The sun dipped below the horizon, casting the forest in an unsettling twilight. Twisted trees clawed at the sky, their silhouettes framing a glowing fog that spread across the ground like a suffocating shroud. ZETU had been sent to investigate the outskirts of Sector 14, a once-thriving village now overrun by reports of "shifting shadows."

Captain Marcus "Iron Will" Kane surveyed the scene, his shotgun cradled in his arms. "We're not alone," he said quietly, his voice firm but cautious. The rest of the team tightened their formation, their breath visible in the chilling air.

Detective Lila "Huntress" Navarro crouched low, her eyes scanning the mist. "Tracks," she whispered, pointing to deep impressions in the mud. "Multiple targets, but... they're dragging something."

"What kind of zombies drag?" Officer Derek "Shield" Coleman muttered, gripping his riot shield.

"They're evolving," Huntress replied grimly, rising to her feet. "Stay alert."

The mist began to thicken, creeping around their legs and muffling the sounds of the forest. A faint, otherworldly moaning reached their ears, growing louder with each passing moment. Then, out of the fog, dark figures began to materialize—gangly, humanoid shapes that swayed unnaturally, their limbs grotesquely elongated.

"Contact!" shouted Sergeant Jenna "Blaze" Hart, raising her flamethrower. She let loose a stream of fire, illuminating the mist in fiery orange. The flames consumed the first wave of creatures, their high-pitched screams echoing through the forest. But for every one that fell, two more emerged, their hollow eyes glowing faintly.

"These aren't just zombies!" shouted Riley "Quick Shot" Bennett, perched on a broken tree trunk with her sniper rifle. She fired a clean shot, the bullet piercing through the eye of one creature. It collapsed into the fog, but its unsettling, twitching movements made it clear these were no ordinary infected.

"They're Mistwalkers," Brain announced from the backline, tapping frantically on his tablet. "Reports indicate they can regenerate in the fog. We have to find what's generating it, or this fight's endless."

"Then find it, Brain!" Kane barked, blasting another Mistwalker apart with his shotgun.

"Northwest—200 meters!" Brain shouted. "There's an energy source giving off a high heat signature."

"Blaze, you're on point! Huntress, cover her!" Kane commanded. The team shifted into formation, Blaze leading with her flamethrower spitting bursts of fire to clear the path. The Mistwalkers grew more aggressive, their movements erratic as they lunged at the team.

Shield took a hit, a Mistwalker slamming into his reinforced riot shield with inhuman force. "Get off me!" he roared, shoving it back and delivering a bone-crushing blow with his baton.

As they pushed forward, the source of the fog came into view—a dilapidated chapel, its stained glass shattered, and an eerie glow emanating from within. The Mistwalkers converged, their numbers swelling, as if drawn to protect the source.

"We make our stand here!" Kane shouted, rallying his team. The ZETU squad readied their weapons, bracing for the fight of their lives. The chapel loomed ominously, a beacon of dread in the veil of darkness.
