Horrific Shorts: Zombie Edition-Chapter 510 : Story 510: Shadows of Survival
The golden glow of the descending sun cast long shadows through the decimated streets of the ghost town. The dusty air carried the stench of rot, a stark reminder of the undead plague that now ruled this world. ZETU's mission was clear: evacuate a cluster of survivors trapped in a crumbling building while holding back the relentless horde.
Captain Marcus Kane's voice crackled over the comms. "Eyes up, team. We've got limited light, and they're closing in fast. Brain, give me eyes on that survivor location."
Ethan "Brain" O'Connor's drone whirred above, its camera relaying live footage to his tablet. "The survivors are holed up in the structure dead ahead—three adults and one child on the second floor. Entry through the front is impossible; too many hostiles blocking the way."
Kane clenched his jaw. "We'll create a diversion. Blaze, light it up. Quick Shot, take the high ground for cover. Shield, Huntress, with me—through the side alley."
Jenna "Blaze" Hart stepped forward, her flamethrower roaring to life. The intense blaze ripped through the approaching zombies, their grotesque forms illuminated in an infernal glow. The horde staggered and twisted, their guttural moans drowned by the roar of fire.
"Got your attention now, huh?" Blaze taunted, her eyes scanning for the next wave.
Meanwhile, Riley "Quick Shot" Bennett climbed a precarious balcony, her sniper rifle locking onto key targets. One by one, her shots rang out, precise and methodical, clearing a path for the team below. "I've got you covered, Captain. Make it quick—this place is about to turn into a furnace."

Kane, Shield, and Huntress slipped through the alley, the narrow passage offering only slight reprieve from the encroaching horde. Shield took point, his riot shield absorbing a sudden lunge from a rabid zombie. With a practiced motion, he shoved it back and smashed its skull with his baton.
"Stay close," Kane barked as they reached the building's side entrance. The door was barricaded from the inside. "Huntress, see if you can find another way in."
Detective Navarro scanned the exterior and noticed an open window on the second floor. "I'll climb up and secure them," she said, holstering her pistols and pulling out her grappling hook. With a quick toss, she ascended, disappearing into the shadows.
Inside, the survivors cowered as the sound of shuffling feet and distant screams grew louder. Navarro appeared at the window, her calm voice cutting through their panic. "ZETU. We're here to get you out."
The child whimpered as a zombie clawed at the barricaded door. Huntress drew her pistols, firing through the wood. "We don't have time for fear. Follow me if you want to live."
Outside, the horde thickened, their ranks swelling as the sun sank lower. "Captain," Brain's voice came urgently over the comms, "you've got a larger wave inbound. You need to move now."
Kane gritted his teeth. "Team, we've got what we came for. Regroup and hold position until evac arrives."
The night was far from over.
