Chapter 572: Chapter 165: Safety Measures! Ian’s Birthday! (Part 2)

As for so-called tattling.

When has he ever worried about that kind of thing?

"I know you’re impressive, okay?" Lupin let out a heavy sigh, his eyes landing on Ian’s money bag. "You really don’t have any incredibly dangerous alchemy props hidden on you?"

Even though he’d already accepted reality, he still felt as if he were in a fantasy... Probably, even Albus Dumbledore at less than twelve years old didn’t have this kind of ability back then.

As one of the core members of the Phoenix Society, for Lupin to have such thoughts in his mind shows just how much the little wizard’s actions had shaken the heart of this desperate werewolf.

"What kind of ’dangerous’ are you trying to find out about? Let me see if I’ve packed anything. If you’re talking about large-scale weapons, I don’t think I have much fit for the job at the moment." Facing a "supervisor’s" "inquiry," the little wizard decided to answer honestly and tilted his head as he replied.

However.

Even though he’d already shown his sincerity and enthusiasm, it was clear this was not the answer Lupin wanted. The forehead of the down-and-out, middle-aged man was already pouring with sweat.

He felt that maybe he shouldn’t have foolishly opened his mouth and asked. If he’d kept silent, right now, his heart wouldn’t be so anxious and his brain wouldn’t be trembling this much.

"Has Hogwarts become this tolerant already..." The moment he let out this raspy comment, Lupin immediately felt his own foolishness.

See?

The little wizard’s answer immediately shut him up.

"If Hogwarts can accept werewolves studying at school, then why can’t they accept a curious student like me? And by the way, I mean no disrespect by that."

"I’m just giving an example to show how inclusive Hogwarts is—it and I get along brilliantly." Sincerity really is a killer move in certain moments.

Ian only needed one line.

And Lupin found he couldn’t worry about this matter anymore.

"It’s almost mealtime. You should go eat." He wanted to be alone for a while—not because he was hurt inside, mainly just to digest everything that had happened during the day.

"Are you planning to drink this Spirit Awakening Potion?" Ian pulled out the potion Lupin had handed to him earlier, but after a moment’s hesitation, Lupin just shook his head.

"With the Wolf Poison Potion you gave me, at least I won’t have any trouble tonight... As for some potion with an unknown origin, I don’t think it’s wise to just gulp it down."

Lupin had definitely spent a long time struggling over this in his head. In the end, when he looked away from the Spirit Awakening Potion, there was a trace of struggle in his eyes. That counts as an act of real willpower—like they say, if you’re not a hero you can’t appreciate Romance of the Three Kingdoms; if you’re not a werewolf, you can’t understand the terror of full-moon nights.

"Then I’ll study it first."

Ian felt that Lupin’s judgment made sense, too—even if nothing strange had been found in those other werewolves, who could say for sure if the Spirit Awakening Potion had long-term side effects?

There’s no such thing as a free lunch, or even a cheap lunch... That guy who pretended to be the ancestor of Gryffindor was probably using werewolves in Knockturn Alley as clinical test subjects. Anyone who dabbles in human trials knows—it’s always in Phase I or II clinical trials when things go wrong.

"I’m not in a hurry."

Lupin looked like he had something he wanted to say but stopped himself.

In fact, he was actually a bit more trusting of the other half-Prince side of things.

Of course.

Only in terms of magic potions, though.

But even that trust in potion-making had a pre-condition: so long as whatever the Prince side brewed wasn’t handed right to his mouth.

"Afraid I’ll ask my uncle to study it with me?" Ian, of course, instantly picked up on Lupin’s awkward expression. He knew quite a bit about the drama between Lupin’s little group and Snape. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

"You used Legilimency on me?"

Lupin was shocked.

Ian never thought seeing that look on someone else’s face could feel so satisfying.

"You think I need mind reading for that?"

He now understood the joy Teacher Morgan used to have, so right now he was grinning from ear to ear.

"I don’t want to stir up trouble between your family, after all, we’re in very different positions. But from my perspective, Snape isn’t exactly a trustworthy person."

In Lupin’s tone, you couldn’t hear any emotion, just him laying out his opinion of Snape. Not exactly prejudice; it’s just as he said—everyone stands in different places.

For this desperate werewolf, the deaths of his best friend and his best friend’s wife are all tied to Snape, so of course, he could never trust Snape, the former Death Eater.

"Don’t worry, the Spirit Awakening Potion also has flaws. I’m sure I can brew the perfect Wolf Poison Potion—and as for that honor... I fully intend to keep it all to myself."

Ian blinked, his expression earnest.

"..."

Lupin felt he really should be relieved by the little wizard’s sincere answer, but in reality, his current mood could only be described as complex beyond words.

"You really could be just a little... less honest." Lupin didn’t actually want to corrupt the little wizard, he just hoped that when they interacted, he might feel a little less at a loss for words.
