Horrific Shorts: Zombie Edition-Chapter 481: Story : The Stone Chamber
The oppressive quiet of the chamber settled over the team as the final echoes of the keeper's voice faded. The heavy wooden door slammed shut behind them, locking them in a dimly lit room of stone and wrought iron. The bed, draped in dark, ornate linens, sat against one wall like a throne in a castle. The flickering glow of iron sconces painted long shadows across the stone walls.
"Looks like we're not in Kansas anymore," Ghost muttered, running a gloved hand along the weathered door. "This feels... medieval."
"It's not just the look," Shadow whispered, her sniper rifle at the ready. "The air's heavy. Like something doesn't want us here."
Rook scanned the room, his eyes lingering on the intricate carvings on the wooden beams overhead. The runes etched into the dark wood seemed to shimmer faintly in the torchlight. "Stay sharp. This place is more than it seems."
Viper stepped forward, her gaze falling on the ornate rug in the center of the room. "There's something under here." She crouched down and peeled back the rug to reveal a circular sigil carved into the stone floor. Symbols of unknown origin spiraled toward the center, where a small, round indentation awaited something.
"A keyhole?" Bulwark guessed, kneeling beside her.
"Or a trigger," Ghost added.

Before anyone could act, the sconces flared brighter, and the sigil glowed with an eerie blue light. The temperature in the room plummeted, and a deep, guttural voice resonated from the walls.
"Prove your worth, intruders. Only the brave may claim the secrets of the chamber."
Rook raised a fist, signaling silence. "We've been here before. Stick together and solve this fast."
The team spread out, searching the room for clues. Viper examined the sigil while Shadow focused on a dusty bookshelf near the bed. Ghost moved toward a chest in the corner, its iron hinges rusted but intact.
Bulwark found himself drawn to the bed. The intricate metalwork of the frame wasn't just decorative—it bore the same runes as the beams above. "These markings... they match the sigil," he said, tracing them with his fingers.
"Check this out," Shadow called, pulling a weathered book from the shelf. The cover bore the same spiral pattern as the sigil. Flipping through the pages, she found a diagram of the room. "It's a map. The symbols align with specific objects in here."
As they pieced the puzzle together, Ghost pried open the chest, revealing a small, metal sphere etched with glowing runes. "Found something," he said, tossing it lightly to Rook.

Rook inspected the sphere, then nodded toward the sigil. "This might be the key. Let's find out."
He placed the sphere into the indentation at the center of the sigil. The room shuddered as the runes on the walls and bed flared to life. The stone beneath their feet began to shift, revealing a hidden staircase spiraling downward.
"Looks like we've got our way forward," Rook said, leading the charge.
But as they descended, the air grew colder, and a faint, malevolent laugh echoed from the depths below. Whatever awaited them wasn't going to make this easy.
