His Mute Wife: He Can't Sleep After She Left-Chapter 166: Can I Wait Until the Day You No Longer Love Ethan Sinclair?
In the private room.
Miles Goodman looked at Kiana Sutton, who was devastated and crying silently, and felt absolutely terrible inside.
He picked up a tissue, wanting to wipe Kiana’s tears, but she took the tissue from his hand and gestured a "thank you" in sign language.
Seeing how distant and polite she was with him, Miles suddenly grabbed Kiana by the shoulders.
His delicate, handsome face was full of unwillingness and anguish. "Kiana, you saw it just now—Ethan Sinclair doesn’t care about you at all. Why are you still staying by his side? Come with me, will you? I’ll make you happy, I’ll never let you shed a single tear."
There are so many things, even if others don’t speak them out loud, Kiana still understands.
But understanding is one thing; being able to do it is another.
Under Miles’s stunned gaze, Kiana wiped away her tears and gently pushed him away.
"Thank you for your love and affection, but I’m sorry, I can’t go with you."
"Why? Do you really want to live in this pain for a lifetime?"
Kiana shook her head, sadly gesturing, "A lifetime is too long. I don’t know what life will bring, so I just want to seize the day. I’m sorry, I can’t return your feelings. Please, don’t love me anymore."
Kiana was so gentle and kind even when she was rejecting someone. Miles’s eyes turned red—he was unwilling but didn’t know what else to do.
Why?
Why did Ethan Sinclair meet her first!
Why wasn’t it him who met her first!
"Kiana, if—just if—you had met me first, would you have fallen for me first?"
Kiana let out a soft sigh. "There are no ’what ifs’ in this world, and I can’t give you an answer to that."
Miles was hurt badly—he never imagined Kiana wouldn’t even try to comfort him with a lie.
But he still refused to give up and anxiously asked, "Then what about the future? Can I wait for the day you stop loving Ethan? Wait for the day you love me?"
Kiana didn’t understand why Miles was so persistent, but in this life, just loving Ethan Sinclair had already left her bruised and battered.
Besides, since the future is uncertain, she couldn’t predict what would happen—she didn’t know what was ahead.
But one thing she was sure of—even if she and Ethan ever divorced one day, she would never be with Miles Goodman.
By then, she’d probably be broken beyond repair. If she got together with Miles out of gratitude or just to find a safe harbor, that would be too unfair to him.
"I’m sorry, there’s... no possibility between us."
Miles couldn’t hold back his tears anymore—they spilled out uncontrollably.
His first crush, first confession, first time wanting to give someone all the best in himself—only to end up rejected so utterly.
She didn’t even leave him a sliver of hope or fantasy. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Kiana was gentle and kind to everyone, yet to him, she was this cruel.
Seeing Miles crying made Kiana feel terrible as well. She didn’t dare look at his wounded, bloodshot eyes, lowered her head, and painfully signed, "I’m sorry, I’m really sorry..."
"Don’t..."
Miles’s heart hurt so much, it felt like he was dying, but he hurt even more for Kiana.
"I was the one who liked you first; you just don’t like me back—you don’t have to apologize."
Love is just that unreasonable.
Kiana loved Ethan so much, but couldn’t get Ethan’s love.
Miles liked Kiana so much, but was rejected by Kiana.
If love really always went the way people wanted, there wouldn’t be so many lovesick men and women in the world.
Not wanting to put too much pressure on Kiana, Miles let out a short laugh, "It’s fine, I’m really not that heartbroken—just embarrassed, you know, first time confessing and getting rejected."
Kiana didn’t know how to comfort Miles; instead, it was Miles who seemed to suddenly let go, reaching out to pat Kiana’s head. "So from now on, can we still be friends?"
If it were before, Kiana would never be friends with someone who’d confessed to her—first, she didn’t see the need, and second, it would just be awkward for both sides.
But Miles was the one who’d saved her life, helped her again and again, and with the Goodmans and the Sinclair Family on such good terms, there was no way she could just sever ties with Miles and act like strangers forever.
She could only hope that Miles really could let everything go and go find his own happiness again.
Seeing Kiana nod, Miles finally breathed a little easier, though he was still deeply hurt inside.
He clenched his fists tightly, suppressing his reluctance and pretending to be lighthearted. "Alright, the three minutes must be up by now, so... I’ll go first."
Without waiting for Kiana’s reply, Miles turned and walked a few steps toward the door.
Then, he stopped abruptly, spun around, rushed back, and hugged Kiana hard.
He didn’t know why he did it—he just really wanted to hold her.
Maybe it was to mourn a love that ended before it even began.
Or maybe, a hug to show how much he cared and wished her happiness.
Or just to indulge his own selfishness, perhaps.
Anyway, he felt that if he didn’t hug her now, he might never get a chance again—and he’d definitely regret it.
The hug didn’t last long—maybe not even three seconds—because just as Kiana realized what was happening, Miles had already let go and rushed out of the private room.
Outside at this moment, Quinn Sinclair watched the seconds tick away, feeling like an ant on a hot pan—utterly restless.
She hoped the three minutes would pass faster so she could know Kiana’s choice—the final outcome.
But she was also afraid of finding out—her feelings were just that complicated.
And even though Ethan Sinclair was looking out the window the whole time, Quinn sensed that he was just as agitated inside.
In just those three minutes, her cousin—who never panicked even in the worst emergencies—had already smoked three cigarettes in a row.
The door suddenly opened, making Quinn tense up. Seeing Miles walk out alone, she instinctively glanced behind him.
Kiana didn’t come out with Miles Goodman.
Quinn let out a heavy sigh of relief. Selfishly, she still hoped Kiana wouldn’t leave Ethan.
Noticing how terrible Miles looked, Quinn was still worried. "Miles..."
Miles shot Ethan a cold look—his eyes rimmed red, his gaze fierce. "Ethan Sinclair, you’d better cherish Kiana. If I ever see her hurt because of you again, I swear I won’t let it slide! You won this time, but I didn’t lose to you; I lost to Kiana’s love for you."
Ethan raised his brows slightly. "Since you know she loves me, you shouldn’t have made a fool of yourself trying to take her away."
"Then you’d better love her well, and don’t give me a chance to swoop in."
After saying this, Miles left. Quinn saw Ethan’s mood clearly improve and immediately started to flatter him, "Bro, see, your wife loves you most after all—you better not let her down!"
Meeting Ethan’s icy gaze, Quinn pouted, "I really know I was wrong. I’ll never do it again! I swear I’ll sail the Bro-and-sis-CP ship till the end—if anyone tries to steal your wife from now on, I’ll be the first to beat them up!"
