Chapter 21 - The Price of Life

Shuri couldn't look away from Madam Faye's extended hand.

Was this offer something she should even contemplate?

She could prolong her life as long as she forgoes her divine ability!

The Vision of Judgement might be extremely valuable, but nothing was worth more than living a longer life with her husband and sister, right?

Without hesitating any further, Shuri reached out and shook Madam Faye's hand with a bright smile.

"Thank you, Madam Faye. Thank you for offering to save me. I'd be at your care."

Madam Faye looked at Shuri, smiling happily at her, and felt grateful that the Vision of Judgment was gifted to someone as innocent as Shuri.

If it were to be in the hands of someone malicious, the world would definitely turn disastrous.

"You don't have to be so grateful," Madam Faye replied as she released her hand.

"The Vision of Judgement is worth more than your life, so to be fair, I'd give you an add-on."

"An add-on?"

"You can consider it as a bonus boost to your life," Madam Faye explained briefly.

"So, what would you like? Super strength? Super speed? Hmm, since you're so beautiful, how about eternal beauty to maintain your youthful look forever?"

"Ah, I don't need any of those." Shuri waved her hands in front of her and smiled gently.

"I just want to live happily with my family and see my loved ones happy."

"That's a bit tricky. My add-ons don't include blessings."

Shuri wasn't expecting Madam Faye to grant her and her loved ones happiness.

However, Madam Faye seemed to be considering her words.

"Well, I'll see what I can do later. Now, let's sign the contract, shall we?" Madam Faye stated in a joyous mood as a document magically appeared on the table.

Shuri couldn't help but drop her jaw as she stared at the contract adorned with strange, sparkling gold letters that she couldn't comprehend.

She swore there wasn't any paper on the table a second ago.

Just how did Madam Faye make it appear out of thin air?

Was it magic?

"The contract is written in an ancient language that mortals can't comprehend, but you can use your Vision of Judgment to read it if you wish," Madam Faye explained, handing her a pen adorned with a beautiful silver feather.

"No need, I trust you."

She trusted her judgment.

Although she couldn't discern Madam Faye's true nature, Shuri was convinced that Madam Faye was a fair and just person.

She believed that Madam Faye would never harm her or create a one-sided contract.

Shuri took the pen and signed the contract without hesitation.

Then, she observed as the piece of paper shimmered in golden light before vanishing once the deal was sealed.

Strangely, the golden light seemed to her like a glimmer of hope.

She smiled quietly and glanced at the medical tea before her, the one that Madam Faye had offered just moments ago.

Unlike her previous hesitation, she quickly drank the medicine without a second thought.

As the liquid flowed down her throat, it seemed to work like magic.

Almost instantly, Shuri felt a wave of relief wash over her.

The heaviness in her head lifted, her complexion brightened, and the weakness that had plagued her began to fade away.

It was as if the tea had the power to erase all her painful symptoms, leaving her feeling rejuvenated and refreshed.

A warm smile graced her lips, as she hadn't felt this good in a long time.

Madam Faye looked rather satisfied as well.

"Your condition is quite complex. While you may possess the Vision of Judgment, a mortal body simply can't endure bearing a divine ability, which is why your health is declining," explained Madam Faye.

"In your current state, even attempting to use its full potential could lead to instant death."

It's full potential?

Death?

Shuri was rather startled.

Despite being born with her divine ability, she didn't know much about it.

Observing her look lost and bewildered, Madam Faye added, "What you've been utilizing is just its pre-stage. The Vision of Judgment can evolve and pose a significant threat to both you and those you pass judgment on.

So, to avoid harming yourself, I would suggest you stop utilizing your ability until I develop the cure for you."

As Shuri had anticipated, her declining health stemmed from her divine ability.

If that was indeed the case, it would be better to give it away.

"I understand. How long would you need to develop the cure."

"One week," Madam Faye replied as she handed over a small golden plate to Shuri.

"Simply read the ancient inscription on the plate, and it will transport you to me, no matter where you are."

Shuri glanced down at the small golden plate in her hand.

It lacked any elaborate designs or symbols, except for a single line of ancient lettering etched along its edge.

The letters seemed to faintly shimmer as if imbued with a subtle energy hinting at their ancient origin.

Despite their simplicity, the words held an air of mystery and exclusivity, as if they were meant only for those initiated into some ancient knowledge.

Shuri was still engrossed in studying the plate as she traced her fingers over the smooth surface.

Lost in concentration, she failed to notice any changes in her surroundings.

It was only when she finally looked up that she was taken aback to find herself back in her hotel room.

Confusion swept over her.

Hadn't she been in Madam Faye's clinic just a moment ago?

Why was she back in her hotel room?

As Shuri attempted to understand what was happening, her phone started ringing nonstop, preventing her from fully comprehending the situation.

Shuri realized she hadn't received any notifications while at Madam Faye's clinic—likely because it existed in another realm of the world, devoid of reception.

As she glanced at her phone, it continued to ring incessantly while displaying multiple missed calls from Noran and Karlene.

It appeared they had been trying to reach her for a while, as evidenced by the string of missed calls on her screen.

Sensing something urgent must have happened on their end, Shuri didn't hesitate to answer the call.

"Rin, Sis!"

Two voices calling urgently out to her were heard at the other end of the line at the same time.

"Ran? Lene? What's wrong?" Shuri asked, sensing the urgency in their voices.

They sounded like they were about to cry.

"We've been trying to reach you for a whole day! We couldn't track you or get in touch! I was so worried something terrible had happened to you!" Karlene exclaimed in tears.

Wait, a whole day?

Shuri was confused.

Did a whole day just pass?

"And why didn't you tell us about your illness? You could have kept it from others, but how could you not tell me?!"Karlene continued to say whatever she liked without giving any chance for Noran to speak.

Because Karlene had insisted, Noran had put his phone on speaker mode, and now he was regretting it.

Upon finding out from the hospital that his wife had a critical illness, he was overwhelmed with anxiety and worries.

The thought of losing Shuri was unbearable to him.

He had to reach out to her and find her immediately, but no matter how he tried to contact her, she remained unreachable.

Before he could book a flight to Fushin, he needed to know Shuri's exact location.

He had no choice but to break the news to Karlene and ask for her help.

However, even with Karlene's tracker, they couldn't find Shuri.

His body trembled uncontrollably when he thought of the worst-case scenario of Shuri dying without him knowing where she was.

He'd probably have gone crazy if Karlene hadn't repeatedly told him to keep calm despite not being that calm herself as she hadn't stopped crying when she learned about Shuri's illness.

They even resorted to asking Roy for help, something both of them had never done before.

However, even with Roy's rich resources, they still couldn't find Shuri, and when all of them were on their wits end, Shuri finally picked up the call.

Noran had never felt more relief in his life to finally hear Shuri's voice, but he was feeling exasperated now because Karlene hadn't given him a chance to speak to his wife.

Since Karlene had been bombarding Shuri with questions and pouring out her grief, Shuri had remained silent at the other end of the line.

"Can you be quiet for a second so Rin can speak?" Noran finally had enough and told Karlene off.

"Shut up, No.2! Do you think you're better than me? You didn't know about my sis' illness either!" Karlene retorted and was about to start an argument with Noran when Shuri broke her silence.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to keep this from you..." Shuri muttered softly, "I just didn't want both of you to worry, sorry..."

Noran and Karlene instantly stopped fighting upon hearing Shuri's soft-spoken apology.

"Sis! Don't—"

Noran quickly interrupted Karlene by switching off the speaker mode and bringing the phone to his ear. "It's alright, Rin. Everything is going to be alright. I will get you the best treatment... I won't let you die. Please, let us face this together, alright?" ƒreewebɳovel.com

Noran mistakenly thought that Shuri had fled to Fushin to face the illness on her own.

He ignored Karlene pestering him to give her the phone as he anxiously awaited Shuri's response.

He hoped she would allow him to stay by her side in her most difficult time.

Even if she were to reject him, he had many ways to persuade her and was prepared to use all his resources to save her.

Noran braced himself for her rejection.

However, instead of hearing her refusal, all he heard were her quiet sobs.
