Callan burst through Aldric’s mind, snapping his elongated canines and slicing his claws through the closest man to his right in the van. Blood splattered everywhere, but there was only a muffled yell in the back of the van as it shook and almost toppled to the side. The man’s breath left him in a rush, and all that was left was a bloodied body.

Aldric turned his glowing blue gaze onto the others, aware of the blood dripping from his mouth and from his claws. His lips curved up into a sadistic smile, delighting in the way the others tried to shuffle backwards, looking at him like the evil creature they believed him to be. But now, he didn’t care.

These were the humans who thought they had the right to kill his mate and children. These twisted, sick individuals. He took another step towards them, snarling when he smelt a whiff of urine in the van.

"Aldric!" Harry grabbed him and pulled him back. "Not yet!"

His large form was now in front of him, grunting from the way Aldric barged against him to get to the others, to fulfil this blood lust and rage. It would never bring his mate back, but he would feel better ridding the world of such scum. Aldric growled some more, eyes sweeping across them.

Harry then connected to him in a mind-link. "Chase has set everything up. Don’t do it here. This is a residential area. It will mess up the plan.. Aldric..

We need to leave this unscathed. If we don’t, and their deaths make headlines as a supernatural attack, it makes the world an even harder place for us. For your children."

His children.. Aldric blinked back at that. His only anchor right now was his children. He couldn’t mess this up now. Callan growled in protest, his eyes landing on Mark, who was lying on his side, hands cuffed tightly behind his back, eyes wide.

"For our pups, Callan. Come on, it’s not long now," Aldric persuaded his wolf.

Callan growled in response, but at the mention of their pups, he retreated quietly though it was apparent he was bristling. They both were. Killing one of them seemed to have satiated their need for now. It would never bring back what he had lost, what his family had lost, but in werewolf society, this was not uncalled for.

The doors behind Aldric opened, and Harry pointed his head in that direction, watching carefully and waiting as Aldric slowly backed out. Fortunately, it was dark outside, so his blood-splattered tank top and hands would not be noticed by any nearby. That didn’t mean they’d stay there long, though.

"Jeese," Chase whistled at the bloodied mess of the inside of the van. "Let’s ride up front."

Aldric continued to glare at the remaining men as he stood outside the back of the van.

Chase patted Aldric’s shoulder. "Don’t worry, they’re not escaping."

"Gentlemen.." Harry smiled darkly, eyes glinting dangerously. With the scars across his body and the scar through his eye, the rogue could appear more menacing and dangerous than many. "No need to fret! You will be joining your friend soon."

He closed the doors, smiling at them still until they fully closed. Aldric smirked and climbed into the back of the other van. Harry slid in behind him and shut the doors before shaking his head with a small smile.

"I’m not gonna lie.. I didn’t think you had it in you." Harry started raking his fingers through his reddish-brown hair. The rogue had also changed and wore similar clothes to Aldric, shorts and top and trainers, clothes they could easily change out of.

Aldric smirked. "Is that why you’re here? To do the deed if I can’t? They killed my mate, Harry." His tone became serious as he held his friend’s gaze.

Harry nodded, "I know. But if it did get too much.. I’m here. You know I’m here for you. You’re a good guy, and killing out of anger isn’t something I see you doing.." He held his hands up in surrender when a low growl erupted from Aldric’s chest. "I know, I know..

I’m just saying.. I’m not a good man, and I’ll do it for you. You will still get your revenge."

Aldric paused, assessing his friend for a while before he answered. "You’re better than you give yourself credit for."

Harry snorted and waved him off. "Please. I don’t care what others think of me. If I did.. I wouldn’t have survived for so long."

"If you weren’t a good guy.. Her highness would not have taken you in," Aldric retorted with a raised eyebrow.

"Aila’s just got a big heart-"

"You know I’m right," Aldric interrupted him, dismissing his low opinion about himself and silly excuses as to why their Queen would give him a chance to stand by her side.

It was surprising because Harry was a rogue before his transformation, and many would never trust him. But that was why Aila was perfect for the next generation of the werewolf monarchy. From what he knew of her, she didn’t grow up surrounded by werewolves that would influence her way of thinking about not only rogues but other supernatural creatures.

Aila had to accept what she was and the world of the supernatural creatures quickly, and because of her upbringing, it worked for what was to come, especially now that the supernatural creatures were exposed to humans.

"What about Esme?" Harry retorted, giving him a pointed look.

Aldric arched an eyebrow. "Do you really think she’s evil?" Now Harry was just grasping at straws.

"No.." Harry sighed. "No.. She isn’t.. She’s actually legendary among the rogues."

Esme was also with a vampire. The king of all vampires, at that. Though he was a little ruthless, then again, she was as well, so they were quite the pair. Aldric didn’t believe she was evil either; she just had a hard life like Harry. Not that he knew much about her life. Most rogues had harder lives than if they were in a pack.

Aldric leaned his head back and closed his eyes. "Thanks for looking out for me," he began, returning to the original topic of conversation. It was all distracting him and his wolf anyway until they officially enacted their revenge. "I’m sorry if I’ve been a dick. I didn’t mean to be bossy.. or an Alpha jerk."

"Don’t worry, big guy.. It’s always going to be in your nature to be a bossy dick. I just have to get used to it.. Well.. a little," Harry replied with amusement lacing his voice.

"Reckon you’ll reclaim what’s yours one day?" Aldric asked. He knew some of the rogue’s story and knew it wasn’t a topic to discuss lightly of. Harry had been through a shit storm many wouldn’t survive.

"I’m taking each step as it comes at the moment, brother! I’m quite happy to serve our Queen for now. Silver Crescent is formidable and seems a decent place to settle.

"If I went down the route of revenge, it would be nothing but a blood path, and there would probably be nothing left to reclaim.. Now I like a good blood bath like any other evil rogue, but I’m feeling a little lazy for now. I might just retire," Harry mused.

Aldric shook his head, eyes still closed. Harry sounded light-hearted, but he knew there was a darkness in that rogue that would, at some point, be released upon those who had hurt him. After being betrayed by someone close to his family, Aldric now understood that rage and urge to seek revenge. If he didn’t have his children, he might even have helped Harry when it was time.

But whereas Aldric still had a family, Harry did not. He didn’t have anything tying him down, anything to focus on and look forward to. It seemed like a lonely path, one, like Harry said, was full of blood and violence. The rogue had grown up in that, but it wasn’t a life to live.

Not a truly happy one, anyway. That was why Aldric and his wolf wanted to kill Mark and his friends as quickly as possible, so they could put an end to this chapter in their life. It would never stop him from thinking about what had happened. Never.

His mate was dead, and his children were almost burnt alive like her. Thankfully there was not much of a scratch on them, and their wolf side healed them quickly. But they were still in pain. Now they were in pain from losing their mum.

That was something Aldric could never get back. He couldn’t turn back time, and he had all this guilt weighing down on him. This anger, this feeling of revenge, was also like a two-way sword, one he had no intention of cutting him up more than it already was.

Once they were dead, that was it. Aldric would return to his children and continue with their lives. It wouldn’t be the same as before, but they would get through it. HE would get through it, for his children.
