriel stared back. The specks of red in his crystal blue eyes burned brightly.
"Don’t ever leave me again," she growled before fiercely kissing his lips again and pulling back.
Gabriel chuckled against her lips and spanked her ass before squishing her bum cheek and sighing, his eyes moving to those behind them. "You know I have no intention of leaving. You’re stuck with me forever," he whispered into her ear, his lips curving into a smile.
Esme released a breathy giggle as she heard Luther behind them, pretending to gag and throw up. Rolling her eyes, she dropped down from Gabriel and turned to look at the others. Unable to be separate from her, Gabriel’s hand moved across her back and rested on her hip, keeping her close to him as Alpha Queen Aila and Alpha King Damon approached them as well.
Luther stopped messing around and bowed respectfully to his king, as did Niko, who wore his usual stoic expression, though she could see the relief in his eyes at seeing Gabriel. "I’m so glad you’re back. There’s so much fricken paperwork!" Luther exclaimed.
"Paperwork you haven’t been doing," Esme replied with an arched eyebrow.
"Of course, he hasn’t. My second in command is rather lazy, though he should know better," Gabriel’s voice was low, cool, and threatening.
Luther smirked. "You can’t kill me off, boss. You’d feel lost without me!"

"I’m quite certain there will be less work," Gabriel deadpanned.
"Welcome back, sire," Niko interrupted, saving Luther. Though, they all knew Gabriel would not kill him. He’d been with him the longest and knew the most about how the king worked.
"We were starting to get worried." This time Aila spoke as they stopped before them. Her eyes fell to Esme for a moment, softening at seeing Gabriel’s hand on her possessively and protectively. The fool, he knew she didn’t even need Luther and Niko there to protect her.
Aila returned her attention to Gabriel. "I know you’ve just returned, but we have urgent business to attend to."
"There is always urgent business," Gabriel droned before kissing the side of Esme’s head. That didn’t stop them from following behind the Alpha King and Queen inside the packhouse, along with the other pack leaders and Ajax. Somehow, he’d become an honorary member. Shapeshifter as he was.
On the way to what Esme knew now to be the fancy historical library, she whispered to Gabriel. "How did you get here?"
Gabriel smirked, and his voice floated through her mind in response. "I was gone for three months there in the underworld. I was regaining the powers I stopped using and managed to teleport back."
Esme’s brows rose at that, but she wasn’t surprised. "Took your damn time. Three months is long," she moaned, her voice still low, but the others could hear her. They just didn’t hear about Gabriel’s other powers.
Nobody needed to panic more about the god walking among them.
It had been a few weeks for Esme and months for Gabriel.
Gabriel lowered his face to her ear and nibbled on her lobe. "Three months IS a very long time." The suggestion in his voice and the biting on her ear told her they were not going to be leaving the bedroom anytime soon after this.
An award should be given to them already for holding back and not leaving straight away. But annoyingly, there were other matters that were more important than their horniness. Still, she couldn’t stop herself from whispering, "Keep the robes on."
They shared a knowing look, smirking before Niko cleared his throat, pulling them back to the others now standing in the library in a circle near the fire that seemed to always be on. The vampires stayed away from it, still a little wary near werewolves and fire.
Aila parted her lips to speak, but Gabriel beat her to it. "Cassius has been imprisoned in the underworld. He cannot escape-"
"He escaped the tomb," Damon growled, his bulging arms crossed against his chest as he levelled his gaze on Gabriel.
"He CANNOT escape," Gabriel repeated. "And believe me, he will wish he was dead."
Aila’s brows drew together at that. Esme watched her a while longer, remembering how there was a bond between them, but it must have been harder for Gabriel. Cassius was his brother, and until they arrived on earth, they were close. The Vampire King left it at that, and Damon didn’t question further.
They were not aware that the only ones able to release Cassius from Tartarus were Gabriel, Hades and possibly Esme. Though she didn’t think she held such influence, not that she ever intended to help the vampire escape.
Aila cleared her throat. "Alright, now that’s been settled.. We need to have a meeting among all the leaders of the supernatural creatures, Chase and the hunters and a few human officials."
The meeting went on between the pack leaders, vampires, the rogue she-wolf and Ajax until everything had been explained in detail to Gabriel about what he’d missed and what their plan was. He agreed to it.
"When?" Gabriel asked.
"Saturday?" Ajax asked; he had his phone to his ear on the line to a shapeshifter leader.
"No!" Damon interrupted eyes a little wide and panic-stricken. He cleared his throat, his arm slinging over Aila, eyes intense on a few of the pack leaders. "No.. Not Saturday. Make it Monday."
That was weird. They wanted to get it sorted out quickly. But the way Damon was acting and how the others responded to him with small smiles, they agreed to Monday. Aila seemed unaware of the slight change in atmosphere. Her focus was on her phone, playing a video about a bear attack killing men who camped and fished in an area they shouldn’t have.
"Monday it is," Gabriel murmured before picking Esme up and running away from them, lips crashing into hers at his vampiric, blurry speed until they found a free bedroom to be alone in. Her giggles echoed through the house, and thoughts about the upcoming meeting and the Alpha King’s and pack leaders’ strange behaviour vanished from her mind.
