How To Survive A Calamity-Chapter 155: Look Up! [2]
Xavier body froze, unable to move any longer as if his limbs no longer listened nor belonged to him.
He felt his mimd grow muddled with Nicodemus’s last words tearing though his head.
"Perhaps, you too, can show me, what true fear is." The demon contractor coldly spat, "Run mad."
Everything suddenly ceased to be for Xavier and his mind went blank with darkness.
Then he felt unbridled dread and horror rise from the depths of his being.
Xavier’s eyes trembled, he tried to resist but failed splendidly as his mental resistance and psyche crumbled under a twisted influence.
The next moment he screamed.
"Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!"
-Clang!
The raised sword in his hand fell to the hard ground with a resounding clangour. Xavier took involuntary steps backwards, stumbling over his own feet as he gripped his hair and shuddered.
Red tears streamed down his trembling bloodshot eyes, and his nostrils were wet with snot.
Xavier’s lips bobbed up and down uncontrollably. His eyes lost focus as he shrunk lower and lower to the ground, as if desperately trying to retreat into some imaginary shell like a cornered sea turtle.
His shoulder trembled rigourously as incomprehensibe jumble left his mouth, and sticky saliva watered from his lips.
Nicodemus coldly turned, and indifferently gazed at the sight aloofly from above.
The once great and mighty Xavier Locke...
Reduced to such a pathetic display that could make a child cry.
Once more again, Nicodemus silently acknowledged the immense, and intimidating power his Contractor had. And the power he, too, now had the chance to possess.
He stood silently and lingered for a few seconds, feeling a third and final gaze feverishly bore into him from behind.
"Human emotions are such fickle and pointless things. With just the right words and points, you could break or make a man. Tame or destroy the mind." He said and slowly turned towards Trise who was weakly trembling with her sword raised.
"S-stay away from me..." He voice was like a squeal and her complexion was drained.
Not once did Trise delude herself into thinking she could do anything against Nicodemus, after watching him just as easily incapacitate every single one in the group without doing more than moving a leg.
Nico cast a solemn gaze over her and flipped a page of his book.
"It’s... Sad, isn’t it?"
"Huh?"
-Drip drip.
Trise’s eyesight suddenly became blurry and itchy. She felt something wet and ticklish trickle and flow down her cheeks.
"What is happening...?" Trise drew in a dreary gasp and brushed the back of her fist across her face.
For some reason...
There were tears.
For some reason...
"Why?"
She felt sad.

Her grip on the hilt of her rapier loosened and her blade fell loosely to the ground.
Trise rubbed her eyes with her hands, but the tears wouldn’t stop.
"Huh? H-huhh? Why? Why am i doing this? Why won’t they stop? Why does it hurt? Somebody, sniff sniff, please... Anybody — help! Sniff."
-Thump.
Her knees weakly gave out and Trise Asher fell to them against the ground with her head bent over and lowered.
Tears incessantly continued to flow without end from her swollen eyes and dripped against the ground until a small puddle formed just under her.
She cried and sniffled, strange sounding moans of anguish and sorrowful wails parted her lips more than once.
Everything just hurt for her.
She felt indescribably sad and afraid. The sorrow was overwhelming.
Trise continued to cry so hard, her mind was hazy.
Her eyes became swollen and bloodshot.
Her tears became blood.
She knew something was wrong with her, but there was nothing she could do.
She just felt so bad.
So...sad.
The skin and flesh around her eyes and cheeks tore open from the constant rubbing of her face with her hands and fingers.
Nicodemus emotionlessly stared at her groveling figure as Trise continued to endlessly wail that her face drained of all colours.
His deep black lightess eyes were incomparably solemn and empty.
"What frail and pathetic creatures." Nicodemus dryly said.

The black darkness around him surged lightly; the pages of the mysterious book fluttered open on their own in his hand once more.
Black wisps of dark smoke and miasma gathered from it and converged at a small point over the book, forming a deformed silhouette outline of a face.
Two dark red and orange eyes glinted from them, and a region around the mouth was formed below.
"Finish them off." The ominous, dark silhouette of a face spoke in a dark and twisted voice, like an overlaps of wails.
"Is that necessary? They already lost." Nicodemus dryly responded in his usual deadpan and unenthusiastic manner, looking at Trise continue to cry blood at his feet.
The pair of red and orange eyes turned around partially to look over at Nicodemus.
"Do it." It persisted.
"Isn’t this what you’ve always wanted? Power for retribution. Power for revenge, to put all those who stepped over you and against you under the soles of your feet? Power for control."
Nicodemus lingered. For a rare, short moment, his impassive expression faltered and distorted in a contortion as he gazed forward at the figure wedged in the wall across.
Then he retracted his gaze and closed his eyes.
The next time he opened them, his cold expression had returned back to usual.
Nicodemus nodded slowly.
"Indeed. And you have given me the chance to such power ever since i found you." He coldly said, turned around, and walked away slowly.
"I have already asserted my dominance. Wether i kill them here or not, it is my win."
His black eyes deepened as he walked past Xavier’s trembling figure, and a dark glint flashed through them.
"I’m the one who’s stronger now."
The black face made in the miasma groaned.
"I do not understand. Isn’t revenge what you want? You won’t survive like this where we’ll be going from now on. It is never wise to keep lose ends. Hah! Do you think the humans would spare you just as the same if you were in their position? You who have signed away your soul, mind, body, humanity, and race to a demon, the greatest enemy of all races to exist? What? Was it because of what that female child said before?"
