Chapter 174: Make Every Minute Count

** Harper **

The gentle, slow-building heat of last night was still fresh on Harper’s mind. But at this moment, with wild sensations crashing over her wave after wave, so much more intense and so much more untamed that she could barely believe her body capable of feeling it, all her memories and limits to her imagination were renewed.

And people say that third time’s a charm ... As the two of them collapsed into each other’s arms, shuddering and panting madly from the powerful surge of euphoria overtaking their bodies, Harper wondered how such a saying could possibly be right. If the second time was already redefining what she thought of as the ultimate height of passion ... then what would the third time be like? Could such insane pleasure really exist in this world?

The thought put an expectant smile on her face.

Apparently, Eli felt that smile with her face tucked right against him. The sound of his own heavy exhales turned into a breathless chuckle into her ear. "Should I take that as a sign of approval?" he asked. His voice was an incredibly delicious husk, made all the more sexy by the tiny residual tremors lending it a sinful timber.

Harper replied with a contented sigh, scraping her nails down his spine and making him shudder all over again. "A hundred and twenty percent approval," she declared, breathing into his neck and reveling in the intoxicating note of his musky scent mixed with a tinge of sweat. "So much so that I want to repeat it as soon as we get back to our own apartments ... and bless every piece of our furniture exactly the same way."

He laughed at that. "I would love nothing more." Then he gave her a squeeze on the waist with his hands still clutching hard onto her. "Though why are you talking as if we’re done here already? The night is still young ... and I fully plan to finish blessing every piece of furniture in this suite first, before we start thinking about moving on to our own apartments when we get back."

Right. She had forgotten that this man would never lose a challenge when it comes to wicked promises.

Harper was all game. With their bodies still tangled together, she squeezed her legs, tightening herself like a candy wrapper all around the man of wicked promises. "Then why don’t we get going on that task already?" she cooed as he visibly jolted to regather his senses from that move. "Let’s see ... The dining table next, or the window sill? Or, alternatively, I liked the courtyard quite a lot too ..."

She trailed off with a giggle when she felt the telltale twitch in that familiar place.

"And we’ll make sure to top it all with a shower," Eli added in a rasp. One of his hands finally let go of her, reaching behind him into the pocket of his pants.

Though the next moment, he stilled with a muffled curse under his breath.

Harper had known him enough by now to understand what that curse meant this time. One of her eyebrows arched up. "You kept only one condom in your pocket?" She tsked teasingly. "I thought I promised to make today’s wait worth it ... Were you seriously expecting that to mean one single round?"

The muffled curse turned into a low hiss. "You didn’t warn me that you are such an accomplished seductress." He nibbled her lips and practically growled. "But no worries, I’ve learned how to handle you now, and you’ll see it soon enough."

Ah. She liked the sound of that.

Harper chewed her lips and grinned at the prospect of a very busy evening schedule. As Eli pulled away with a suggestive smirk, turning to the bathroom for the towel and other things he had forgotten in there, her gaze followed him greedily. Her imagination was already flowing with all sorts of scenes they could add to this innocently tidy room.

She was scanning her surroundings, contemplating the oversized swivel chair next to the sofa, when she caught a small blink of light coming from the corner of her vision.

It was Eli’s phone — they had both learned their lessons now to remember to leave their phones in silent — and it was lighting up with a steady stream of text messages.

[ Justin: Bad news. ]

... Uh oh. Were bad interruptions always a must for their otherwise perfect evenings?

Harper didn’t mean to peek, but the words hopping into her view stole her attention immediately, and it was hard to keep her eyes away from the flashing pop-ups:

[ Justin: (Hope I didn’t interrupt anything important with that) ]

[ Justin: Anyway, it’s the Saturday cruise. We got canceled for bad weather forecast. ]

Harper was still eyeing the notifications curiously when Eli already made his quick return from the bathroom. He halted in his tracks the moment he saw the phone screen flashing right in her line of sight.

"... Not Tyler again?" he asked uncertainly.

That made Harper chuckle. "Thank goodness no." She passed him his phone with a slightly sheepish smile. "Sorry, didn’t mean to read it, but the ’bad news’ alert just caught the eye too easily—"

She paused, suddenly distracted from her distractions when her eyes focused properly on the guy in front of her. Because damn, he had apparently decided to shed his clothes for good while he was in the bathroom, and as her gaze swept to that particular part of his lower body ...

She caught herself, realizing belatedly that she was once again staring. This embarrassing habit of hers had been resurfacing a bit too frequently these days ... It must be her lucky day that Eli was too busy scrolling through his missed messages to notice that stare and tease her for it.

And those messages must be bad news indeed, because instead of teasing her, he furrowed his brow. "That’s ... not convenient," he grumbled when he reached the end of the texts.

"The Saturday cruise being canceled?" Harper offered, trying her best to hide her still lingering gaze. "Ah, I thought that’s not really a big deal ... We’ll get more time to ourselves that way, won’t we? Actually a better alternative compared to a weekend trip away, if you ask me."

Eli gave her a long look. "I certainly wouldn’t mind getting locked in here with you for two whole days, Harper." One side of his lips curved up devilishly. "But unfortunately, you might be disappointed to hear that the cruise company has already rescheduled us on a different trip. For a different island hopping option. It’s a longer tour, two days instead of one, which means that I’ll get to see you less over the weekend on a crowded ship ... not more."

... Oh. Oops. Bad news indeed.

For a moment, Harper lamented over the lack of opportunities for a romantic two-person-only weekend. But she didn’t let the thought affect her mood for longer than that. When Eli set his phone back down on the table, she hopped down from the kitchen counter with a wink. "Then it’s all the more reason to make better use of tonight," she cooed and did a little spin in front of him, still in a state of half undress. "Let’s make every minute count while we have it, shall we? What’s your pick for our next scene set?"
