......

Arissa parted the kiss.

She held both sides of Nicklaus’s face and pressed her forehead to his. She giggled and caressed his face.

Gaping into his dark eyes, she questioned, "Why did you do this?" her breath fanning his face. It took everything in Nicklaus not to pull her close and kiss her lips plump.

Nicklaus did not reply immediately. He planted a soft kiss on her cheek and looked at the flower vases before replying, "Each of the flower vases has a note dangling down at a corner. Those notes have my reasons on them but first, I want you to pick the card placed before the heart-shaped roses before the others,"

"Oh," Arissa muttered in surprise. She tilted her head in the direction of the heart-shaped rose and saw a card waiting there for her.

She faces Nicklaus again and this time, her expression turns nervous. Nicklaus gave her an encouraging smile and nodded at her, "You have nothing to worry about, I’ll only want your honesty above your pride," he caressed her cheek with his thumb, "Don’t say a yes when you mean to say a no and don’t say a no when you mean to say a yes. Be honest and whatever the outcome would be, I’d make sure to support you,"

Arissa hugged him and buried her face in his arms. Nicklaus wrapped his arms around her and hugged her tight like his life depended on the hug. If fate were on his side, he would receive more of these hugs but if fate had already left him, this would be the last.

"I have a confession for you," Arissa whispered, in a solemn voice.

"Shu," Nicklaus paused her, "Let’s go through the notes first," he feared her confession would break his entire world. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

Arissa nodded thoughtfully in agreement. She parted the hug and with slow steps, she walked toward the gigantic heart-shaped flower. Two more steps to get to the note, she paused and turned to Nicklaus.

"Go on," Nicklaus cheered her on gently, "It won’t bite,"

His last words made Arissa giggle as she remembered their first meeting and when he said he didn’t bite and true to those words, he didn’t.

She smiled at him sweetly and walked towards the note card. Bending gently, she picked up the single note card in between the candles.

Slowly with a thumping heart, she opened the note, "For my loveliest wife," she read the note out to herself.

Arissa’s brows lifted and a blush covered her whole cheek. She turned to Nicklaus and mouthed, "Thank you,"

Nicklaus nodded in acceptance.

Arissa arose from the floor with the note card in her hand. She walked towards the closest vase and after walking around it, she found another note card.

Her heartbeat slowed down. With shaking hands, she untied the ribbons and opened the note.

"You can count on me in good times and bad. I’ll always be here for you - always and forever. It doesn’t matter if we split." the second note read with his name below the words.

Her heart skipped a beat and she walked over to the next vase and picked out the note card. Licking her lower lips to control her flaming emotions, she opened the card.

"You know something? That dazzling smile of yours is something I want to see every day. I want to wake up to that kind but fierce fire in your brown eyes every morning."

The third note read.

Arissa’s heart skipped three beats this time around and she faced Nicklaus stiffly. Her legs trembled but she fought hard to stand still.

The words she read in this note are too unreal to be real. Does this mean he wants to spend his days with me? Am I thinking right? She questioned herself in thought.

Arissa stared at Nicklaus without blinking and when she finally turned away, her eyes did hurt a little.

She managed to walk over to the next vase, she stretched a little and untied the more from it. Gulping softly, she mentally and emotionally prepared herself for what she would see.

Finally opening the card, she read to herself, "I want to take the kids to school, I want to wake you up with kisses until I leave this earth,"

This time, Arissa gasped and quickly let go of the note as if scalded by it. Her heart left her ribcage and she did not know how to go about with all the emotions she felt.

What was Nicklaus trying to say?

Seeing her reaction, Nicklaus took a step forward but when she bent to pick them all back with little hesitation, he paused and decided to watch her.

Arissa’s hands trembled but she managed to reach for the next card in the vase. She fought hard not to look at Nicklaus and also fought hard not to cry.

"You’re my moon. You managed to light up my world the way no one has ever done. I feel I could conquer the world with you and each time you’re near me, I feel at peace.... Because you are my peace,"

Arissa smiled, tears rolled down her eyes and she raised her face to the ceiling. She looked down at the note again and read it over and over again.

She suddenly squatted to the floor level, backed Nicklaus, and hugged the note to her heart. Her tears flowed more and in seconds, her back jolted and she began to sob.

"Arissa," Nicklaus called with worry, briskly walking towards her.

Arissa sniffed and laughed, "I’m fine, Nick. I just need to let out these tears, or else they choke me up," she told him.

Nicklaus hopelessly stopped walking and kept his distance. Arissa took the note off her chest, stared at it, and stood straight.

She realized how foolish she had been to think he wouldn’t accept her love. She would have told him, but she had been so scared, and now, he hasn’t said it but his thousand words amount to those three words.

With a smile on her face, she reached for the next note, "You feel you’re nothing more than a contracted wife and I understand why but if a contracted wife is treated in the best way possible and ultimately pampered, then yes. Whatever you feel about yourself, just know that you hold a higher ground when it comes to me," she whispered to herself and blushed the more.

She face palmed herself and blushed harder. Nicklaus enjoyed her reactions and he smiled at them.

Tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear, Arissa reached for the next note. She untied it and her heart flew away when she saw the words in it, "You may not know this but you rule my heart," it read.

Her inside trembled and her entire walls ceased to exist. She walked around the last vase and when she found the note, she opened it.

The second she opened the note, the air was knocked out of her lungs in the hardest way possible.
