The shadowed figure stepped forward, the light revealing a gaunt face with hollow eyes that glimmered with malice. Zara's grip tightened on her pistol, her mind racing as she assessed the situation. The man before her wasn't the King—too human, too fragile—but the air around him reeked of loyalty to the undead tyrant.

"I've been expecting you, Kincaid," he sneered, his voice dripping with disdain. "You've made quite the mess of the King's plans. But this is where it ends."

Zara raised her gun, aiming for his chest. "Spare me the speech. Where's your master?"

The man chuckled, his frail frame shaking as he gestured toward the containment pods lining the walls. Inside each one, horrific mutations floated in a greenish fluid—grotesque hybrids of human and machine. Zara's stomach churned at the sight of their twitching limbs and half-formed faces.

"Do you like them?" he asked, pride evident in his tone. "The King's new army. And you'll be the perfect addition to it."

Before she could respond, the floor beneath her feet trembled. Zara glanced around, her instincts screaming danger. Suddenly, a pod to her left shattered, its glass spraying across the room. From within, a monstrous figure emerged—a hulking, twisted amalgamation of flesh and steel. Its red eyes locked onto Zara, and it let out a guttural roar that shook the very air.

"Kill her," the man ordered, retreating into the shadows.

Zara didn't hesitate. She fired three shots in rapid succession, each one finding its mark on the creature's chest. It staggered but didn't fall. Instead, it charged, its massive arms swinging wildly. Zara ducked and rolled to the side, narrowly avoiding a blow that left a crater in the floor where she had been standing.

She sprang to her feet, holstering her pistol in favor of a grenade clipped to her belt. Pulling the pin, she hurled it at the creature and dove behind a lab table. The explosion was deafening, the shockwave rattling the walls. When the dust settled, the creature lay in a smoldering heap.

But Zara had no time to celebrate. More pods began to crack and break open, their monstrous occupants awakening.

"Enough of this!" she growled, sprinting toward the control panel at the far end of the room. Her mind raced as she worked, deciphering the system. The man's voice echoed from the shadows, mocking her efforts.

"You think you can stop this? The King is inevitable!"

Zara ignored him, her fingers flying over the keyboard. She found the override controls and initiated a system purge. Warning alarms blared, and red lights flooded the room as the containment pods began to self-destruct.

The man emerged from his hiding spot, fury etched across his face. He lunged at Zara, but she sidestepped him with ease, delivering a sharp kick that sent him sprawling.

"You underestimated me," she said coldly.

As the facility began to collapse, Zara turned and sprinted for the exit. Behind her, the screams of the dying creatures and the enraged man were drowned out by the sound of explosions.
