Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Move Again and You Won’t Sleep Tonight

Stella’s eyes were filled with mockery, but Kiana Sutton ignored her and started the car after the light changed.

Stella scoffed lightly and turned to Ethan Sinclair, "Brother Ethan, Kiana Sutton riding such a shabby thing to work is clearly a slap in your face."

Thinking of something, Stella gasped, "No, she’s doing it on purpose. If the old lady finds out she’s riding a scooter to work, she’ll think you’re bullying her. This damn woman, I didn’t think she was so manipulative."

As she spoke, Stella saw Kiana Sutton again and leaned against the window shouting, "Kiana Sutton, you’d better get soaked to the skin by the rain!"

Soon after Stella yelled, there was a traffic accident ahead, causing a jam.

Meanwhile, Kiana Sutton easily weaved through the vehicles on her small scooter, leaving a striking silhouette.

Kiana Sutton had just gotten home when it started pouring rain.

Stella and Ethan Sinclair were stuck under the overpass, getting drenched by the downpour.

Ethan Sinclair hadn’t been home in a long time, and Kiana Sutton didn’t expect him to come back.

Sitting in Ethan Sinclair’s car, Stella figured they would certainly visit Kate Lynch, and Ethan would probably spend the whole night with her.

After finishing her work, Kiana Sutton went to bed.

In the middle of the night, half-asleep, an arm suddenly pulled her into an embrace.

Smelling alcohol, Kiana Sutton woke up with a start and instinctively reached to turn on the light, but Ethan’s chilling and threatening voice suddenly spoke, "Move again, and you won’t sleep at all tonight!"

Recalling the torment Ethan put her through in the office during the day, Kiana Sutton didn’t dare move.

Before long, Ethan seemed to fall asleep, but Kiana Sutton lay there, wide awake.

Why... did he come to her room? And why was he holding her while sleeping?

The next morning, Kiana Sutton got up with panda eyes, feeling quite depressed.

For once, Ethan Sinclair had breakfast with Kiana, and Chelsea Chapman prepared both Western and Chinese dishes.

Not daring to disturb Ethan, Kiana behaved as obediently as possible during breakfast.

Ethan gave her a cold glance and, seeing that she didn’t act as attentive as before, he frowned slightly.

After the meal, they headed out together, and Ethan gave Connor Grant a look. Understanding, Connor smiled at Kiana, who was putting on her helmet, "Madam, come into the car. It’s on the way, and you can get a ride."

Kiana eyed Connor warily.

Connor wouldn’t dare let her into the car without Ethan’s nod.

And Ethan used to hate her getting too close, so why the sudden offer for a ride?

Something was off.

Oh!

Yesterday, she wrote ’Ethan Sinclair is a jerk’ on a piece of paper, Ethan must have seen it.

Even though he didn’t confront her last night, that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t today.

Thinking of this, Kiana quickly fastened her helmet and shook her head smiling, "No need, thanks. Riding myself is more convenient, no traffic."

"The weather’s so hot..."

"The natural breeze is refreshing."

Before Connor could say more, Kiana was already on her scooter and rode away.

Connor, failing his task, didn’t dare look at Ethan’s face.

As expected, Ethan’s expression was quite displeased.

Kiana used to cling to him so tightly; why the sudden compliance?

Is she playing hard to get?

Or did he hurt her yesterday in the office?

Ha... Whatever her reason, what’s it to him?

Kiana arrived at the planning department just on time, and sure enough, there was Winter Sheridan anxiously waiting at the door.

"Oh, why are you so slow! Where’s the proposal? Is it done?"

Kiana casually walked to her workstation and pulled out a folder.

Winter snatched it, quickly opened it, and seeing it was complete, she patted Kiana on the shoulder smilingly, "Good job, keep up the good work."

The meeting time approached, and Winter, proposal in hand, headed to the conference room without even checking it.

As Kiana watched Winter’s smug retreating figure, she faintly curled her lips.

An hour later, Winter stormed over to Kiana’s desk, "Kiana Sutton, come with me."

Without uttering a word, Kiana followed Winter to a corner.

Winter raised her hand to slap Kiana, but Kiana, seemingly anticipating it, caught her hand.

Angry, Winter shook off Kiana’s hand, surprised at her resistance.

"How dare you, Kiana Sutton, you messed up the proposal I tasked you with and got me scolded by President Sinclair!"

Smiling, Kiana looked at Winter, her eyes brimming with disdain, as if to say Winter deserved it.

Realizing, Winter pointed at Kiana incredulously, "You... did it on purpose?"

Kiana continued smiling.

"Ah..."

With a devastated scream, Winter lunged at Kiana.

Their commotion drew quite a crowd.

The situation became so chaotic that Manager Harold Young couldn’t remain unaware.

Soon, Kiana and Winter were summoned to Harold Young’s office. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

"What’s going on between you two? Don’t you know co-workers should help each other out instead of fighting? If President Sinclair finds out, no one’s getting off easy."

Winter immediately started crying, "Manager Young, I was so busy yesterday, I had no time to check the draft, so I asked Kiana to help. I didn’t expect her to alter my draft, and I got scolded by President Sinclair."

Kiana finally witnessed what it meant to distort the truth.

She handed what she’d written to Harold Young.

It read, "Winter Sheridan is a workplace bully, dumping her work on me every day. That proposal? Not a single word from her; I did it all."

Winter saw the words on the paper as well.

"She’s lying! That proposal was so important, how could I leave it to a newcomer? I..."

Winter was about to continue when Harold Young interrupted, "Enough, enough! I’ve got a rough idea of what happened. Winter Sheridan, you need to be thorough with your work. You knew the proposal was important, yet had someone else check it. That’s on you."

Winter still wanted to speak but was silenced by a look from Harold Young.

Then Harold looked at Kiana, "And you, Kiana Sutton, calling minor conflicts workplace bullying, that’s too serious."

Frowning, Kiana was about to write again when Harold, showing impatience, said, "Let’s leave this matter here. Work hard from now on and serve Evercrest Group well. You can both go."

Kiana didn’t expect such a big issue to be resolved by Harold Young in a couple of sentences.

Clearly, Harold was biased in favor of Winter.

Seeing Winter and Harold’s exchanged glances, Kiana finally understood what Amy Manning meant by "backing."

Sneering, Winter left the office triumphantly.

Kiana, knowing further words were pointless, left the office as well.

As soon as she stepped out, she saw Winter at the door. Winter crossed her arms and looked at her disdainfully, "Kiana Sutton, trying to mess with me? You’re too green! And now, you’ve angered me. Don’t expect easy times in the planning department."
