His Mute Wife: He Can't Sleep After She Left-Chapter 197: I Never Expected You Had Such Thoughts
Kiana Sutton eventually knitted a scarf and gloves for Ethan Sinclair, though Ethan verbally dismissed them, he didn’t throw them away, yet never seemed to wear them either.
Kiana’s comic was published in a physical edition, with excellent sales and merchandise, and her editor called her to arrange a spot at a fan signing event in S-City during the National Day holiday.
Any creation needs fans, and if Kiana wants to go far on her comic journey, these are unavoidable.
But Kiana is different from others, she can’t speak, making communication a bit troublesome.
The editor said it was not a problem, and since the editor was so enthusiastic, Kiana found it hard to refuse. Besides, her dream is to create more comic works, so after some thought, she agreed.
In the evening, Kiana went to the study to tell Ethan Sinclair about it.
Ethan knew Kiana was drawing comics, but he didn’t expect her to achieve such recognition.
"Is your pen name Sonnet?"
Kiana nodded.
"Why did you choose this name?"
Kiana’s expression changed slightly but she didn’t speak.
She had intended to keep her identity concealed, after all, the comic she drew was about a docile man obediently following his wife’s every wish. She wasn’t sure what Ethan would think after seeing that.
But by asking Ethan to agree to her attending the signing event, her identity would surely be exposed. It was better to say it herself.
Besides, Ethan was so busy that he surely didn’t have time to look at her comic works.
Totally unexpectedly, not only did Ethan see it, but he also read aloud the name of the work.
"Call Me Queen..."
Ethan glanced at Kiana with a half-smile, "I didn’t expect you to hold such thoughts."
Kiana’s face instantly turned deep red; wasn’t he always uninterested in her matters? Why did he suddenly read her work?
Thinking about the content she drew, Kiana was instantly overwhelmed with shame, wishing she could just poke Ethan’s eyes blind.
Frantically, she gestured to explain, "It’s all fictional."
"Even if fictional, it’s something from your mind."
Kiana: "..."
At that moment, a call came to Ethan’s phone; as he answered it, he waved his hand to Kiana, indicating for her to leave.
Ethan did not refuse, meaning he agreed.
Kiana joyfully went off to prepare.
Ethan had been busy for several days. When he realized he hadn’t seen Kiana return home, he heard from Chelsea Chapman that Kiana had gone to S-City.
Ethan frowned; that woman went to S-City without telling him.
Kiana had intended to message Ethan, but seeing how overwhelmingly busy he was, she chose not to disturb him.
Besides, she would only be gone for two or three days. Likely by the time she returned, Ethan still wouldn’t be home!
The editor, Selene, was a short-haired, slightly chubby girl, with a warm demeanor and an endearing smile.
She had organized all the notes before Kiana arrived and had even booked a hotel for her in advance.
When they met, Kiana would type her words on her phone to communicate.
Though communication was slow, she wasn’t impatient at all, and the two of them had a delightful conversation.
Selene even took Kiana around to get familiar with the venue, where Kiana saw her signing exhibition stand.
The stand was lined with life-size cutouts of the main characters, impeccably made and beautiful, evident that the organizers were very thoughtful.
Kiana was both excited and happy, so much that she lost sleep until dawn.
There’s nothing more joyous than seeing your dreams come true step by step.
The next morning,
After having breakfast at the hotel, Kiana went to the signing event.
Originally, she was quite nervous, worried there wouldn’t be many fans, leading to awkwardness.
Seeing the long queue in front of her stand, she finally breathed a heavy sigh of relief.
To prevent unnecessary trouble, Kiana didn’t plan to show her face and wore a mask when she attended.
"Sonnet, I liked you since your illustration days, and after your works were published, I liked you even more."
"Same here, Sonnet, I love the characters you draw and the stories you create. ’Call Me Queen’ will definitely become a worldwide hit."
"Keep it up, we will always be your most loyal support."
Kiana was deeply moved, but as she couldn’t speak, she could only smile and nod.
Selene, who had been alongside Kiana, smiled and explained to everyone, "Thank you all for loving Sonnet, she truly appreciates it, but... she can’t speak, we hope for your understanding."
Upon hearing this, everyone was initially stunned, then grew even more fond and sympathetic towards her.
Kiana didn’t expect Selene would mention her muteness, hoping others would like her because of her works, not out of pity.
But what’s said is said; there’s nothing major about it.
"Wow... That guy’s got a great physique! He likes romance comics too?"
"Maybe he’s getting a signature for his sister or girlfriend."
"Or perhaps he has a little princess living in his heart."
A sudden commotion erupted from behind, but Kiana was so occupied with signing that she didn’t have the chance to look.
After a long while, a tall shadow suddenly stood before her.
Instinctively, Kiana looked up and locked eyes with a man, his dark, deep gaze causing her heart to flutter inexplicably.
The man wore a mask and a hat, revealing nothing but those eyes.
At the moment their eyes met, an unpleasant memory surged, quickly followed by his warm, pleasant voice.
"Hello, my sister really loves your comics, but she’s got extra classes today, so she couldn’t come. Could you please sign an autograph for her?"
Kiana shook her head; no, this person was definitely not him.
The voice was different, the aura was different; she must have been overthinking it.
Besides, he didn’t have any sister.
Seeing Kiana in a daze, Selene gently nudged her, "Sonnet, are you okay?"
Kiana snapped back and signed her name on the comic handed over by the man.
Then, the man extended his hand, "My sister insisted that I must shake your hand, so she can hold mine when I return. Could you please fulfill her small wish?"
The man was polite and courteous, and Kiana had no reason to refuse.
She reached out her hand towards him, and the man clasped her hand.
So cold!
When their hands touched, only these words flashed in Kiana’s mind.
Like it had just emerged from an icehouse.
Just as she was about to withdraw her hand, the man released it and smiled at her, "Thank you, and I hope you create more exceptional works."
The man quickly left, and Kiana watched his departing silhouette, but for some reason, a sense of unease lingered.
In a secluded corner, Shane Lawson’s dark eyes remained fixed on his hand, then he removed his mask and inhaled deeply, greedily savoring the unique fragrance of Kiana from his fingertips.
Her hands were still as soft and warm, her scent as sweet and delightful as always.
Not enough!
Just touching hands wasn’t enough!
He wished to hug her tightly, to posses her, to have her entirely to himself!
