How Did I Become an F1 Driver?-Chapter 75 - 69: Mom
Chapter 75: Chapter 69: Mom
Qin Miao was thinking of pouring Qimeng a glass of water, then showing her around his house, and perhaps giving her a brief introduction to its internal layout.
But what Qin Miao didn’t expect was that Qimeng seemed as if she had been to Qin Miao’s house before, showing familiarity with everything in his home.
After casually touring the various rooms, Qin Miao was planning to wait for his mom to come home after work and then take both of them out to eat.
After all, at this time Qin Miao had over 20 million in savings and one million in disposable funds; with so much money, it wouldn’t make sense not to treat his mom to a good meal.
What he didn’t expect was that Qimeng directly rolled up her sleeves and went to the kitchen, and then started cooking with a bewildered Qin Miao standing and watching in awe.
Standing at the kitchen door, Qin Miao didn’t know what to say at this point; he felt like he was the guest, and Qimeng was the true host here.
Seeing Qin Miao standing at the kitchen door, Qimeng, who had opened the fridge and taken out vegetables, handed some to Qin Miao: "Why are you in a daze? Help me wash the vegetables."
"Oh, oh..."
Coming back to his senses, Qin Miao took the celery that Qimeng handed over and began to wash it.
Qin Miao’s mom had gotten off work an hour earlier today because she knew her son would be coming home. So before going to work in the afternoon, she had specifically bought ingredients for dinner.
This way, she could start cooking as soon as she got home without needing to go to the market.
But when she came home excitedly and opened the door, instead of seeing her son playing on the computer in his room, she saw Qin Miao busy in the kitchen.
In an instant, Qin Miao’s mom frowned, not because of Qin Miao’s presence in the kitchen, but because of the short-haired girl next to him cooking.
With a face full of confusion, his mom changed shoes and soon noticed the face masks and cosmetics on the living room cabinet, while a scent of food wafted into her nose.
As she wandered further into the house, she also saw several dishes on the dining table covered with mosquito nets.
"Auntie?" A soft and pleasant voice reached Qin Miao’s mom’s ears. Turning around, she saw the short-haired girl carrying a dish out of the kitchen, looking at her with surprise.
Seeing Qin Miao’s mom looking over, Qimeng quickly put down the last dish of beef and celery, wiped her hands and introduced herself confidently: "Hello Auntie, I’m Qin Miao’s girlfriend, and also his deskmate, Qimeng."
At this time, Qin Miao also came out of the kitchen, and upon hearing Qimeng’s introduction, he was slightly taken aback.
This girl wasn’t following the plan; they had agreed she’d come under the guise of being his deskmate for a meal, just so the parent would know someone with a good relationship with her son/daughter was around, but Qimeng went straight ahead with the big reveal, claiming to be his girlfriend.
No mercy! What a sneak attack! How unexpected for someone with a pure heart like me.
Just when Qin Miao thought his mom would be utterly bewildered and unable to process the situation.
His mom suddenly burst into a dazzling smile: "Oh! So you are Meng, right? How did you end up falling for our Qin Miao? But don’t worry, Auntie will make sure you’re well taken care of in our family."
"Ah, this girl is so pretty." After saying this, his mom stared at Qin Miao: "Why are you standing there? Go serve rice to our Meng!"
Qin Miao: ...
Qin Miao now had a very clear understanding of how quickly his mom could change her demeanor.
But since it was a command from his mother, Qin Miao had no thought of resisting, and turned to go back to the kitchen to serve three bowls of rice.
But when Qin Miao returned from the kitchen, the two women were already chatting and laughing together like long-time friends.
The corner of Qin Miao’s mouth twitched, and he started to suspect these two were somehow acting or something; it’s rare you meet someone and instantly have such great rapport.
Especially considering this is supposed to be the notoriously difficult mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationship in China.
But the fact remained, at this moment in time, all Qin Miao’s mom saw in Qimeng was admiration.
And when Qin Miao sat down, the two had just reached the topic of the skincare products Qimeng brought for his mom.
Hearing they were specially brought over from Changsha by Qimeng, Qin Miao’s mom’s face showed even more unconcealed delight.
This wasn’t watching her son’s girlfriend; this seemed entirely like seeing her daughter-in-law.
Just as Qin Miao was about to lift the mosquito nets from the dishes and call them to eat, his mom suddenly looked at him very sternly and said: "Qin Miao! Let me make this clear, I have no objections to the two of you, in fact, I’m very happy, but if you dare treat Meng badly, I’ll definitely break your legs!"
Qin Miao was stunned.
I thought I didn’t do anything worthy of condemnation since coming home, yet because of Qimeng’s presence, I’ve inexplicably been yelled at twice.
But faced with his mom’s threatening gaze, Qin Miao could only nod meekly.
And Qimeng didn’t say much either, merely covering her mouth with a smile, her eyes narrowing slightly, looking just like an adorable little fox sneaking a laugh.
While eating, Qin Miao didn’t intend to disclose his current financial situation to his mom so early, but Qimeng brought up what happened after Qin Miao went out.
Perhaps it was because of Qimeng’s presence, or maybe because Qin Miao’s mom was just that carefree.
In any case, after hearing the news, Qin Miao’s mom didn’t show much surprise; she just calmly accepted it after a moment of thought.
Qin Miao felt like he might be dreaming for a moment. How come after gaining an extra twenty million, his mom isn’t as emotional as when he suddenly got a girlfriend?
After dinner, at his mom’s request, Qin Miao drove Qimeng back home, while she happily went back to her room to fiddle with the skincare products Qimeng had bought for her.
Qin Miao first took Qimeng home, then returned to the community to the delight of the kids there.
Qin Miao kept his promise cheerfully, giving the kids more than twenty rides around the neighborhood. Even though he switched kids every lap, it still took over an hour to let all the kids experience the thrill of riding in a supercar.
Many kids were stuck at home doing homework in the afternoon, so when Qin Miao initially agreed, there were only seven or eight kids around.
But when it was time to take them for a ride, over twenty kids showed up.
Since they were all neighborhood kids, Qin Miao couldn’t leave anyone out.
So pretty much every kid he knew or had seen got a ride in the passenger seat for a lap.
After satisfying all the kids, Qin Miao went to the nearby gas station to refill the tank and bought some snacks before heading home.
Once he got home, he found his mom waiting for him on the living room sofa.
"Son, sit down."
Qin Miao sat down as told.
What followed wasn’t a lengthy lecture, and his mom didn’t even ask Qin Miao how he planned to spend the money.
Qin Miao’s mom only asked him how he felt about Qimeng, if he knew her family situation, and how far their relationship had progressed.
Qin Miao felt his mom seemed more concerned about him getting hurt emotionally than about the money.
So Qin Miao truthfully told his mom everything he knew without leaving anything out.
After receiving Qin Miao’s sincere response, his mom felt relieved, didn’t ask more questions, nor mention the money, just told Qin Miao to go wash the dishes.
Qin Miao: ...
No choice, it’s his mom, bound by blood.
After washing the dishes, Qin Miao took a nice shower, then went back to his room.
Today, Qin Miao wasn’t interested in playing with the simulator again; having experienced real racing and played with Boss Zhou’s custom six-axis simulator, he had lost interest in the 5 Nm direct drive one at home.
After showering, Qin Miao picked up his phone to chat with Qimeng. Although they had just started dating, the content of their chats was different from most new couples.
Usually, new couples chat about nothing much, just some lovey-dovey words.
"I love you, you love me, I miss you, do you miss me?" kinds of stuff.
But when Qin Miao and Qimeng chatted online, it felt as if they had been together for many years, discussing serious topics mostly about life’s trivial matters and amusing oddities they discovered lately, with hardly any lovey-dovey words except for a brief: "Rest early, mua~" at most.
Nothing much happened overnight.
The next morning, just as Qin Miao got up, Qimeng knocked on his door.
At this time, Qin Miao’s mom hadn’t yet left for work, and hearing the knock puzzled her a bit.
It didn’t seem like a neighbor would visit so early.
But upon opening the door and seeing Qimeng, the perplexed expression on her face instantly turned into an amiable smile: "Ah, Meng, come in, come in, don’t stand outside."
"Just right, Auntie bought you a pair of slippers yesterday, not sure if they fit." While saying so, Qin Miao’s mom pulled out a pair of pink slippers from the shoe cabinet without removing the tag: "I haven’t torn off the tag, try them on. If they don’t fit, we can exchange them. Are you thirsty? Let me get you an orange juice."
Qimeng, feeling overwhelmed by the hospitality, hurriedly tried on the slippers while saying, "No need, Auntie, I came to find Qin Miao; we’re going out to exercise together."
"Leave that stinky kid aside first. Meng, have you had breakfast? If not, I haven’t eaten either, I can make you something. What do you like?"
Qimeng quickly declined: "No, no, no need, Auntie. I already ate on my way over, and I brought some for Qin Miao." Saying this, she showed the soy milk and dough sticks she carried.
"All right then, come in and sit for a while. I’ll go wake that stinky kid up."
When Qin Miao was woken up by having his blanket pulled off by his mom, he had a head full of questions.
Seeing his mom’s frustrated look and Qimeng sneaking peeks from the doorway, Qin Miao could roughly guess what was happening.
Groggily, he picked up his phone from the bedside to check the time. Seeing it said 7:20 AM, he felt somewhat indignant. It’s only 7:20 in the morning!!!
"Sleep, sleep, sleep, all you do is sleep. Get up quickly! Didn’t you see Meng is waiting for you?"
