His Mute Wife: He Can't Sleep After She Left-Chapter 152: No One’s Begging You to Stay
Kiana Sutton had no idea how she made it home.
Her mind was filled with images of Ethan Sinclair and Kate Lynch dining together, and the photo of Kate gently putting a bracelet on her wrist.
Couple’s bracelets, just as she thought!
"You still know to come home?"
Kiana stumbled through the door, still in a daze. She’d just changed her shoes when Ethan’s cold, distant voice rang out.
Instinctively, she glanced over—Ethan was lounging lazily on the sofa, dressed down in slacks and a button-up, absorbed in paperwork.
But the red bracelet on his wrist was glaringly obvious.
Kiana drew in a deep breath, crushing the pain in her chest. She didn’t look at Ethan again, just walked toward her room, step after step.
Ethan hadn’t expected to be so completely ignored. His handsome face dropped, becoming frosty. "Stop right there!"
Kiana froze but didn’t look at him.
"What’s up? Get promoted and suddenly think you’re too good for me? Not even putting me in your eyes now?"
Ethan was being deliberately confrontational. Kiana turned to look at him, gesturing: "What do you want?"
Ethan suddenly felt irritated. He’d neglected her for days, thinking she’d be excited to see him tonight. But she was this cold?
"Come here!"
Seeing Ethan’s bad mood, Kiana didn’t want late-night drama. She walked over to him.
She was worn out, exhausted in every way; all she hoped was for Ethan to say what he had to say so she could rest early.
Just as she reached the sofa, Ethan pushed her down forcefully and grabbed her chin, lips curved in a chilling sneer. "You got rid of Rosalind Joyce, snagged Vice President at Albatross Foundation, and I haven’t even congratulated you yet."
Kiana pressed her lips together, suddenly recalling the words of the old lady.
If you want something, fight for it—don’t leave regrets behind.
Thinking of this, she reached out and looped her arms around Ethan’s neck, flashing a soft smile.
Ethan seemed taken aback for a moment. She let go, slowly gesturing, "So how do you want to congratulate me?"
Kiana’s face was pale, but when she smiled her eyes curved beautifully; she looked stunning.
Ethan cursed under his breath, never expecting to be so tempted by Kiana.
Abruptly, he shoved her away and tossed a delicate box at her. "This is for you."
Kiana was startled—hadn’t he just called her manipulative? Why would he suddenly have a gift for her?
A heat flared in her chest; she opened the box with care.
But the moment she saw the red bracelet inside, her expression changed drastically, pain shooting through her chest.
Ha...
He gave Kate Lynch a red bracelet, they became a trending topic for their couple’s jewelry, and now he was giving her a red bracelet too—what the hell was this supposed to mean?
Trying to humiliate her?
Ethan didn’t see the happy, surprised look he expected when Kiana got the gift.
Instead, he saw her crushed, devastated.
What the hell did that mean?
She didn’t like the gift?
"You..."
Ethan was about to speak when Kiana shoved the box back at him and stood up abruptly.
He stared at the rejected gift; his face went dark. He looked at Kiana, voice cold and edged with fury. "You don’t want something I gave you?"
Kiana clenched her fists tightly and, holding back her ache, gestured, "It’s too expensive for me—President Sinclair should give it to someone else!"
Done gesturing, Kiana turned to head upstairs—then the box suddenly slammed into the wall in front of her, crashing to the floor.
The box hit hard, splintering apart; the red bracelet lay abandoned and alone on the ground.
"I told you, I never take back gifts I’ve given. Kiana Sutton—from now on, if I ever give you anything else, I’ll be a dog!"
Ethan stormed out, slamming the door so hard it echoed through the house.
Kiana’s body involuntarily trembled at the bang of the door.
Chelsea Chapman waited until Ethan had left before coming out, spotting Kiana looking fragile, like she could collapse at any moment. Chelsea rushed over to support her. "Young Madam, are you okay?"
Kiana shook her head, gently pried Chelsea’s hands away, then went over, crouched down, and picked up the red bracelet.
If Ethan had only ever given her that red bracelet, she’d have treasured it like a precious gem.
But he gave one to Kate Lynch first, and only after a few days gave one to her; what did that even mean?
Even so, she couldn’t bear to throw it away.
She held the bracelet tight as tears dripped, one after another.
After a sleepless night, the next morning Kiana looked weary and pale.
Ethan hadn’t come home since the previous night—who knew where he was staying?
After several days off, Kiana returned to work and cleaned every inch of her own desk.
She was just about to head to clean Ethan’s office when Ethan arrived.
Kiana immediately stood, head down.
Ethan walked past without as much as a glance at her; instead, he turned to Nathan Lawson and said coolly, "Secretary Lawson, come to my office."
No one knew what those two were working on, but Nathan was in there over two hours and still hadn’t come out.
Kiana was just considering whether to make coffee for them when an unexpected visitor appeared on the eighteenth floor.
Kate Lynch was wearing the latest Chanel goose-yellow dress, looking every bit like a doll.
"Kiana, is Ian in his office?"
Seeing Kate Lynch, Kiana’s already sour mood sank even further.
She nodded and wrote on paper, "President Sinclair and Secretary Lawson are busy."
"Oh? Then I’ll go in when they’re done."
Kiana wrote again, "You can wait for President Sinclair in the guest lounge."
"No need. Ian knows I’m coming; he’ll find me when he’s done."
Kate kept calling him ’Ian’, so intimately—Kiana bit her inner lip, frustrated.
Especially when she saw that red bracelet—it stung her heart even more.
"Oh, right. I haven’t congratulated you on becoming Albatross Foundation vice president yet. You’ll have to look after me from now on."
Kiana hadn’t even started to gesture when the president’s office door suddenly opened—Ethan and Nathan came out one after another.
"Miss Lynch..."
Nathan greeted Kate Lynch with a nod.
Kate smiled and nodded back, "Hello, Secretary Lawson."
Just then, Ethan’s icy voice cut through, "Assistant Sutton, Kate is my guest. She came for me, and you let her stand here without offering water—that’s how you treat visitors?"
Kiana hadn’t even had time to explain before he snapped, "If you don’t want to work here, then get out of Evercrest early. No one’s begging you to stay."
