Chapter 760: She is going to die, right?

The child looked at her uncertainly, his little hands cold, gently encircling Charlotte Smith’s neck and pressing his tender face against her bosom.

Feeling his dependence, Charlotte felt another wave of heartache. She was about to soothe him with gentle words when she saw Lady Stephens rushing over from a short distance away, followed by several bodyguards in black.

"Charlotte!"

Seeing the two of them, Lady Stephens called out urgently. Charlotte released George Stephens, and then the bodyguards walked over and placed them between two bodyguards.

The leading bodyguard, a tall Caucasian, stood in front of Charlotte, forming a temporary black wall, and looked down at her saying, "Miss Smith, the Stephens have prohibited you from making contact with the little master. What’s the meaning of meeting him secretly now?"

His tone was icy. Charlotte glanced at the anxious face of Lady Stephens opposite her, knowing she had been followed and that Lady Stephens couldn’t help much now. Consequently, she lowered her head to admit her mistake: "I’m sorry, it’s my fault. I won’t do it again."

The bodyguard stood arrogantly before her, pushing her back. Charlotte stumbled backward a few steps, regained her footing, and heard George’s shout: "How dare you hit my mother!"

He was blocked between two bodyguards and tried to rush over.

They were right on the road, and Charlotte feared for his safety, quickly calling out: "George, don’t run around!"

George, like a young calf, was blocked by the long-limbed bodyguards. Despite that, he slipped through the gaps between the men and broke through the encirclement. The bodyguards’ faces grew stern as they stretched out a hand to grab George’s collar, hauling him back.

George turned his head and attempted to bite the bodyguard’s hand.

Out of sheer instinct, the bodyguard threw him away.

Across the road, a black car was coming straight towards them. Seeing George being thrown out, it quickly slammed on the brakes, but unfortunately, it was too late—

Charlotte’s mind went blank.

"Charlotte!"

She heard Lady Stephens shout, her voice laced with tears. She felt she’d caught George’s small body, and then a massive force slammed her from behind, nearly breaking her in half. An indescribable pain instantly spread throughout her. Instinctively, she held the person in her arms tighter—

...

Pain.

She called out in unbearable agony.

Her consciousness plunged into darkness; she felt someone manipulating her limbs as her body felt split in two.

The numbing pain led her to fall back into a stupor, moments after regaining consciousness for a second.

Is she going to die? 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

What’s happening to George?

If she died, how would George live on...

Her heart was shrouded in sadness she couldn’t shake, yet she couldn’t resist the increasing lethargy enveloping her mind.

Her vision turned black again as she lost consciousness once more.

When she awoke again, morning had arrived.

The morning sunlight poured through the window, leaving grid-like patterns on the floor.

She felt herself lying on a soft bed, her whole body aching.

Yet this pain differed from being hit by a car; it felt more like being run over by the wheels...

Aching...

"Awake?"

A clear, deep male voice suddenly sounded behind her.

Charlotte as if struck by lightning, abruptly sat up on the bed.

The silk quilt slid off her smooth white skin, exposing the mottled marks cowering under the covers in the sunlight.

Her raven-feather-like dense, black hair fanned out chaotically over her shoulders. Ignoring the anomaly, she struggled to look back behind her.
