Hold On Mr.! Your Sweetheart is a Real Queen-Chapter 748: Love and hate
Edward Stephens looked at Charlotte Smith, his gaze somewhat sinister.
He asked, "That night when you drugged me, what exactly happened between us?"
Charlotte Smith looked at him, a hint of awkward smile appearing on her pale face, "Are you sure you want me to say it? Miss Ginger is still by your side..."
Daisy Ginger said, "I don’t mind. Go ahead."
Charlotte Smith was slightly taken aback, the slight smile on her little face faded, she turned her head to look at Daisy Ginger, seemingly trying to discern something from Daisy’s face.
However, Daisy Ginger didn’t give her a chance, she looked at her calmly, without revealing a slightest hint of emotion.
Charlotte Smith slowly withdrew her gaze, she softly said, "Edward, did I do something wrong again?"
"Do you need me to explain what you did wrong?"
Charlotte Smith was silent for a while, then shook her head, "I don’t know."
Edward Stephens let out a low mocking laugh, "You don’t know?"
"..." Charlotte Smith looked at him, not speaking.
Edward Stephens took a cigarette out of his pocket, and when he instinctively wanted to light it, he glanced at Daisy Ginger.
Daisy Ginger nodded, and he lit the cigarette with a lighter, slowly taking a puff.
Daisy Ginger understood, if he wasn’t feeling upset, Edward Stephens wouldn’t have needed to smoke to calm down.
The faint, clear scent of tobacco gradually spread, mixing with the gradually cooling aroma of coffee on the table, the man softly said, "The three of us grew up together. I have always appreciated how you took care of me those years. I never cared about your relationship with my elder brother, but you shouldn’t have schemed against me like this."
Charlotte Smith’s fingertips trembled, her bloodless face seemed transparent under the sunlight.
Edward Stephens’ words seemed to make her realize something.
Daisy Ginger looked at her, only feeling pity, yet also hate.
She understood Charlotte Smith’s determination to keep the child in her belly, but she couldn’t forgive her for targeting Edward Stephens and making him suffer all these years.
George Stephens is innocent, but Charlotte Smith is not.
"..." Charlotte Smith looked at Edward Stephens, not speaking for a long moment.
Edward Stephens didn’t want to circle around with her either, he took a puff of the cigarette and handed over the stack of paternity test reports from the research institute.
It showed that George Stephens and Edward Stephens had no parent-child relationship.
They were not father and son, so it was evident whose child George Stephens was.
When the truth was revealed, Daisy Ginger was simply stunned by Robert Stephens and Charlotte Smith.
One appeared gentle and refined but was actually cruel and merciless, and the other seemed obedient and weak yet schemed against the whole Stephens family.
Even managed to deceive Robert Stephens.
After all, Robert Stephens and Edward Stephens were brothers, their offspring would have some resemblance in features.
Who could have thought that George Stephens, who bore some resemblance to Edward Stephens, would be Robert Stephens’ child?
Charlotte Smith lowered her head, looking at the paternity test for a while, she seemed to have calmed down, and slowly asked, "Did he say this?"
Daisy Ginger answered on behalf of Edward Stephens, "It was Robert Stephens’ will, requesting for a paternity test between George and Edward."
Charlotte Smith nodded, pushed the test report back, lifted her head to look at Edward Stephens, smiled at him, but there was sadness in her eyes.
Daisy Ginger: "If you had said something sooner, Edward wouldn’t have been unable to help you. Why did you have to deceive us like this?"
"I didn’t dare." Charlotte Smith took a low breath, bowed her head and said, "Daisy Ginger, if you were in my place, would you dare to gamble?"
"..."
"I didn’t dare. But as long as he was alive, he wouldn’t give me a child. My life was already over... George is... a miracle that God gave me, I had no choice... I knew if I didn’t give birth to him, I would never have a child."
"So you placed it on Edward." Daisy Ginger looked at her coldly, "You knew he hated George because of this, yet you let him be resented by his supposed father, without telling him the truth."
"Isn’t living better than dying?"
"Do you really think Robert Stephens would kill him knowing George was his child?"
Daisy Ginger found it simply unbelievable.
"Why wouldn’t he?" Charlotte Smith said, "He has already killed once, he never intended to leave his own offspring. He only allowed me to give birth because he thought it was Edward’s child. He loved his brother so much, loved everything related to him," she let out a grim laugh, looking at Daisy Ginger, "He treated George well only because he thought he was Edward’s child."
Daisy Ginger looked at her with a wretched smile, simply speechless.
Robert Stephens treated George well because George was thought to be Edward’s child?
Then why didn’t Robert Stephens treat Erin Ginger well in the same way?
Erin Ginger was also Edward Stephens’ offspring.
Charlotte Smith lowered her head again, speaking softly, "Do you find it hard to believe? I’ve been by his side for nearly twenty years. What kind of person he truly was, probably no one knows better than me in this world."
"If he was really as cold and heartless as you say, why during his lucid interval, let you and George be by his side?"
"Who knows." Charlotte Smith’s voice was light, "Maybe it was hatred... Hatred for me defying his wishes, hatred for me giving birth to his child..."
So even after his death, he wanted the truth exposed to the world, to give his brother a smooth path, regardless of how his own flesh and blood would be treated in the future.
Without Edward Stephens’ protection, knowing George Stephens was his flesh and blood, would those who hated him transfer their hatred to George?
And she was forbidden from entering the Stephens family, she didn’t even have the ability to protect him...
Even in death, he refused to let her go.
She wanted to cry, but couldn’t help but laugh.
She lifted her head to look at Daisy Ginger, asked somewhat desperately, "Do you think I’m a fool?"
That person never cared a bit for her, yet she went through great lengths and hardships just to keep him alive.
Not knowing how the world views her, even she thought she was being unreasonable. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
Why obsess over that cruel man, when all he had done was make her life worse?
In the end, not even allowing her peace after death.
Daisy Ginger slowly withdrew her gaze, unable to bear watching her fall into such despair.
She... she only felt that Charlotte Smith was truly pitiful.
Edward Stephens extinguished the cigarette butt and stood up from his seat. Since Charlotte Smith had admitted that George was not his child, there was no need for any further conversation with this woman.
Daisy Ginger looked at the man’s dark and cold expression, and for a moment didn’t dare to speak, only tightly holding his hand. Charlotte Smith stood up as well, somewhat flustered, calling out to him, "Edward!"
