Chapter 72: The Fallen Heir

In the ethereal realm of the supreme god, Marcus Fulcinius Eumenius, his words reverberated with pain and determination. "She is not you. She will be perished. I will not let anyone portray as you."

As he spoke, his mind spiraled back in time, and the dark clouds veiled his eyes, transporting him to a vivid memory. He found himself standing in a celestial realm, where a woman rushed toward him, clutching something in her hand.

"Marcus, wait! I can’t run after you much longer," the woman panted, her voice filled with effort.

The young boy named Marcus regarded the woman with curiosity. "Divine Mother, you tire so easily. If you can’t keep up with me, how could you chase after those wicked demons? Aren’t you the embodiment of the divine? Aren’t you the symbol of strength? Why aren’t you demonstrating your strength to me?"

The divine mother replied softly, her voice carrying wisdom and gentleness. "Do I possess divine power to chase after you, my son? It is for the benefit of humans. I cannot wield it for my personal gain."

"Humans? Why only humans? What if something transpires in the godly realm? Will you still refrain from using your power? Will you remain helpless?" the young boy inquired further, his curiosity undiminished.

"Yes, I will, because that is my purpose. That is my duty. I will never employ my divine power for my own sake, only for the welfare of humanity," the divine mother explained, her words resonating with unwavering devotion.

"Do you remember your words, Mother?" the young boy smiled, his eyes filled with innocence and trust.

"Of course, my son! After all, I have much to teach you. You are destined to become the supreme god of this realm," the divine mother replied, her smile warm and loving.

But the scene abruptly shifted, transforming the celestial realm into a nightmarish hellscape. The once-pure heavens were now tainted with darkness, the ground soaked in the life essence of many fallen gods. A menacing figure, holding a blood-drenched sword, approached the divine mother, who sat on her throne, adorned with a radiant crown.

"What have you done, Marcus? Is this what you desired? Is this what I taught you?" the divine mother questioned from her throne, her voice tinged with sorrow.

"Yes, Mother! This is what you taught me. Didn’t you promise to make me the supreme god of this realm, to be revered by humans? Then why did you choose her over me? Why did you declare her the heir to the throne and not me? Why?" Marcus vented his anger, his voice filled with bitterness.

"You were meant to be, but the prophecy did not favor you. The oracle did not select you to be the supreme god, but her. Perhaps this is why you were not chosen. Maybe the heavens foresaw your actions, which I, your own mother, failed to recognize in my own son," the divine mother admitted, her voice heavy with regret.

"So, Mother, do you now remember what you taught me when I was a child?" Marcus inquired, his voice laced with accusation.

"You taught me that divine powers are solely for the benefit of humans, that you would never use them for personal gain. Is that promise still valid? Will you simply sit here without defending yourself against me or for your people?" he continued, his tone growing colder.

The divine mother remained silent, resembling a statue, her gaze fixed upon her wayward son.

"Ha ha ha, Mother! You make me seem like a villain, offering you the chance to defend yourself. Are you still unwilling to take action?" Marcus probed, a cruel smile twisting his lips.

"Very well, as you wish, Mother. I shall grant you a swift death because you did not defend yourself," Marcus declared, his voice resolute. In one swift motion, he raised his blood-stained sword and severed her head from her body. Her head tumbled to the ground, while her lifeless form remained seated on the throne, crimson blood staining the pristine white surroundings.

"Now, no one shall take what rightfully belongs to me," he muttered triumphantly, believing he had secured his claim to power. But his moment of victory was brief, for an oracle appeared, delivering a prophecy that contradicted his desires.

"THE RIGHTFUL HEIR TO THE THRONE WILL SOON BE REBORN INTO THE MORTAL WORLD. MARCUS FULCINIUS EUMENIUS WILL NEVER BE ACCEPTED AS THE GOD IN THIS REALM. HE IS TAINTED AS A TRAITOR WHO WILL BE BANISHED FROM THIS REALM."

"Banished? By whom? The other gods who survived from me? Who dares? Don’t you know the power runs in my blood? The power of manipulation! Do you think I will leave them be without making them my followers? What a useless prophecy you’ve proclaimed!" Marcus scoffed at the oracle, his arrogance undiminished.

"As for her rebirth, if she is reborn, I will erase her just as I have done this time. She will never pose a threat to my ascendancy. The god of fate will inscribe her destiny according to my will. No one can prevent me from doing so. Mark my words!" he proclaimed as he seated himself on the throne, his intentions clear.

Other gods arrived at the scene, witnessing the destruction he had wrought, their faces filled with shock and sorrow.

"What have you done?" the god Lunar exclaimed, his frustration and disappointment evident in his voice.

"What have I done? Can’t you see, the Moon God?" Marcus retorted, his arrogance resurfacing.

"And is this how you greet the new supreme god? Is this how you greeted my mother in the past?" he questioned, his voice laced with bitterness. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

"You are not the supreme god! How can you claim that after assassinating the previous supreme god? You are nothing more than a traitor. You should be banished from this realm. You have no place here. You no longer belong," the god Lunar shouted, his voice echoing with righteous anger.

"And who will do that? You? Or the others?" Marcus asked, a red aura encircling him, causing the gods to struggle against its overwhelming power.

"Now, will you do as I say?" he demanded, his authority unchallenged.

The gods, unable to resist his immense power, bowed in submission to the self-proclaimed supreme god, a reign of darkness descending upon the once-glorious celestial realm.
